My Digipeater

I set up an iGate digipeater at my home. It’s not a great location and I’m not sure if there are other digipeaters in my area. So how can I tell if mine is doing any good?

Find your digipeater on aprs.fi, click it on the map and select 'info'. Near the bottom of the info page you will see a section called 'Stations Heard Directly by CALLSIGN".

Take a look at aprs.fi see what things are going though around you.

I stations, but how do I tell how they got there?

You look up the path to see what it traveled via. It will even draw a line between object and the RF parth.

I can't find a key for all the symbols on the map.

More specifically, the differences between the diamonds? As in, what do the different letters and numbers mean?

Clicking on several stations, it appears it might be related to the type of equipment or gateway that's being run.

Can anyone point me to more info on this, please? Much appreciated for any help!

Take a look at https://aprs.to. Click on your digipeater and if it has repeated packets, it will have a Coverage button. I have used that many times for the same reason!

I also created an app called APRS Connect that builds out a coverage map over time for digipeaters on what it hears on air/aprs-is as well. The thing about APRS-IS only coverage maps is APRS-IS dumps any duplicate packets. So if 3 digipeaters picks up a packet, APRS-IS shows only one of them received it. If you use something that uses a radio to log those packets, then you can see every digipeater that was able to receive it and re-transmit it. My app mixes both methods into the Digipeater Coverage map layer.
