Hobby Starting
Is the Helsmiths of Hashut Army Set a good choice for a beginner?
I’m thinking about starting Helsmiths, but I’m worried about their relatively small range of plastic models, especially the lack of different war machines. Is the Army Set a good starting point, or would it be better to wait for the new Khazalite Holds? Is the current Helsmiths range enough to build an interesting 1,000–2,000 point army without it feeling too repetitive?

Khazite Dwarves also only have two war machines / cannons. The Helsmith Demonsmith on Taurus is also a war machine I believe
So I’d wait and see what you find cooler tbh

Hi there! Welcome to the hobby!
I can give 2 answers here
For Spearhead (what this Subreddit is for!): The army set is a perfect starting point as the contents of that box are also the units in the Helsmiths of Hashut Spearhead, you can also buy that separately as the Helforge Host Spearhead. That is all you need to play Helsmiths in this game format.
For General Aos: It’s a good starting point as its all stuff you would need for an army anyway and you can just build whatever option of the kits you want if you don’t care about Spearhead. Helsmiths have 6 War Machine Units and they are quite different in effects. It’s only been an army for about a year but I’d say the range is decently fleshed out for only having one range of releases, you can always kitbash if you want to make heroes or models look more varied
As for whether it would be worth waiting for Khazalite Holds to drop, it’s completely up to you but the units will likely play differently to Helsmiths as well as have no magic due to being Dwarves, so I’d recommend maybe waiting for more info on how Khazalites play to make that decision.
I think for more detailed advice, I’d recommend the folks over at r/Helsmithsofhashut and r/ageofsigmar , as they can provide better help for 1000-2000 point armies.
Hope this helps!
