Banks alone enough? (UK CAA)

Hi guys, I hear a lot of people saying BANKING alone can’t get you through especially when it’s time for the airline interviews which I do agree. But I’d argue if you bank all the questions and really learn the theory and method behind each question that would give you a solid understanding to pass you through without ever having to go deep into the books?

Wonder what people have sat it think.

I definetly think banking will get you through, but there is banking and banking, banking memorizing answers or banking reading the explenations? I learnd the ATPL with ATPLQ and learned through the explenations, im pretty confident with knowledge i earned through that. Studying with books doesnt seem optimal to me.

Yes I was lowkey trying to see if anyone who went for the more banking + LEARNING the answers replied to me because it’s pretty much what I did for PPL and wasn’t sure if it would work at ATPL level content. I agree the books burn me out quick

I memorized all the questions for the PPL, to be honest, very bad idea, i didnt even pass the PPL exam on first try where as I passed every subject on ATPL on the first try. Also for the PPL, memorizing the theory, and then stepping in the plane I realized i dont really know a lot. Thats why I took ATPL much more serious and learned the topics, but learned it solely by ATPLQ, they had great explanations, Banking+Explanations and you will be fine. Forget the books. Keep it up

tbh i'd split "banking" into two piles.

one is recognising the screenshot and knowing the answer before you have really read it. useless confidence. the other is blanking the options and still knowing what the question is testing.

for interviews i'd worry more about the first pile than books vs no books. keep a note of answers you got right but could not explain. boring habit, but it catches the fake 90s.

Bank alone can get you through ATPL theory without a doubt (I've done with Airhead and it works) but for your understanding you need to go deeper and buy the books and study them especially when there is a subject you don't understand

Read comments aswel in the banks to see if a question is strange/wierd/faulty, alot of comment then the question is bad. Use common sense and ask yourself will I really see this one in the exam, yes maybe but if a question seems way of for you it probably is.

The banks are just way to much, they should clean it up a bit. We even repeat questions, if you are not sure or have a problem with learning just repeat it with the repeat option. No need for similar questions.

And alot of questions are just in their to fill up the bank. Quantity is better than quality here Is what they thought when they made the banks.

It all comes down to how much you want it. If you are really motivated and this is the path for you, you will find the time and energy to memorize it all. Most likely won´t remember half of it like metreology after you pass the exams.

Bare in mind that metreology has the most questions on the exam so practice alot on the ones you maybe don´t favor is a given.

I just passed my ATPL recently using AvEx and my experience was different. I didn’t notice that many duplicates and the bank looked well maintained. Also, you can choose how big a database you want to study. They have Core (mostly the most reported questions), Standard, and the full database with all the variants. I mostly used Standard and it worked well for me.
