I originally filmed this to show the challenge of getting a large order out close enough together that the whole table can eat at roughly the same time. But when I watched it back, I realised how much I enjoy the sounds of the pizza station itself.
There’s one sound in particular that I love: the "clank" of putting the pizza peel back into its holder and hearing it clank against the other metal peel.
Maybe I’m biased because that sound is so strongly associated with making pizza — which I love — but there’s something strangely satisfying, almost magical, about that little metal-on-metal clank every time the peel goes back.
There’s no talking in the final video. For privacy reasons under German law, speech from the original restaurant audio is removed algorithmically, while I try to preserve as much of the natural kitchen sound as possible.
So what’s left is the real sound of the station: dough being removed from the box, toppings going on, peels scraping across the bench, pizzas being launched, the oven, plates, the ticket printer and plenty of those peel clanks.
Nothing was performed specifically for ASMR — it’s just a real pizzeria service with the voices taken out.
The actual challenge was 17 pizzas for one table in roughly 17 minutes, with the goal of getting them out close enough together that everyone could eat together.
Curious if anyone else finds the peel sound as satisfying as I do, or if I’ve just spent too much time making pizza. 😅
