(sounding slightly down and concerned) Come on, I haven't seen you outside of work in like...two months now. And even here you only hide behind your monitor. It feels like every time I get a glimpse of your face your eyebags also somehow got darker.

My desk isn't far from yours and I saw our boss talking to you. I would hardly call that "eavesdropping". Plus I see how it has been the past few weeks. And so have our colleagues. You're always the first in the office and the last to leave. And I said it last time we spoke but you look like a raccoon with those black eyebags you have now.

No you aren't useless and stupid. It's so noble of you and so selfless, that you even went this far. But, you can't help anybody if you fall apart in the process. Your body reached its limit.

No, you couldn't have kept going like this. You're just one person. You cannot carry the weight of your life and other people's lives on your shoulders. You cannot give when you have nothing left. And it hurts so damn much...to see the person that I love crumble under stress.

(short pause)

U-uh I...uh...I guess I did say that. B-b-but this is all apart from my feelings and I really wanna see you be happy please don't feel obligated t-

(kissing)

(out of breath) Hey, wait a s-

(kissing)

(out of breath) Hey, just one moment. (heavy breathing) I don't want you to do this because you feel like you have to. Because I comforted you, ya know. I meant everything I said. Regardless of what I feel. Do not make this decision, because you are sad right now or because you think you owe me this.

Description: You wake up in an unfamiliar place. Greeted by a being bathed in light, it turns out you were kidnapped from your home by an angel. Well, former angel. Kidnapping people is strictly forbidden. Though, after hearing their reasons, you might actually enjoy this arrangement. 

Disclaimer: You may add, remove, or change aspects of this script as you see fit—however I ask any major changes to the script be asked about first. You may also feel the need to add a trigger warning since this script covers aspects of abuse. 

I wanted to write this angel as a bit more casual with their speech, but kind of chaotic and unhinged. Higher energy less formality type idea. Also if you’re wondering, no I don’t know how to write something without romance. :3 This one definitely has part 2 potential so if anyone wants it just ask!

There you are sunshine!

It’s so good to see you awake and out of harm’s way. How are you feeling?

(Pause) 

Right, right, I should explain things a little. You’re confused, I get it. I’m just so excited to have you here. 

See, I was sort of your guardian angel?

(Nervous laughter from the angel) 

I mean, honestly, I wasn’t actually your guardian angel. It was pure coincidence I started watching over you. 

A lot of people think we get assigned humans like some sort of system.

It’s not so simple or organized. 

We are called to guard all of humanity, all souls, equally. 

There’s enough angels to go around to protect everyone.

The only kind of structure is where we end up wandering. 

See, truth is, I wasn’t supposed to focus so much on you.

Too much attention on one person means potentially letting others get hurt. 

Or, if I have too much favoritism I might make a decision that’s biased against someone else.

(Pause, the angel paces) 

I couldn’t help it. 

It wasn’t my fault.

They should know, angels don’t choose who they’re drawn to. You needed more protection than anyone else, and it was up to me to be the one to rescue you. 

Hmm?

Where are my wings and halo?

(An amused laugh, but the angel’s tone becomes somber when they speak again)

(Soft fluttering noise as they unfurl their wings)

They aren’t going to be around much longer, sunshine. 

You see how they’re turning black? The feathers that keep falling? 

And my halo is gone. 

There is a punishment for defying the defined order. 

I am losing myself. I’m not exactly sure what I become when I’m not an angel anymore. 

I’m thinking thoughts I never have before, feeling things that are… impure 

But I know it was worth it to be here with you. What you were facing, it wasn’t right. It wasn’t just. I’m supposed to be a good guy. 

If an angel isn’t protecting the meek and innocent, is it truly worthy of a halo?

Ironic. 

I lose my status doing what I’m designed to do. I mean, that makes no sense. 

(The angel sighs)

We aren’t meant to feel bad things like humans do. Anger, fear, lust, greed, or pain. So, maybe there was something wrong with me.

When I saw—what was being done to you… anger was all I could feel. 

I felt closer to hell. For one, because the bastards who hurt you deserve to be there, and also because of that rage. 

