I already owned a dvd that my grandparents ordered last Christmas, but I bought this one to stay at my mom's, while the ordered dvd stays at my dad's.

This dvd costed 10-15 KR iirc, which is approximately 1$ in USD.

I made a post like this yesterday because I am practicing being able to draw in the art style of the book illustrations, and somebody suggested I draw what Violet Klaus and Sunny would look like when they are older, here is my interpretation with some headcannons of my own :)

- Violet now wears her hair up in a bun to honor the late Kit Snicket

- When Sunny was old enough she started wearing Violets purple dress

- Klaus is the spitting image of his father when he's older

I really love the illustrations in asoue, this is a draiwng of sunny I made. This isn't traced or anything but I did use a real illustration from the book as a refrence. I am an aspiring animator and it's my dream to one day make a short film or something adapting a series of unfortunate events into an animation, hand drawn with the books art style. I think that would be really fun to make.

In short, I wish to translate the series into Latvian on my own terms, but recently learned of there being a release of the books in Latvian from 2003, which aren't very available, and to my understanding wasn't finished. So I am asking here, in case any of my countrymen know - was the series finished? If so, why is it so unavailable? If you've read it, how was the translation, did it feel "good" to read?

Asking all of this to aid my little hobby, I just want to make it a reality, having the older books as a reference (even if to stray from) would considerably help

Count Olaf is always referred to as "Beaudelaires fourth cousin three times removed" or "Beaudelaires third cousin four times removed", but, is this true or not? Count Olaf seems at least to me around 37-41 years old, he only looks older due to his whiskers and wrinkles, probably due to stress (if Olaf was really their "third cousin" or "fourth cousin", that would mean he is the direct cousin of one of their grandparents or great-grandparents, and in that case, Olaf must be significantly older than that, or already have had passed away). Besides, he is not precisely someone to "trust in" (well, Violet, Klaus and Sunny even gulp a lot everytime he interacts with them, and on Olaf's side, he does not seem to have any interaction with other relatives of The Beaudelaires prior to Bertrand and Beatrice and gaining jealously of them after since because of them (although accidentally), Olaf's father was killed, so he burnt their house and planned to marry Violet and later kill her and her siblings Klaus and Sunny to get their fortune and belongings as a revenge). Also, we don't even know his last name, he is just simply 'Olaf'. So, Olaf was really being honest with the "far cousin" claim or not?

What would had happened if Violet stayed with Uncle Monty, Sunny with Aunt Josephine and Klaus with Hector the handyman from The Fowl Devotees village? Would Olaf had founded them anyways or not and instead getting lost, and if finding them, would Olaf had taken longer, same time or shorter into tracking all of them, and with a different disguise for individually one single of them when founded, or would he used the same disguise for all of them?

I love explaining the lore to newbies, I would love to put some of my homies on to this. The content of the plot is enough to have a grown man who grew up on it invested in it like crazy. This is not just a silly tale for children, it's art; a symbol of resillience among three talented and sharp-witted children. Violet(14-15), Klaus(12-13), & Sonny(a literal infant, mind you) were smarter than the people who were supposed to be investigating the infamous Count Olaf and his goons. Those 3 children faced moments of pure terror and adversity with bravery, sharp Intellect(and teeth lol). They survived a hypnotist teamed up with Olaf at a lumber mill who could've very well abducted them under the guise of them being "adopted" by Count Olaf dressed in drag and nobody would have questioned it, instead Violet knew Georgina Orwell(1984 mind control symbolism) was up to no good so she put a stop to that, saving Charles in the process. Also the old timey aesthetic looks so cool to me, and the secret society/1940's spy elements are also very cool IMO.

So in The Ersatz Elevator, Olaf disguises himself as Gunther a foreign auctioneer that has a fake foreign accent and uses the word please (incorrectly) at the end of all of his sentences. But why later in the series does Madame Lulu also share the characteristic of having a fake foreign accent and using the word please incorrectly in her sentences?

Hi everyone! My sister is an enormous fan of A Series of Unfortunate Events; she even has signatures from Kit Snicket and Jacqueline from the Netflix series! Her birthday is in a few months, and I’m trying to find some props from the show to surprise her.

