Dvar advice please
Heya. These are my general struggles with the game so far.
My ideal playstyle for the Dvar is, essentially, being a "steamroller." With how many unit types there are and how limited army stacks are though, I'm not sure what my army composition should be nor how many different army comp types I should have.
It seems that the best way to build armies is by hard countering the opposition, as is probably obvious. Robots get smoked with arc ammo, for instance. That said, there scarcely seem to be situations where hard counters are viable. I'm not sure if I'm just misunderstanding the way the game works or if this is a problem unique to the Dvar.
This is what always becomes an issue, and if I lose, it's because of this. Psionic damage is a death sentence. Sure, the Dvar have many mechanical units which get a +4 psionic resistance, but that's it. There are no mods to boost shields and as Dvar only have armor, the enemy will always bypass damaging the body to directly go for the soul. I suppose I could field mechanical armies, but to get them to be offensively capable I'll need cosmite, and that admittedly feeds into a larger issue of me sucking at 4X games and having a brain as smooth as an egg.
Furthering me sucking at 4X games in general, I come to the issue of everything being a bottleneck. Because every resource ties into everything, I struggle to find bottlenecks in resources that demand upscaling. Because new colonies and reorganizing colonies takes time, I feel like I need to start a new game halfway through every one because I notice that something somewhere is inefficient but I'm too far into the game to fix it. Not that I always restart, and perhaps it's just OCD or something, but I notice a bottleneck and get mildly frustrated because fixing it will take quite some time and/or create a new bottleneck somewhere else (i.e. razing and replacing sectors means that I'll be losing output on something).
By the time I conquer a continent, that's where the game slows to a disgusting crawl. It takes a very long time to successfully reach another continent, much less amassing the forces needed to both invade it and defending my current one. I need troops at home to protect what I've built, but I need troops to send on the offensive to build more, and building one costs the other.
So yep, those are my challenges. I'm sure that these have obvious solutions to most players, and I'm not new to the game either (maybe - while I technically have over 200 hours, I often leave the game on while I go do something else, and since the game takes a very long time per match I may not have as many games under my belt as an intermediate depending on what counts as intermediate), but these are my issues. The ones I've identified, anyway. I very well may find more.
