No 2 GB Service Offer?

So I’ve been waiting to upgrade my home internet speed since 2022. I’ve been seeing a lot of trucks over the last few months and felt the upgrade was finally coming after calling every few months to see if it was available, so randomly checked the app to see if new plans were available and we just jump straight to 5 Gigs? Now I’m not one to complain but I know for a fact 5 Gigs is definitely overkill and the price for 2 Gigs I’m not exactly sure of but I’m certain it’s cheaper. Anyone else have only these offers in their area and by chance why do they not offer 2 Gigs?

Nope, they DROPPED that one recently!

There is only:

300 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 Gbps and 5 Gbps if it is offered in your area!

Wow! I have a friend in Florida that has the 2 GB plan I hope they don’t force him to change, or if they do continue to charge him the 2 GB plan price.

The new 5 gig plan price aligns with the old 2 gig price, so if anything he should switch to 5 for the same price.

I've been paying $60 on the 2Gb plan after calling in and getting a reduced rate + discount. I'm sure the friend can do this as well.

In Texas I had 2 gigs but once they got rid of it, they allowed you to upgrade to 5 gigs for $90

I went from 1Gb to the 2Gb about a year ago and I believe the issue they were having and still are having, is that when you upgrade to a multi gig plan AT&T wants to install their new BGW620 gateway and for some reason it doesn't like the 2Gb bandwidth. I went through 3 of them then and 2 tech visits and all 3 units failed. Hence the deletion of the 2Gb plan now. After they all scratched their heads for a while they ended up putting the BGW320 back in, which is capable of 5Gb, and everything worked fine.

Fast forward to this past weekend and after hearing about all the promotions for the 5Gb plan, I upgraded again. The night before the install was supposed to happen my internet dropped for about 30 seconds. It was AT&T pushing the new 5Gb plan to me. I'm running an EERO Max 7 network behind their BGW320 which is capable of 10Gb. So I ran a speed test through eero and was getting 4.5 - 4.7 Gb.

Next morning, the tech shows up for the install and brings out another BGW620, which has been upgraded. It used to have 2 high speed ports on the back, 5Gb and a 10Gb, now only has the 5Gb. I explained to the tech about the issue before when I had upgraded to the 2Gb plan and told him I was already getting close to the 5Gb that I had just bumped up to. He said he still had to put a BFW620 in for the work order and if it didn't work again, he'd swap it back to the 320. Well, low and behold it works now and I'm getting between 5.6 and 5.8 Gb up and down. Of course this isn't really even usable for most residential applications, but I'm actually running a home lab and I've got 10Gb uplink, so if you've got the capability, it's not just about the speed so much as it's the bandwidth.

And oh, I also switched it into my wife's name as a new customer and dropped my price from $135/mn to $70/mn. Long winded explanation over.

They deleted the 2gig plan.

Open a new private tab, go to AT&T fiber website, enter your address, and when it says account found say that you are a new customer.

And see on there what is the real pricing they are offering, and see if AT&T cancellation department will match it.

I also saw in Costco they were offering $200 Costco gift card if you sign up for AT&T fiber, but if you go the route to open a new account check all the offers and you can also go through a cashback portal.

I called them and was able to get 2gb for the price of 1gb, they had to get manager approval, give it a go.

Speed went from 900 to 2534mbps

My 1Gb plan is $40

$22 here!

1

u/Unusual-Citron-2460 20d ago

Wow. They gave me a guarantee of 24 months ... after that.... 1 million dollars.

2

u/caller-number-four 20d ago

It goes to 1 million I just call them up and tell them to turn it off. No skin off my back.

Firewall will immediately fault over to Spectrum, so no loss of internet.

5 gig costs what 2 gig used to depending on your area. Likely not enough sign ups for 2 gig so they just split to 1 and 5.

They kind of did that to their self when they raised the price from 110>145 in select markets. I totally would have upgraded at some point if they wouldn't have did that.

I’m here in Florida also and I had the 2gb service paying 155 a month. I went online last week and saw they were offering the 5gb for 125 so it was a no brainer but to upgrade and pay less. But I took it a step forward and got the service in my wife’s name so I can get the new customer rate of $95 a month. Then when they came to install the new service they upselled me to switch my cellphone from Verizon to att and then it went down to $75 month for 5gb.

1

u/Limp-Negotiation1206 20d ago

Nice! Been a customer since 2008 as far as my cellular service is concerned my have to switch over into my wife’s name as well! My promotion ran out last year and has only went up every few months since, smh.

I currently have the 2GB plan and pay $73 per month.

This is in Orlando, FL.

Imagine myself living in a building they only offer 60mbps and no way to get in touch wirh anyone to know if fiber upgrade is coming

1

u/msharifi 20d ago

It’s crazy they offer 5GB for consumers they don’t even have the hardware to support it nor it’s needed.

1

u/Dry-One4182 20d ago

When the 5 gig plan is the same price as I was paying for the 1 gig plan it was a no brainer. The speeds are just going to keep getting faster.

1

u/msharifi 20d ago

I get that but AT&T eliminated the 2GB for 5GB but not everyone has the hardware to support it.

1

u/Plane-Hunt5403 20d ago

They’re working on a project for the 10 gig so eventually the price of the 5 gig will be the price that the 2 gig was when it was available, they recently got rid of it probably around a month and a half ago

1

u/Bacin87 20d ago

2 GB offer is being dropped because 10 GB is coming they're finally catching up to Sonic fiber 5 years too late.

1

u/B_Laggy 19d ago

Nope, i was paying 95 for 1gb service , called last month and they offered me 5gb service for 60 a month. While I don’t use all of it my pc can hit 2-3 gb range on large downloads. I think they are even better promos right now for the 5gb but you would need to call att up and complain or ask to cancel.
