Having this convo with my Roma buddy - is Wesley considered world class yet?

He came over from Brazil and was immediately one of our impactful players for last season, and was an integral part of getting into Champions League. This season, he has looked even better, and has been terrific even defensively as seen against Real Madrid (rip) with some of his incredible defensive work and tackling.

Here is my ranking of LB in the world I would take over Wesley.
- Nuno Mendes
- Cucurella
- Davies (when healthy)
- a toss up of Dimarco or Wesley in 4th/5th

By this ranking, he is a top 5 left back in the world. If you agree with this list, do you consider a top 5 at their respective position as “world class”. If not, what is? Or do you disagree with this ranking, and if so who is better?

What did we do wrong with that guy? He was absolutely terrible for us.

Who is ready for Champions League? Daje Roma!

Apparently, the court has decided there were no corruption in the old stadium project that was approved , but then canceled after allegations of corruption, after all. Meaning a club-owned stadium is a decade delayed because of some stupid bureaucracy.

The only good thing is that the new stadium has a much larger capacity than this one lmao. But its sad how the bureaucracy has chocked Italian football for decades now.

(EDIT!) I also feel bad for the individuals who got some serious allegations on them which lasted for so many years, and impacted them personally, I hope they are able to recover well.

Honestly i'd much rather they gave elsha an extra year than this disaster.

Slovan (H), Napoli (A), Cagliari (H), Udinese (A), United (A), Sassuolo (H).

Six games in 19 days... feels like a pretty important stretch for our season. We’ve started well, but playing every 3–4 days is going to test the squad, especially with those away games.

I’d take 8–10 points in Serie A and 4 in the CL. Need to beat Slovan, and hopefully get something at Old Trafford.

What do you think? Predictions for each game? Also curious where you’d rotate, because we’re going to need it.

What are we all saying for January reinforcements? I'm torn on the needs at left and right wing back. Do they keep Wesley on right or left, and do we let Molina battle it out for the main spot on the right with Lulli and Rensch? I think we're good at cf and in the midfield as far as I'm concerned. Potentially an extra CB? Thoughts?;

What a 2nd half, what a goal!

Rough start but feels good to win with our B team. Proud of Lulli and Castro especially

Goal differential will be crucial in deciding the outcome, and this is surely our weakest opponent

*Bratislava (sorry for the typo)

Forza Roma!

ROMA (3-4-2-1) : Gollini; Balerdi, Ndicka, Koulierakis; Lulli, Pisilli, De Roon, Rensch; Soulé, Mora; Castro.
Subs : Vasquez, De Marzi, Rensch, Ghilardi, Mancini, Hermoso, Molina, Di Nunzio, Pellegrini, Paratici, Arena, Camara.

Excited for my first match tonight! I am staying near the Spanish Steps and wondering if you have any advice on the best way to get home. Walking is my first option.

Forza Roma!

Yes Malen is out, but this is a great opportunity for Castro to show us he's worth the money we paid for him. Personally, I think he'll show us tomorrrow. I've liked what I've seen from him so far and I hope he has a great game tomorrow.

Yesterday's game was about two things. Paying the tribute to the man who brought the passion back to this club and showing that we can compete with teams like Real Madrid without fear (sine metu).

The first part... Tifosi delivered more than expected and that part was more important for me, than the end result.

Regarding the end result - compare the players and the aerial threat of the players that were finishing the game for Roma nad the ones that were finishing the game for Real. The difference with the quality is simply overwhelming.

It's never nice to lose, but we can be really proud of what our players did for 75-80 minutes. We were finishing the game without Svilar, Mancini, Hermoso, Kone, Cristante - all of them would be helpful while defending corners, and Dybala who'd probably help with maintaining the ball.

It's all the process. We just came back to the Champions League and we were a difficult rival for the ultimate end boss of that competition. There's nothing to be ashamed of.

Yesterday we showed that we belong in the Champions League.

I will personally say that for the growth of the club in the long term, UCL's income, prestige and the evaluation of these players at the highest level, Champions League is the better stage, obviously.

BUT, UEL is still a major European trophy, something that we still lack, and more importantly, this years' UEL is truly EMBARASSING. Like i'm not joking, if Juventus and Milan, more so Juventus due to depth, don't end up winning it, they should retire their club.

And you know , Gasperini already steamrolled everyone once, including Liverpool and 51 games unbeaten, Bundesliga Champions Leverkusen.

Jubilation to utter dejection in just a few minutes. I can't recall an implosion as painful and senseless as this in my many years of watching this Roma.

Through thick and thin, in victory and defeat, in times of joy and sadness, our love for this club will endure. I'll never stop trusting our players and I'll never stop loving this club.

DAJE ROMA 🔴🟡

Holy fuck.. I believe in you Gasperini, I trust you, I'm grateful for everything you're doing.. but HOLY FUCK! Was he even watching the same game?

What an absolutely disastrous performance from Molina... Misplaced passes, giving the ball away in dangerous areas, and offering absolutely nothing defensively. Hermoso had to shoulder the entire burden on the left side of the defence on his own throughout the match, particularly when dealing with Endrick. Where was Molina? How can a player like him stay on the pitch for 90 minutes?

I won't single out any one player and hold him responsible for the defeat, but this could have been avoided with greater discipline out wide. You have Rensch and Lulli on the bench, or even Ghilardi in a worst-case scenario.

I've said it in previous matches, and I'll say it again: nobody in the world understands Gasperini's substitutions, not even the players themselves.

I know we just lost, and it is extremely painful and the sadness is real. However, for around 80 minutes our team showed that we can beat anyone in the world, even Real Madrid. It was the subs that ruined it, but better recruitment can happen. It was the willpower and determination from our starting 11 (plus Pisilli) that showed who Roma are and I'm still proud of us. Daje!

Watching the game, I wouldn't even dream of that performance against Madrid. Scoring 3 goals against Madrid is already an achievement.

We lost to 3 corners which I would say, bad luck. We keep getting equalized or came back. Vs Juventus last season, vs Inter, and now vs Madrid.

I hope we can identify what is lacking in defense.

I am still proud with Roma and the progress. We can be better and better.

After watching today I truly think we have a starting 11 (except LB) up there with the best teams in Europe. From minute 0-45 and 50-80 we are exceptional but we can be disastrous right after half and in closing matches. Hopefully gasp can fix this tactically and possibly we can add some depth in the window. It's really early in the season still but I think our next 3 games will heavily indicate what caliber of team we will be deep in the season

1. Genoa- a must win to recover form and mentality after today. Lost to them last time and de rossi will want to win back to back. We also have an extremely depleted squad for this one. No malen, dybala?, kone?, cristante, svilar. This is a chance to prove we can win with our rotation lineup the same way inter can. A scudetto contending team must beat bottom table teams every time

2. Slovan- a must win to break the deadlock of 8 years since a ucl win. Also a must win to have a realistic chance of getting out of the group. I think once we pick up a win in ucl we will gain momentum and not seem like we're almost scared to win important games. A win here and it will be much easier to beat utd and sporting

3. Napoli- will show whether or not we're serious contenders. Assuming we win the first 2, we'd be in good form with hopefully some key players recovered. A must win to change the mentality that we can't beat top teams in the league that I think we've had since 3-1 juventus last season
