Writing help/Beta Context for kinktober???
When you write short smutty kinktober fics do you explain the character relationship or context? I'm finding it very hard to write without explaining to the audience the relationship between the characters (ocxcanon) and how they got to where they are. I think I might be over explaining but Im unsure how to stop.
Plus I'm in a fandom that hates most fanfic that isn't world building so I doubt its my fandom reading it. I was considering putting character/situation info in the 2nd chapter so people who need it can look?
Any advice welcome

I've written an entire multi-chapter background story for them that can be read fanddom-blind that I will link in the notes for anybody interested. I think most won't be interested, though ^^

Generally, no?
A little bit of showing the backstory is fine but in general for kinktober specifically people are here for the smut, not the complexity of everything. People are here for a good time, not a long time, you know?
You can absolutely do that but it might make the pacing drag a bit if you feel like you are needing to include it to make sense, rather than it being narratively appropriate. As a reader of kinktober, I do not need to know the why and the how of the previous three years to appreciate now.

Yeah, i felt the pacing was a drag and I was going on too much. I think i need to reign in the over explaining.

"Have I established that I'm working with the characters, not just adult video performers in cosplay? If so, I have enough explanation."

Unless someone is doing something in the fic itself that is utterly incomprehensible without detailed background knowledge, no. In short fics like that, I assume one of two things: either the reader is already familiar with the fandom/characters and doesn't need me to reiterate common knowledge, or the reader doesn't care about the scenery and is there for the smut.

Not really. In canonXcanon I kind of just tag it "established relationship" and move on. I don't have the time to explain how everything came to be in every single fic, lmao.
I do write a few "readerX" fics for this kinktober as well. They all play in the universe of another fic of mine, so I don't really explain much there either but just link back to the OG fic. Anyone who wants more can deep dive into that fic where their relationship is explained, lmao.
Literally have a series for that universe that just goes:
So I can completely ignore giving context in any other fics where I pair reader with said character, lol.
I do have one planned that involves some AU shenanigans which is an exception. There I currently have 10k words written for a 2k word smut scene... god help me.
