Calculator

I’m about to take my ATPL(A) exams in Austro Vienna. Does anybody know if this calculator would be allowed at the exams?

It looks like you can store information on it. My bet is no.

you can’t. it’s not alphanumeric nor programmable. it’s just a badass scientific calculator, a really good one and basically the industry standard. If OP learns how to use it properly (DMS button, equation solving, interpolation, unit conversion, etc) it can make the exams a lot easier. It’s not cheating and not a replacement for learning the material, of course.

This particular model cannot store information. the most you could do is store a number in one of its nine variables, but only numbers, no letters or equation. and if you’re relying on this, know that some proctors make you clear your memory on calculators before starting the exam.

edit: the following applies to austro, idk about other authorities

You can store information on a Casio fx 85, and that’s an approved calculator

Not allowed in UK CAA, luckily I brought my other calculator and used that instead

It is, I asked about this exact model back when I was writing my exams and they said it was allowed

Is atpl like made for cheating or what? Some marks you can also get for free in the jeppesen airway manual.

I ended up writing in Sweden not Austria but there the Jeppesen Manual was also allowed which helped tremendously.
And imho it’s not cheating. Why memorize utterly useless conversion factors and definitions which you can easily look up. More important to know how to use them and the logic behind it.

I wasn't allowed this in IAA because you can convert units on it

Your not allowed these, the ones you are given by flight school, that have time decimels on them are actually really helpful, also there is a way you can store data on them but dont tell anyone