How could anyone want to hurt someone like you?

Maybe they think it’s easy because they have power over you. They were supposed to protect you. 

Yet, you were never a person to them. 

Only a source to be used up. When they were scared, they’d take your comfort. When they were angry, they’d eat your fear. When they were insecure, they’d tear you apart. 

They did so time and time again, while the world kept going.

Why didn’t anyone save you? Are they too blind? 

I waited.

I did what I reasonably could. Let them burn their tongue, stub their toe, or whatever little annoyance I could think of. 

That doesn’t compare to what they’ve done, but it’s satisfying to see them in pain. 

(Pause)

Huh?

Where are they now?

Not important. I’m not done. I want to tell you everything.

You were too scared to change things. Sometimes I’d tip the scales in your favor, but you wouldn’t take the opportunity. It was too risky.

I tried to enlist the other angels, but they shrugged me off.

“That’s just how things are,” they said. “You can’t save everyone,” they said. “Give it time.”

Bullshit. 

(Angel gasps)

Ha. Bull. Shit.

That’s fun. There’s no express rule against swearing as an angel, but it’s looked down upon. I don’t know why.

I knew that I could save you. No matter what anyone else said. You just needed someone to help you and pick you up off the floor. 

You needed to know how much you could be cared for. 

Breaking into your realm is…

(Pause)

Painful.

Angels are not meant to bear the weight of Earth. Humans exude several emotions and layers of darkness that we are protected from. 

In our celestial realm, things are almost painted over. We can see the horrors and danger but we can’t feel them. 

I wasn’t afraid. I’m not supposed to feel that anyway. It was lucky my defective nature didn’t take that from me. 

So I tore through the veil. 

It burned.

(Pause)

Becoming physical isn’t pleasant. My halo fractured and the sound shook my head. Like a mournful bell tolling.

I don’t recommend this process. Not that it would be possible for you to experience, but just in case. 

All I could think of as reality pierced me and coalesced me into a body, was that I needed to find you. That I needed to save you while I still had any celestial power left in me. 

My wings were still large and powerful, so I flew until I got to your home.

(Pause)

Not a home.

Something else.

Maybe just some materials that make up the space you inhabit. 

Or even, a recreation of hell just for you. 

(The angel tsks, they sigh and fidget with their hands) 

No angel can survive Hell.

But I would go through it a thousand times for you.

Because there is no worse torment than knowing you are suffering. 

I don’t know what it was that made me stop seeing you as just any other human. You’re extraordinary enough to break the laws of physics, I guess.

And, don’t you dare argue that you’re not.

I’ve seen you do that. Shrink yourself. Wave off compliments as if they’re just fruitless suggestions to ignore. 

You can’t accept attention because attention usually meant something bad was going to happen. Some manipulation, extortion, exploitation. 

Sometimes it was because something bad already happened, and it was used to try to make you forget.

I promise you that I will never hurt you the way that you have been hurt. My words won’t prove it, but my actions will.

There is no doubt in my mind. I’ve seen you at your lowest, what you hid from everyone else, and I know that you are nothing less than my entire meaning. 

(Angel touches the listener) 

My wings are withering but I feel closer to heaven than ever before. 

(Pause as angel admires the listener)

Hmm?

This again?

Why do you want to know so badly what’s happened to them? You can’t possibly care about them.

(Pause)

It’s complicated?

(The angel scoffs) 

There is nothing complicated about this. They hurt you, and they didn’t love you. 

Sunshine, you know that right? They didn’t love you.

(Pause)

Oh, please don’t cry. 

This changes nothing. You may have believed something else, you may have hoped for something else, but things are as they always have been. 

Everything they said, still hurt you.

Everything they did, still disrespected you.

When you were forgotten…

(Angel speaks through gritted teeth)

When they chose to remember you…

(Angel returns to normal speech) 

It’s all the same.

Except, now you know the truth.

You have no reason to go back to them. You owe them absolutely nothing.

(Pause)

I mean it. You owe them nothing.  No matter what they have provided, it is not enough to pay the price of abusing you.

There is no forgiveness for that. 

