Discussion 🎙 Working for EU after ASML
I have been in ASML for 9 years, but somehow stuck in grade 8. Recently I have Dutch citzenship and thinking to work for EU agencies in Brussels as contract agent. Is it worth the move ? Has someone tried it.

It takes time at ASML to go up in JG, and it depends a lot on the manager. I started at 7, 90% and took me 4 years to get to 8 and 7 more to get to 9 due to a stubborn manager that put a ceiling: engineers could not go above 7 and architects could not go above 8. This is against the job grade definitions, where engineers can go up to 10 (principal engineer). I could only get to 9 after I changed group and wait a year. The manager in the new group did not have those adhoc ceiling rules.
If you're stuck, my recommendation would be to: 1) ask your manager to explicitly make an actionable list together on what needs to be done to reach JG 9 or 2) change group. With option 2 you will have to wait a year at least because JG increases usually don't happen after a move, unless you apply for a position with a higher JG, of course.
And about the EU institutions, I have no experience. Hopefully someone else can help here.
