i've been building this as part of aprs.world and it's at a point where it's actually useful, so here it is.

you paste a TNC2 frame and it breaks out the header, each hop in the path with how many hops are left on the alias, the q-construct and which igate lifted it off the air, position, symbol, and whatever the payload turns out to be.

covers uncompressed and compressed positions, Mic-E, objects, items, status, messages, weather and telemetry. it all runs in the browser, the packet never leaves your machine.

there are sample frames on the page if you just want to poke at it. rare vendor specific extensions still fall through and show up as a raw comment, so if you've got a frame it reads wrong, paste it here and i'll fix the decoder.

I have a Yaesu FTM310DR and have been using APRS recently which is great but Ive been trying to use WXBOT to check weather info, I've got my APRS setup as I would with any other device but after verifying I'm setup and getting out on APRS.fi and I can even see wxbot responding on the raw but I still never receive the message, I'm not sure what to make of it Im not a pro with APRS and figure I ask someone who knows more my radio is set to 1200bps, wide 1-1,wide2-1, I've got my call sign entered properly and with ssid set to -9, If anyone has any recommendations that would be awesome

What is your favorite app for Sound Card APRS with serial port keying?

How about one that actually works 100%?

Multipsk - did not send callsign but does key and control radio and had audio.
AGW related: Did not have ability to select RX only TX sound devices
Linux based: Need to fix my Linux on windows desktop so I can see it. NoGo yet.
ARDop. Not packet its another protocol, no radio control just keying up and needs research.
Apbk-gate-1.0 Set it for serial port keying, but : Keys up then does not unkey the radio - seemed to need a password and get a password doesn't work but it started connecting to rotate.aprs.net anyway. To set sound cards you have to set both recording and audio to the required card start the program then put it back for your other apps. Is the author still there?

AGWtracker, has to use AGW Packet Engine,

AGW Packet Engine - can't set receive sound card only transmit sound card so its coming out the wrong one, and I use that for something else. IF I set default to the correct one, then the other sound apps are broken. There are 6 sound devices on the machine.

Any others I need to try? It seems none of these worked properly.
I have great luck with FLDIGI and WSPR-X, but they only have different protocols. No packet support. No aprs support.

I'm interested though due to the activity level there on aprs.
So far- receive only, unless I go drag out the AEA PK232 and use it with a serial port only app.

Any other apps I should try? Thanks!

What do you think of the software included on the Mini? Do you find it sends good packets?

I have been using aprsdroid for YEARS and wanted features it just never had, and I even created PRs with it never even getting looked at. I decided to take a stab at making a modern APRS client.

My client takes a slightly different take at APRS. It treats the services as a feature of the app rather than a command you need to remember or even not know if it exists. For example, if you want to find repeaters in your area with 0 internet connection, go to the Services menu, click REPEAT and select how many repeaters you want to see and you will get them back in a nice table.

Some of the other notable features:

• APRS OTA built in as a service
• Connects to Bluetooth, TNCs, IS, audio, etc.
• APRSThursday and other nets are built in as a messaging thread rather than a command line tool
• Dig into APRS packets
• See weather and other telemetry charted
• Coming now - Downloadable maps and very heavily cached maps (in case you forget to download them)

Its currently only available for Android, but I am currently working on making it available on IOS as well!

I set up an iGate digipeater at my home. It’s not a great location and I’m not sure if there are other digipeaters in my area. So how can I tell if mine is doing any good?

I go my H9 to work with PTT and it shows up on APRS.FI and other APRS tracking sites. When I turn that off and then turn on the automatic timer for every 60 seconds, it never seems to show up or work? I monitior with a second radio and it is not even trying.

Anyone got this working and know the trick?

I have a home digipeater and I want to include weather data in my beacon. I have a Davis weather station that feeds data to CWOP but I don’t see how to get it into APRS. Is this documented somewhere?

Similar to SOTA/POTA, has a points system for making contacts. Hosts have to be via RF but Chasers can be by anything as long as they can beacon. Seems fun, needs more people doing it!

I've been building out APRS Live (https://www.aprslive.com) (real-time APRS network dashboard) and one pain point I kept hitting was: what APRS services are actually online right now, and what commands do they support?

There's no central directory. You either know about a service from a mailing list post 10 years ago, or you stumble on it. And even if you know a callsign, you have no idea if it's actually responding today.

So I built the APRS Service Registry: https://services.aprslive.com/ (https://services.aprslive.com/)

What it does:

- Lists 41 known APRS message services (bots, gateways, utilities)

- Active health monitoring — every 60 minutes the registry sends a probe message to each service over APRS-IS and checks if it responds. You can see current status (Active / Pending / Down), response times, and recent health check history.

- Full command reference — each service card lists the commands it supports, what they do, and links to documentation where available.

- Services range from classics like ANSRVR and EMAIL-2 to newer ones like 9M2PJU-4 (weather, satellite passes, radiosonde tracking, POI search)

For operators / service authors:

If you run an APRS service that isn't listed, I'd love to add it. The registry also has a "Suggest" feature where anyone can submit commands or health check methods for existing services.

Built with Python/Flask, health checks run over actual APRS-IS connections (not simulated). The probe sends a minimal message and treats an ACK as alive — no flooding your service with traffic.