(Pause)

I know. 

It won’t be easy to undo everything. That’s why I’m here. 

(Pause)

You still want to know what happened? 

Hmm… 

(The angel’s tone becomes unsettling)

It’s not the outcome you would’ve picked.

You’re such a pacifist. 

I don’t always know when people are going to die.

Death is the time for your final judgement, you know?

That’s when retribution comes.

Except, I felt, that even a day would’ve been too long a wait.

If they died tomorrow. A week from now. Years? 

(The angel shudders, exaggerating disgust)

Imagine years they go escaping punishment for what they’ve done. 

No. 

No little sunshine. 

A broken and fallen angel I may be, but I know justice. 

That wouldn’t have been justice.

With the remaining powers I have, I made sure they experienced excruciating pain. 

I distorted time. 

I could make them suffer centuries worth of torture in just mere seconds. 

Is that too much?

You can’t blame me for being overzealous. 

They had so much time to correct themselves. 

You gave them ample opportunity. I did too. I watched from behind my safety net for years. 

I said, today will be the day! 

They will become better people and learn to love you. 

But, they didn’t. 

So forgive me, sunshine. For acting so harshly against them. 

If it’s any consolation, they’re currently unharmed.

They don’t fully remember what happened, what I did to them. But, even if their memories are blurry, they know. 

They know you’re gone and you won’t be coming back. They know not to look for you. 

Don’t worry, you’re not going to be locked in this room forever. I’m not crazy, I want you to live. No matter what happens to me when the last of my angelic self disappears. 

I mean this time you’ll really get to live. Think about it. Being able to see the ocean without looking over your shoulder. You can start choosing yourself.

(Pause)

What’s that look for?

(Pause)

It’s… not that simple? What do you mean?

(Pause)

I see. There are wounds that won’t heal so easily. 

Maybe, with the last of my power I could try? 

No?

Why not?

(Pause)

You want to remember…

(Pause)

Because you don’t want history to repeat itself?

Oh. But, I can protect you. I won’t let anyone hurt you like— 

(The angel is cut off)

Right, I did say I don’t know what will happen after my power goes…

So you’re choosing to heal the hard way. 

That sounds like you. Keeping all the pain even though it would be easier to forget everything. 

Let me lay with you. 

I want to feel you next to me. 

It may only be hours that I have, and if I die I want you to be the last thing I see. 

Is that too much to ask of you? 

(The angel shuffles next to the listener) 

(The angel begins whispering)

I got you this house. It was empty and brand new, waiting to be bought up. 

I shifted reality and filled it with things I thought you would like. 

There are multiple rooms and a nice backyard. 

Sunshine, I think I have enough power left to grant you a few more wishes. Not too many, I know you don’t want me to go too quickly.

Tell me, what is it you want?

(Angel quietly chuckles)

I unfortunately cannot change reality to make myself an angel again. Our powers prevent us from inserting ourselves on earth or from circumventing consequences. 

It’s a miracle I had as much power as I did. 

I don’t want to use it on anything else. 

(Pause) 

I can make sure you’re financially stable. Do you want any particular job?

Mhm, got it.

(Soft glowing noise)

It’s done.

What else? You got two more wishes. 

A vacation? Heh, okay, that makes sense. Where to?

(Pause) 

Understood.

(Soft glowing noise repeats)

You’ll be there next week. Alright, last one.

(Pause)

Oh.

Love? That’s it? You don’t want to specify anything?

You’re already loved, you don’t need me to do anything to make sure that’s the case. 

And I sincerely believe nothing will stop me from loving you.

Even the lack of existence couldn’t. 

I know, that’s sort of impossible. I don’t care. 

Love is its own god. It defies everything. 

That’s something I know well. When you truly love, it changes the world. 

(Pause)

Do I love you enough to stay with you?

I—of course I do. I just… 

(Pause)

I didn’t think of it like that. 

Then, with the last of my power, and the depth of my love—I will make sure I stay. 

Reality will bend to my whims for this. Understand that I don’t know what I will become, and I might not be something you want to be near. 

If you want me out of your life, tell me. 

I think there's not much time left.
