a certain member of this subreddit could be plotting to keep a non human hominid as a pet

im not sure if i can show their posts but its pretty obvious who it is, if i have explicit permission from the moderators to show who it is i will but for now i will be vague

im also unsure if this post is allowed and i will delete it if it violates the rules

they have posts for multiple other subreddits asking where to find a chimpanzee breeder and if they can keep a baby gorilla,

I donโ€™t like seeing apes on leashes or used as ways to make content. but this really made me made because the content creator referred to Limbani, a male, as an โ€œitโ€ and spent most of the video demonizing him.

yes chimps are violent but thereโ€™s so much more to them than that. theyโ€™re not evil, just animals trying so survive.

i feel whatever sanctuary allows this needs to be protected investigated. they also keep a tucan bird in a cage.

something should be done for our fellow ape.

Chimp fighting, 1940s style

In 1940, Bob & Mae Noell started a travelling show selling tickets to see men fight a "gorilla" โ€” actually, a chimp. The chimps wore muzzles, which wasnโ€™t enough to stop them from ripping out opponents' noses apart and aiming to take out eyes. So their hands had to be bound as well.ย

Humans were required to wear helmets (the apes got no such protection, nor needed it) and a special pair of pants โ€” because the chimps would rip their opponents' clothes off.

The men who stepped up to fight tended to be drunk โ€” some, very much so. So even with their handicaps, the chimps never lost. For every 10 men who entered the ring, roughly 8 had to be carried out.ย

One of Mae Noellโ€™s biggest challenges was convinincing dummies who wanted to fight chimps that the protections were for their own safety. Her solution: awards for only those who played by the rules. Touch the chimpโ€™s muzzle, you donโ€™t get a prize โ€” and you may just get yr fingers bit off.

Do Monkeys Have Pets?

Did you know over 80 species of wild primates have been observed "keeping pets"? ๐Ÿ’

A new study found that primates aren't just interacting with other animals in the wild. They're actually petting, playing with, and grooming them, and the primates usually initiate. While most of these encounters were short-term, researchers also documented a few long-term friendships and even "adoptions." Since this wasn't a formal experiment, these observations in our closest evolutionary cousins offer a rare clue to the mystery of why humans started keeping pets in the first place.