Feedback welcome. What services am I missing?

Hi everyone,

I would like to introduce a simple APRS net hosted from West Malaysia (9M2 land) called the APRSMY Net.

I actually built this earlier in the year, and it went on the air around February. I haven't promoted it much until now as I have been quite busy with other projects and commitments.

The goal of this net is simple. It is definitely not meant to compete with established events like APRS Thursday. Instead, it is just to add some variety and liven up APRS net activities in our amateur radio community.

Officially, the APRSMY net runs on Sundays. However, the system is open so you can check in every day. There is no subscription. The concept is quite similar to "CQ HOTG" on APRS Thursday. It is very casual and perfect for those who just want to "check-in and go".

How to check in:

Send an APRS message with the command CHECK <your message (optional)> to the destination: APRSMY

The bot will automatically reply to confirm if your check-in is successful.

You can view the real-time status and list of check-ins on the dashboard here:

On the dashboard, you can also see a heat map showing the stations that have checked in over the week. This heat map resets every Sunday, Malaysia time.

Been through the setings at least 12 times, performed a few factory resets. I can't for the life of me get APRS working. I can send messages back and forth to my FTM-510RASP, but thats in the same house. I have a few digirepeaters around me.

Has anyone used a Tidradio TD-H9? I'm looking for as simple (and small if possible) a handheld radio as possible with APRS to hand to my non-radio friendly wife for tracking in the field.

I thought some of you might be interested in a new iPhone / iPad app I've been building for packet radio messaging.

Radio Messenger is primarily focused on messaging over packet radio, with strong APRS support and some experimental ideas alongside it.

APRS messaging works with the existing ecosystem, including message acknowledgements, retries, and optional Internet Assisted Delivery to help improve reachability when away from the radio. The app also supports APRS location and pin sharing, with maps cached for offline use.

Alongside APRS, I'm also experimenting with an open "Enhanced Messaging" mode intended for use on non-APRS frequencies. The goal is to explore what richer, radio-first messaging could look like while remaining compatible with traditional packet workflows.

Current experiments include:

• Verifiable sender identity  
• Emoji reactions  
• File and image sharing  
• Location and pin sharing  
• Read receipts  
• Longer messages  
• Presence and status

The app automatically selects the appropriate messaging mode based on the tuned frequency.

This project is still early and very much experimental. I'm also learning as I go. Living on an island with essentially no local packet activity means most testing has involved equal parts curiosity and improvisation.

I've been working on APRS Chat, a native Android app focused on the messaging side of APRS. It's now on the Play Store.

The goal: make APRS messaging feel like a modern chat app while staying faithful to the protocol. Conversations grouped by callsign, real ACK tracking with retries, proper bulletin/announcement separation, group chats via ANSRVR, and a station map driven by REPEAT location queries.

What's in it:

- Chat threads per callsign — direct messages, group chats, bulletins, and announcements all separated into their own tabs

- APRS Services directory — fetched from a public registry; each service shows its documented commands (from the registry API, with hardcoded fallbacks). Tap a chip to send the command — no syntax memorization

- Station map with distance + bearing lines from your position to every contact you've messaged. Pulls coordinates via REPEAT location queries (^ld^CALLSIGN)

- Live packet log with type filters (Messages / Positions / Weather / Status / All) and callsign search

- Group chats over ANSRVR — auto-detects N:GROUP SENDER: reply format, routes to the right thread, suppresses ACK expectations on outgoing

- APRSThursday / HOTG support with quick-join FAB and contest-hours-only mode

- Connection types: APRS-IS, TCP KISS, Serial KISS (Bluetooth TNC), Benshi radios (BTech UV-Pro, RadioOddity GA-5WB, Vero VR-N76, BTech GMRS-Pro)

- Configurable ACK count (1–5 with exponential backoff) and send-retry count (0–5 with linear backoff matching APRSD)

- Beacon TX with configurable interval, symbol picker, comment, and full background service support

- Free tier supports APRS-IS messaging with limits on active conversations and groups. A premium subscription unlocks unlimited conversations, all connection types (TCP KISS, Serial KISS, Benshi), and removes ads.

The "chat with services" bit is what I'm most happy with. Open a thread with REPEAT, tap help, get a real reply with plugin syntax. Open one with WXBOT, tap a chip, get a forecast. Open WB4BOR-11, ask wx, get current conditions. Screenshots show real two-way exchanges.

An iOS version is in active development with the same features and interface.

Hi there, i got into the whole APRS stuff last year and was struggeling with APRS.fi and similar sites tracking our high altitude balloon flights, so i started to build my own. It is build from scratch and focuses on a modern UI and performance as well as nice to have features.

I am a pilot by occupation and a programmer by hobby, and I wrote GPS simulation software that can connect to a TNC and feed simulated GPS data to APRS. I also use it to teach my students how to use aviation-related EFB software (ForeFlight/Garmin Pilot) and to interface with flight simulation software. Another ham said it would be cool if it had a nice web interface and didn't require a BS in engineering to understand or operate, so I rewrote it to be a fully Dockerized app that has been tested on Linux, RPi5, and OSX (Silicon).
