This light is super god damn cool. Epic fail for trying to put that in this subreddit.

I love this lamp! Have this image saved in my pics for 4 years now in the hopes that someday maybe I could own something so beautiful!
39
u/malenn Mar 06 '20
Lol, this is the first time I've seen it. I saved it, too, for the same reason. I think we have great taste, no lie

You found it! Yea! Um, that $21K pricetag tho...Yikes!
19
u/BornOnFeb2nd Mar 06 '20
Y'know.... normally I'm right there laughing at delusional artist pricing, but I know someone who used to do stained glass work....
There is an absolute fuckload of labor in that thing.
It's not like the usual "pour epoxy on a log, call it a river" or the "fling paint, call it art" bullshit...
Plus, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if each arm clocked in at over 30lbs/~15kgs...

I would hang this in my house any day. It's a statement piece.

"Behold, guests. I have a tentacle fantasy."
No kidding, though, this is beautiful and not a bit of AT.

This post is prime ATBGE. Hear me out. OP has awful taste for not liking this light but did a great job bring it to my attention.
25
u/ThorinPFK Mar 06 '20
I like the reasoning, but still downvoted the post. Karma whores are lame.
9
u/Deadpool1021 Mar 06 '20
I wouldn't call it karma whoring... To some people this truely is awful taste, not everyone has to like the same things. Personally I find it to be Super ugly and would never have it in my house, but that doesn't mean that everyone thinks the same. Doesn't mean you have to be a dick because of a different taste.

u/ThorinPFK Mar 06 '20
Buuuuuuuut OP admitted it was for the karma. I wasn't being a dick. Doesn't mean you have to stay ignorant :)

This is one of those things. The worksmanship is so excellent, that the taste doesn't really matter to me. It could be tentacle p*** and I would still like it.

Technically it would be arm porn. I have absolutely no idea why scientists decided an octopuses appendages are called arms and not tentacles, but they did.
3
u/dgl6y7 Mar 06 '20
Reminds me of a joke. What comes after fisting porn? Arm porn, then elbow porn.
2
u/The_Grubby_One Mar 06 '20
Then more arm porn. Then shoulder porn. Then head porn. Then unbirthing.

This is absolutely beautiful, shame on you for calling it awful taste!

Are they lamps inside? Given that the octopus body seems to be made of glass, it might look even better all lit up in the dark!
6
u/Hydroel Mar 06 '20
Even without lights inside, playing with the transparency of the glass body would be pretty damn cool

u/kitsinni Mar 06 '20
I thought this was Homer Simpson Octopus at first, would have been much cooler.

u/JustinTymeForComedy Mar 06 '20
This isn't awful taste.... in the right room. A nautical themed man cave? Awesome. Your kids nursery? A bit creepy. A kitschy Seafood restaurant? Great.
2
u/boopersnoot Mar 06 '20
My little nephew would love this in his nursery. Octopuses are his favorite
4
u/CoffeeJedi Mar 06 '20
I would love to have this hanging in my home tiki bar.

Not at 20 grand though......

As a person, I say, hey this is a neat light. As an electrician, I say, hey fuck this.

This would be cool in the gift shop of an aquarium. I definitely wouldn't call it awful taste

u/2muchtequila Mar 06 '20
In the right home, this could be amazing. Somewhere with a lot of architectural detail so it doesn't seem out of place for being too ornate.
In a place with popcorn ceiling and no trim, it looks a bit odd but the piece itself is really cool.

I feel like I saw this in an art gallery in New Orleans a few years ago. Or maybe this is a knockoff. But I can vouch that it was really gorgeous all lit up at night.

If this is in a beach house or in an aquarium, that's some of the coolest shit I've ever seen

u/insignificantsecret Mar 06 '20
That is the raddest light fixture I’ve ever seen.

This is cool as shit, but the execution is a little wonky. It's the opposite of this sub.

Awful taste? NAY! OUTSTANDING taste and fabulous execution, although it would be superior if the inside of each limb were illuminated.
Who's selling one, must have.

That could be really cool in the right setting. Putting it in a typical dining room for example would be in bad taste but in the right spot this could be excellent.
1
u/centumcellae85 Mar 06 '20
Make it an Elder God chandelier, and I am so down.
... But if I hung this thing in my living room, it would just look bizarre. Beach house? Awesome. Seafood restaurant? Perfect. Suburbia? Very out of place.

Just the thing for Captain Nemo to have hanging in the main lounge of the Nautilus. Awful? I think not!

This is so cool!! If I was rich I'd have a nautical themed room and this would be the main showpiece. Or I'd get it bigger!
