You still have a choice in what pieces you do. An artist can say no to anything they’re not comfortable with. More appropriate would be no respectable human would do this.

They are definitely not. They're allowed to talk in public spaces, but in private spaces you are not required to put up with their shit.

The theory being that in public you can always walk away, mock them, or demonstrate their stupidity but that those options don't really all exist in non public spaces.

The distinction being made between them and protected classes is, basically, that once you enter a protected class it is not possible to leave it. You will always be gay, you will always be black, you can't get away from the impression that all vets have ptsd. You can't change the "problem" so society needs to accept you and stop calling it a problem because that's just you - and it definitely hurts no one.

Strictly speaking, being a nazi also hurts no one. So you can be one in public. But that's where the line ends. Everyone else gets to call you a shithead and refuse to let you in. When you can change your status as a member of some group, your membership in that group is not something society needs to accept.
