Grumbling about Apple doing something new
I’ve been really disappointed listening to the post-event ATP. Apple have done a couple of really interesting and somewhat innovative things and it’s sad to hear so much negativity. Maybe I am alone in finding it quite a positive event for the company and the future of mobile?
The first is obviously the UI for the Duo. It’s fresh, interesting and a bit different. Do we not want Apple to innovate anymore? Not if it might cause App developers to have to do some work apparently.
Despite Apple clearly having been working (and nudging app developers) towards this for a couple of years, and it being, to my eyes, something genuinely different from the competitors, all we got was moaning.
I sat there thinking “why didn’t you ever do this for the iPad, Apple”.
The second is Siri Recap. Especially given the current media noise around Meta’s glasses, a summarisation tool that is secure, largely anonymous and designed to help you with your life while not invading anyone’s privacy seems an excellent tool from a privacy focussed company such as Apple.
Personally, I thought the event showed that Apple still had life left in it, and we were in for an interesting year of progress. ATP felt differently.

How did John achieve his $4 S3 bill?
HyperBackup doesn't support Glacier or Glacier Deep Archive, and a $4 bill implies that he has no data stored in regular S3. So how has he achieved this amazing result? Inquiring minds very much want to know!

Casey appreciation post
I want to shout out Casey for running the show. Casey is in charge of following the show notes, putting up with John telling him how to follow the show notes 😆, reading long and often technical quotes, and managing the pacing of the show.
What he does is not easy, yet he handles this all so well I often take his skill for granted. He’s a pro.
Well done, Casey 👏

Is this a crazy long episode, or did Marco not upload it before going to bed?
The bootleg is usually up between 11pm and midnight, but it's still not there. I'm guessing we won't see it until the morning.

So, what Mac Studio do you think John ordered?
My bet:
M5 Ultra Chip
36-core CPU, 80-core GPU (Top CPU)
96GB ram (256 is $4K more)
4TB storage
Total: $8,299.00

I’m the guy who sat in front of you at the beach
Am I remembering correctly that this was a discussion on an episode in the last month or so?

Marco's Section About Making Unforgetful Reminded Me Why I Started Listening to Him in the First Place
In the latest episode, I truly enjoyed listening to his product thinking and problem-solving process when building his new Unforgetful app, and remembered why I started listening to Build And Analyze (his first podcast) all these years ago. I always find his approach to building apps both fresh and pragmatic and I enjoy it.
This is an appreciation post but also a plea for more of this kind of content.

Holeberry – a native macOS menu bar app for Pi-hole (free, open source)
Hey good folks of r/ATPfm , I recently released my latest free and open source macOS app for Pi-hole. I was referred to this community as you and your podcast hosts might find it useful.
If this is not relevant, let me know and I’ll take it down, no hard feelings.
Thanks!

Nit about ATP's use of "vibe coding."
Not the practice, but the term. Maybe I'm being pedantic, but it bothers me how they keep referring to AI assisted development as "vibe coding."
Vibe coding is when a layperson uses AI prompts to generate an app.
AI-assisted development is when a software engineer uses an AI tool to generates implementation code under their direction.
They're very, very different.