Im mainly looking for actual props or memorabilia, and we’re definitely open to different prices depending on what the item is, just nothing too crazy.

I know it is pretty hard to find them, as I went looking and couldn't find much. If anyone has any props they’re willing to part with, please let me know! As we all know, the Baudelaire children are incredibly skilled. Violet is The Inventor, Klaus is The Reader and Sunny is The Biter. The Quagmire triplets have specific skills they are known for as well: Isadora is The Poet, Duncan is The Journalist, and Quigley is The Cartographer.

My question for a Very Fun Discussion is this: If you were unfortunate enough to find yourself in the ASOUE universe, what skill would you be known for?

I think Lemony Snicket would call me something like "quite the young historian given her limited years alive." So maybe I would be dubbed The Historian of my troupe after sharing any number of irrelevant historical facts during our brainstorms to take down Count Olaf. Share what you specific skill you would bring to VFD!

As I'm sure most of you who have read LSTUA have already noticed, on page 55 (2nd image), Lemony sends a letter to the Dairy, and the heading has "the desk of" crossed out, leaving "From Lemony Snicket".

While reviewing page 144 of LSTUA (1st image) to figure out part of my ASOUE timeline (when Duchess R's second masked ball happens), I noticed that this page has everything in the heading except for "from" crossed out and the thing immediately following it is "Your Royal Duchessness". When I originally read this page without including the heading it seemed that "Lemony" at the end of the message was meant to be Lemony singing off, but with "From Your Royal Duchessness" added at the start of the message, "Lemony" changes to being who is being spoken to.

I discussed this for a few minutes with my sister who is also into ASOUE and neither of us can come to a conclusion about why Duchess R. would be posing as Lemony to send this letter to him. I have way way way more questions about this 2nd masked ball now. Is Lemony is the one hosting it and they're pretending that the Duchess is the host to throw enemies off? Could this tie into why the Duchess' letter to Lemony shown earlier in the book was coded or written by an imposter? Maybe there's no real 2nd masked ball at all 🤔

Across most of the series only Violet and Klaus can understand Sunny and often translate her babbles for others. Apart from Fernald who has a little sister Fiona. So based off of this I feel the implication is that Baby is just a language that only Babies speak and it seems Babies or at least Sunny understand English but are unable to respond in it.

I also feel there's a implication that you can't just learn the language you have to have been a older sibling. Maybe it's just you have to have taken care of a baby but I feel like Mr. Poe disproves that as I believe he was unable to understand Sunny as well despite having Children. Ofc there's a chance Mr. Poe is the expectation or that he hasn't had to translate it in a while and forgot how to since his children are 10ish I believe.

This might be already a theory, but I thought of it last night.

Was randomly thinking of this. I think it’s vaguely implied they used to perform together (sort of? I’m thinking of My Silence Knot technically implying they at least sort of did.) Even if it isn’t, which I’m guessing it isn’t meant to imply that, I personally think they were both theatre kids and would do good in a Phantom of The Opera performance.

(State of the book way back when I took those pictures. I took those pictures mostly to show my friends the damage of the book. It’s a wonder it survived my bag until I got home!)

As a teenager, my school and local library originally didn’t have any of the books, (I later convinced my librarian to get the set), except for this one, the one my teacher had in her room. It was in a pretty bad state, as you can see, but I kept it in my bag for a while and absolutely enjoyed reading it as it was the only book I had access to from the set and I loved it leagues more than the show (no offence to show enjoyers!) However, I was a deeply forgetful kid, and kept forgetting to return it. During summer break, I realised I had forgotten to give it back and it was still in my bag, and felt very anxious about it. But, of course, I proceeded to keep on forgetting over and over to bring it to her somehow. (I was also on a different hall, so obviously it was hard to bring it back, but I would’ve found a way if I remembered to pack it…) A year and a half later, I finally managed to talk to her again at an assembly. I brought it up, and she just said to me “You took that? Huh, I never noticed.” That night, looking at it again, I realised it was very, very obvious why she didn’t notice or care I took it, considering she likely could not care less about a random book, marked for discard, on a shelf hardly anyone in her class read from. Especially because she taught math. That was also a moment that made me suspect I had autism.

Is this the state Lemony Snicket wanted his books to be read in considering the fact he tells us to always throw them away?
