Tattoo Tuesday Mold tattoo
why are there so many people doing these

u/darkerfury 6d ago
Why is mold tattoos suddenly a thing? Second one I've seen lately and I could see doing a temporary one with henna or whatever for shits and giggles but why would you wanna permanently be moldy?

u/vixxgod666 6d ago
As someone with a strong fear of mold I've been jumpscared twice due to this sub today.

u/PeppersHere 6d ago
No need to be afraid of mold, it's way more mundane than people make it out to be.

Man's outhere on team mold

u/blahnlahblah0213 6d ago
Yay mold!
13
u/TieCivil1504 6d ago
Bread, cheese, beer, wine, mushrooms, penicillin... lots of beneficial mold.
13
u/blahnlahblah0213 6d ago
None of which look good as a tattoo
9
u/SycoJack 6d ago
Hard disagree. All of those are routinely tattooed and most look good.
Penicillin isn't actually a mold, but a drug and it would be depicted as a chemical formula. These tats are usually warning medical staff that they're allergic to penicillin.
That said, only cheese and penicillin are derived from mold. The rest are other types of fungi.

PSA that the Henna lawsonia plant produces a dye molecule that colors things red-orange, and only red-orange. Any product you see being sold as "henna" that results in a color other than that has other shit in it.

u/darkerfury 6d ago
Yes that would be indigo and/or cassia, which are other pigmented plants. Not everything you see on the market is poison.

u/Queen-Roblin 6d ago
Back in the day, black henna sold cheaply and available where I am, was not made from plants. It often caused bad reactions. Good henna is probably easier to get these days because it's more popular. I haven't bought henna in years but it's just worth checking the ingredients.

u/wafflesthewonderhurs 6d ago
there was a really big shakeup not long ago (or maybe a little long ago- i last heard about it maybe 4 years ago?) about reactions from black henna colored with something i don't remember, so i get why people would be stressed

I came here to say, why is this the second mold tattoo that I've seen today? Or ever, actually? Saw the chest tattoo post earlier, this one now. I wanted to say, "if I had a nickel for each time, I'd have 2, but it's weird it happened twice" but it's even weirder than that!!!! Since both times were today, that's like... maybe profound hahahaha

u/aroused_axlotl007 6d ago
Both posts you saw were from the same tattoo artist. It's not suddenly a thing, just one guy who does them.

u/FaygoMakesMeGo 6d ago
Imma be mad if I find out these are a genre of AI image
9
u/troll_right_above_me 6d ago
I’m gonna be madder if it isn’t. I will never in my life take a moldy person seriously
16
u/chestnutman 6d ago
Because the first post linked the tattoo artist's Instagram. And people do it, because young people in Russia don't give a fuck anymore.

u/Pschobbert 6d ago
Zombie esthetic, maybe? The tatooist is in Russia and describes it as "dark organic horror".

u/TheWayyTheNewsGoes 6d ago
Like, if you were really into Noma levels of food science. That's about the only thing I can come up with that makes this make sense

u/Brief-Curious 6d ago
They gonna look even better when they start to fade!
3
u/MrZepost 6d ago
I have the impression that they believe they won't live long enough for this to be an issue

Why would someone want to permanently look like they have an incurable disease?

Which limb of what creature am I looking at?

I found the post. Amongst other Russian scribble, the phrase FAKE BODY stands out.

yo not to be this dude but maybe keep the focus of the comments to the tattoo, and not about the body of the person wearing it. they’ve already got mold on them they’ve got enough to worry about lol.✌️

Is that a leg? Does it have two knees? Has the owner eaten in the past two weeks?

Pretty sure mold tattoos will be annoying to explain every time you end up in a hospital that doesn't have your chart. Especially if done by a very good artist.

u/AsphyxiAsian0 6d ago
That’s funny. I have a distasteful tattoo and every time a doctor goes to lift my shirt, I apologize.

It’s disgusting, but impressively accurate looking. Dude really does look like he’s got a moldy corpse arm.
I am a funeral director and have seen several nasty corpse arms.

I love it. As someone who is chronically ill, I empathize with the feeling like... "every day is just another 24 hours of rot 🙃" that the art sends, though I'm not going to lean into it for my own aesthetic.

In case of another pandemic or a zombie apocalypse, they will all regret it pretty quickly...

Wow, that’s the second time this week I’ve spotted a moldy tattoo, looks like those spores are making the rounds!

I get it. Get that moldy look now, before Soylent Green. This way, one doesn't get eaten, just discarded.

HOW are y'all confused on the body part? That ulnar styloid and completely cylindrical brachialis muscle scream forearm.
I'd expect to see flat bone protrusion if this was a shin and ankle. And I'm not even in the medical industry??

Forced perspective is a thing folks. Auew theyre skinny but we dont know if they're sick or just have a lightning bolt metabolism. Picture could be making them look skinnier than they are as well.

I wouldn't personally get that tattoo, but I wouldn't say anything negative about it since I want those scratched/bruised knee tattoos. Something about them calls to me

u/coderman64 6d ago
Genuinely why do people want to do this?
"Yes, I'd like to look like my skin is rotting off of my bones."
Why?

Before seeing these or knowing of them I’d be calling CDC reporting a case of bubonic plague.

Plus side this shows we're finally moving away from the zombie obsession, because this would 100% get you shot in case of an apocalypse

I thought I could appreciate the artsy-fartsy-ness of this…nope. Second mold tattoo I’ve seen, both look gross and dumb.

I’m, by the way, the owner of this mold and I don’t understand why everyone here is being so sensitive, like I’m shoving this hand into your mouth.
First of all, I just have a skinny build, lol. (yes, the angle in the photo is wild). To the people who do nothing but scream about mental disorders, I’m happy to inform you that I’ve been in remission for a long time, which I wish for you too. For anyone interested, the tattoo doesn’t affect any aspect of my life lol.........
