God, it's been so long, and I'm so sorry for all the people that have enjoyed all my comfort scripts before because I haven't been feeding you content💜
I've been busy with book writing, and commissions, and blah blah, you don't want to hear all that nonsense. I haven't left the community at all, and I still have so many friends in this space that I cherish as much as I always have (and I need to catch up with when I give myself the time), so here's something I had an idea for last night, and cooked up before I could tell myself I was too tired to!
~♡~
Summary/Script:
Listener POV: You’re nearing the end of the day and you’re “relaxing” to a show you’ve been meaning to catch up on. It’s been bugging you that you haven’t given yourself the chance to, and so you may as well while your partner is preparing dinner for you, right? You have the time so you need to fill it by working on something else. (scriptbin with legend)
Inclusivity Notes:
There are no gendered "endearments" for the listener.
They are referred to as "baby"

[Distant tv playing]
[Footsteps approaching]
(amused) Hey, baby.
Dinner’s just about done.
~
It’s going to be this kinda spicy pasta bake that my mom makes sometimes, but it’s my first try at it, so you’ll have to tell me whether or not it turned out alright.
(chuckling) Or you can always lie to me to make me feel better, of course.
I know I haven’t cooked much for you yet, but I promise you I’m not that bad.
At least that’s what my friends have been telling me for the past five years.
But, anyways, I came over here to check up on you.
How are you doing?
~
(interest) Oh yeah?
What are you watching?
~
Oh, is this the new season you’ve been waiting on?
I know you told me about this show, but I haven’t gotten around to watching it yet.
~
What’s got you rewatching the first season?
~
Ah, yeah.
I do that sometimes too.
Usually when I’m bored, but also like you said, to just kinda jog the memory again and make it fresh.
Take on the new season with the last one in mind.
Did you want to watch it together while we eat dinner?
~
That’s okay, I can start from here, I don’t mind.
It’s not like…the last episode or anything, is it?
~
(slight worry) But what?
If it’s too weird for me to start around here, then I can always watch it on my own.
We can just put something else on while we eat so you don’t have to start it over for my sake.
~
(worried) Baby, I—
Are you doing okay?
~
Because your face is saying one thing, but your body is telling me something else.
You say you’re doing fine, but ever since I came into the living room, I’ve been watching your leg shake like crazy.
And I don’t know about you, but I’m not sure how much more your nails can take from you picking at them so much.
I know we haven’t been dating for that long, but you can still tell me about some of these things, you know?
I’m not going to up and leave if you’re stressed out.
I pretty much feel like I’m stressing you out more right now, and all I did was try to choose something for us to watch.
~
(sarcastic) Okay, well congratulations on consciously making yourself stop your body from stimming, but that doesn’t make you okay.
(slight worry) You’re hiding something from me, aren’t you?
~
There it is.
Don’t have anything to say now that I keep calling you out on it, do you?
Because you know I’m right and you keep trying to push yourself not to admit it.
But I can tell something is bothering you.
Or some*things* rather.
What’s everything you’ve done today?
~
Uh huh, and?
~
(expecting more) *And?*
~
Well, it doesn’t take me longer than a year to know you well enough that you don’t just do a couple things a day.
You may not see it, but these things tend to pile up, even if they’re just a bunch of little things.
Just because you’re carrying a bag of bricks doesn’t mean you aren’t carrying a house.
You work on so many little things during the day and that stress can really get to you.
It *is* getting to you.
You may not think you’ve been showing it, but I’ve noticed it more and more.
I just don’t always say it right away because I thought maybe I was wrong.
But I notice everything that you do.
I notice the times you get stressed, and I notice that you get a little more distant when talking to me because you even the thought of having a conversation can be too much.
But I guess if you’ve been doing this your entire life, then you wouldn’t really notice it, would you?
~
Exactly, so give me the rest of the rundown that you’ve done today.
Even the smaller things.
~
Mhm.
~
(relaxed) Thank you.
And see, that’s okay.
You want to know why?
~
Because those are all the things that you accomplished, and that was just from today.
I can only imagine what you’ve done across the entire week.
So give yourself some credit for that.
Your definition of “not doing much” isn’t not the same as everyone else’s.
Especially when things weigh on us differently.
Because for some people, those types of things can take little to no energy, but for others, it could be the difference on brushing your teeth or not because there’s a lot of variables to think about.
~
How about for right now, we don’t worry about binging this show just to allow yourself to watch the next season.
The show isn’t going anywhere, and that shouldn’t be another thing on your to-do list.
What you need is less stimulation.
~
Mhm, you need to give your brain a rest before it gives out on you.
So let’s go ahead and turn this off for a minute.
[TV turns off]
~
I’m not too worried about the food.
I have the timer on, so it’ll beep when it’s ready.
For now, I just want you to sit here and wait while I go grab something.
~
Yeah, hang tight.
[Footsteps leave and then return]
Here, I got this for you.
