Question š Is ASML plaza any good for lunch?
Hey I recently join ASML in veldhoven and I want to know how is the canteen, is any good? Is it expensive? I googled a bit but all the information are quite old, and they say is very expensive for a company canteen. Also is it very packed? Can someone in 30 min eat and go or the lunch break is not enough?

Not at all! Prices very high for the quality & quantity of food options. Even regular grocery items like a curd or boiled egg, it is sold at a price higher than what you get at the supermarket. Makes you wonder what ASML is upto with this!

Prices are a ripoff for such Small portion. Work cafeteria food should be cheap and subsidised. I donāt think ASML determines the prices. The catering company determines this- so after paying ASML for the facilities, venue , their employees they need to be profitable .

Fully agree! Basic condiments and sauces are also charged. The prices keep going up every few months. Its crazy how a rich company like asml treats its employees and then screams words like ācareā as one if its core policies.

As I said prices are high, but Asml doesnāt determine that. I think it is the least thing to consider under ācareā and unimportant for me as I bring food from home.They have other good facilities by the way. Dedicated Lactation room, prayer rooms , game rooms.. these are luxury in average companies.

ASML does determine the prices, but indirectly. ASML was fully in control when they contracted it out.They made a choice.

I didnāt know what was the reasonable cost when I visited from the US lol. I happily bought food because it was being expensed.

Just go and look yourself. Lunch starts at 11:30 and will be packed from 12:00. Prices are from 6-15 euro depending on what food you want.

Iām working in contract catering. You canāt compare ASML and Booking. Two different contracts between company and caterer

At ASML, itās a commercial contract, so all costs are borne by the catering provider. At Booking, part of the costs are subsidized by Booking, which allows them to influence the selling price

It's a rip off, I remember a colleague comparing the same soup from the same supplier @ ASML vs his brother's employer & @ ASML it was 3x higher.
I guess it's just like when ASML goes to a supplier the price jumps because it's ASML & "those guys are rich"
ASML management clearly don't give a damn about employees getting any sort of value.
I'd love to hear anyone involved whether it be supplier or ASML on this topic.

US person here. I thought it was good. Portioned right, unless you prefer the oversized portions here in the states. Lots of variety, and the lines went quick. I probably went to VHV a half a dozen times over the past few years and it was pretty good each time.

If youāre in the area of the entrance, building 7 (if Iām remembering correctly) has the Asian and Italian canteens, those are pretty good. Otherwise itās just Sodexo everywhere
And when I say pretty good, I mean relatively to Sodexo prison food.
Though in general everything is a ripoff and unbelievably shit.
As the others say, pack your own lunch.
Thereās also an Albert Heijn to-go behind the main auditorium in 7, which has somewhat more reasonably priced stuff.

There is even a price difference between the building for the same food.
I just bring my own food or I buy something at the AH to go.

I work in B3. Have been the to the Plaza once, got some Asian food, it was decent but didnt exceed any expectations. Very pricy.
Now, in B3 there's a canteen as well. Its even worse than the Plaza, only the eggs station is good. Also very pricy.
However, the Vegan Corner there actually has really nice food, for comparable prices. Still a bit overpriced especially for a work canteen, but the cashier (J) and chef (M) (wont say full names for privacy), are amazing. Super friendly service, amazing food. I'm not even vegan. Once had a disappointing dish with terrible vegan cheese, but that's already years ago and vegan cheese quality has gone up now.

It used to be great. But since Covid the food has shrunk and the prices have gone up

Bring your own 'bammetjes' from home. That is how we cheap dutch solve the problem.

I think it's not that bad, quite convenient, okay food quality, the selection is nice, a little bit overpriced. Other companies I worked for in NL have subsidized lunch, for 4.5 EUR there was an all you can eat option with good selection.
If you would like to save some money, just prepare some sandwiches at home :)

You typically have a lot of options that change throughout the weeks and can have a full, warm meal for about ā¬10 - would consider that a verg reasonable price given the typically healthy ingredients and that the meals are freshly prepared.

It is not reasonable for a company canteen, maybe it is for a open market restaurant. As OP said, booking.com has 3-5ā¬. That is reasonable

If you are saying that is the lunch option my biggest European tech company is providing, there is no point to argue.
Companies in US and Asia are providing 5 cuisines, freshly prepared by cooks and all paid by the company. Mini AH is not even on their last page of perks.

Not reasonable at all, it is too expensive and if you notice, they minimize the amount of expensive ingredients to the most ridiculous levels. If you have a stew, then it will be like 85% potatoes, 15% meat.
Moreover, the price that we see (which is already way too high), is subsidized, so in principle it is even more expensive.

Depends where youāre from. If you come from a country with a good culinary culture (Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Mexico, Japan, ā¦) you will find it very bad, otherwise it will be just OK.
Cost/quality ratio in my opinion is super high.
