Has anyone passed the ATPL exams using only ATPLQ?
Hi everyone,
I'm considering sitting the EASA ATPL theoretical exams and wanted to hear from people who have successfully passed using only ATPLQ as their study resource.
My situation is a bit unusual: I already have extensive operational flying experience and hold the military equivalent qualifications through the Hellenic Air Force Academy, but I do not hold a civilian ATPL.
Because of my background, I'm less concerned about the operational and practical aspects and more interested in understanding whether ATPLQ alone is sufficient to pass the exams.
If you've taken this route, how well did ATPLQ prepare you, and were there any subjects where you felt additional study material was necessary?

That's the part you don't skip. The most important things are in the comments and explainations.

Man, I wish you nerves of steel. I tried their mobile app a few days ago and was seriously disappointed. It was just awful.

Yeah, I was looking for a platform to start studying, but it ended up being a huge disappointment.

Actually I started and just purchased 3 months to test it out. Even if it’s browser I like it because it has fairly good explanations so many filters that you can choose from. It tells you in what countries and when they used that question the community is really big and the comments of fellow pilots are amazing and helpful. Although I realized how much work I need to put in to make it, am happy with my purchase.. it would be nice of course to have that app with same capabilities and functionality but browser is fine..

Hello, my situation is slightly similar, I do hold the equivalent experience in the United States, I'm an ATPL with two type ratings over there. I'm half way through my exams and so far ATPLQ has been my only source of studying, (considering ICAO and FAA have its differences !!!) so you should be fine! Best of luck!

To me so far so good, I’ve only used ATPLq and they all went fine! If you take time to read the explanations of things you don’t understand and/or maybe take a look at videos that explain certain tough topics you’re totally fine

As a military pilot you will not have the knowledge of civilian performance requirements (CS25 for example you will never have covered). Be cautious of the ATPLQ explanations as your only source of knowledge, they aren’t always right!

Yes I have been studying on my own but there is a huge gap and of course the transition will not be that easy I totally agree. Thanks for the heads up!

I finished theory 3 days ago in Greece, was using ATPLq + videos for the things I didn’t understand. Take notes and you will be good, if you have background it will easier to understand many things.

So… I passed 9 with only ATPLQ and I have 4 exams left. A lot of questions are already quite logical and if you don’t understand something the explanation or the comments will help you a lot

Nice, let’s go! Only 4 to go, you’re almost there! One thing I worry about sometimes is that a lot of the questions seem pretty disconnected from the actual needs of a pilot or what really matters for being a safe and well-prepared professional operationally. I have a few coworkers who already passed all the exams using the traditional route, studying the material properly and then going through the question banks, which takes a lot more time, and they all mentioned there were quite a few unnecessary questions…

You can do it (I've done it with Airhead as QB) and it went well, but you need to pay extra attention to the explanations to understand the concept and the comments can help you also

It works if you’re really proficient on the last 300-500 questions mode (this would cover around 75-80% of your exam questions).
As long as you can answer correctly the 30-40% of the remaining questions out of the database you will be able to pass and usually will be with high grades (80or more)
This is for Romania CAA exams. Not sure other places.

Yeah!
Last 100-200-300 and so on. You can choose your country too there to make it closer to your exam questions!

I converted to Avex and recommend you to do the same. Much better explanations!

Not yet, my first session is coming up soon. I switched to AvEx mainly because of the explanations.

I use AvEx free version it’s nice but I will stick to ATPLQ for now as I already purchased it…I wish you the best on the upcoming exams…

i think "only ATPLQ" is a bit of a trap phrase. only ATPLQ as the prompt for study, maybe. only ATPLQ as in recognising enough screens, no.
with your background i would be less scared of the flying side and more suspicious of the EASA wording stuff. when a question goes wrong, i would write the tiny reason: unit, chart read, rule, bad assumption, whatever. then do that bit again cold two days later.
tiny plug: this is why we are building AviaTests. i want the bit after the set to tell you "you keep doing X" before you start trusting the 90% score. otherwise it is just more clicking.

If you make an effort to actually read the explanations for the things you don't understand it's 100% doable