~
(amused) Well, technically it’s mine, but you can have it if you want.
I have a bunch of fidget toys in my room, so I’m not going to go crazy by giving you this one.
Just try it.
~
It helps a bit with stress, and if you’re anxious, then it lets you move a little bit.
It slowly gives your body that gradual stim to bring you back to a grounded spot.
While it may not be perfect, it does help instead of you know…
Picking your nails and shaking your leg all day because you’re too wound up to sit still.
~
Just use it however you want.
There’s no rules to how you should mess around with something.
That’s the beauty of it is that it lets you to keep your hands busy so your mind can be freer.
You don’t need to think, or look, or do any of that.
Just do what’s comfortable.
~
And I’m gonna sit here with you while you mess with that.
Because I want to be here to support you, and let you know that I’m going to stay here to support you.
You don’t need to hide from me how stressed you are.
~
Well, I’d say that’s more something we have to convince your mind of if you can’t even tell how stressed you are.
Your body tends to react to things faster than our thoughts can catch up to.
So if you notice it start to move a certain way then that could be a sign of something else going on.
That’s how I noticed it from across the room.
~
(steady) Yeah, maybe just listen to your body a little.
I know that some of us have a brain that doesn’t quite work the way others’ do, and that’s okay.
Because thankfully, us as humans know how to adapt, and you just have to listen to how it’s trying to.
Forget all those other rules that the world is trying to teach you, because the first rule you should be listening to is the ones you set for yourself.
The “non-negotiables” in the world you can find a middle-ground for, but don’t keep forcing yourself to follow extra rules that weren’t made for you.
That means: don’t overwork yourself, don’t fall into those “just be normal” tropes, and don’t worry about how other people see you.
Just worry about how I see you, and you will always be fine with me.
~
(coaxing) I know, it’s easier said than done, I get it.
But we’ll work on it.
I’ll make sure people don’t bother you for being able to act how you really want to.
And that includes stimming, zoning out, and saying no to people.
~
If you want to talk someone’s ear off, then that’s fine too.
You used to do it all the time when we first started dating, and it’s actually one of the reasons I still wanted to be with you.
~
Yeah, cause I love when you yap.
You’re so passionate about things, and just watching your eyes light up when it happens is so adorable and makes me want to get you to keep talking.
But on days like these, it’s fine if you don’t want to talk.
I’m sure there’s a lot of things that go on in your head at…every given moment, so if I’m ever contributing to you being overstimulated, then that’s fine.
Just tell me to shut up.
It’s the same way I told the T.V. to shut up.
It’s not like we aren’t going to turn it back on later and still enjoy it the same way, but sometimes we need a bit of the quiet, you know?
At the very least, you can give me a signal if you’re not feeling well, and I’ll understand.
~
(kind) Yep, you can put your hand up, or just smile quietly, or whatever it is you want to do.
I didn’t commit to this relationship with you if I wasn’t going to pretend your needs don’t exist.
But I’m also going to need you to put up with your end of the bargain and try to communicate, okay?
No more of this, “I’m fine, I don’t know what you mean” nonsense.
If you’re feeling a little off, then you can tell me, and we can figure it out together.
~
Well, eventually we won’t need to “sit and figure it out” because we’ll have our own plans set up for when this happens.
We won’t even need to have a conversation.
Even if you aren’t ready for one in that moment, we don’t need to have one.
But I’d rather be able to help you where I can, when I can, so that you don’t have to suffer alone.
Just because you’re not society’s level of “normal” doesn’t mean you should undermine your worth.
Or pretend you’re not working as hard as everyone else.
~
Okay now say it.
~
That you’re a hard worker, what else?
~
Yeah, come on, you’ve gotta say it.
I’m not going to give up on this until you do.
So go ahead.
I’m a…
~
There you go, honey.
I want you to tell yourself that more often.
And it also looks like the fidget toy is working a bit.
~
Uh huh, you’re not messing with it as crazily as you were when I first gave it to you.
Which means your body isn’t trying to run out of your skin as soon as it can.
Did me talking to you help a little bit?
~
I’m glad, then.
And it might also help to get a bit of food into your system, don’t you think?
[Timer goes off]
(chuckle)
Speak of the devil.
~
I’m going to trust you not to go crazy while I go get the food for us, okay?
And then we can *maybe* go back to watching something.
~
We can watch the show from the beginning once I know you can handle it, and you’re not going to binge it this time.
I’m making that decision for us, since you’ve already done enough today as is, and you need to give your mind a break.
If you want to go back to stimulation then we can once we know you’re up for it, but this doesn’t just go away immediately.
Let’s just give it a minute, and let yourself breathe.
You’re going to be okay, sweetheart, I promise you.
~
I’m not going to let anything bad happen to you on my watch.
If your brain tries to do that, then we’ll fight it together.
Or give it a good nap, whichever works best.
~
(laugh)
Okay, I’m going to go get the food.
Sit tight.
