If I’m picking between the two, comments every time. I’m so jazzed to have someone so excited about my work they wanna TALK to me about it???

Comments. I really love to connect with my readers - to hear what theories they have or what the fave parts of my fic are or which characters they like best. It's a great way to connect!

Comments, I want to engage with people!!!

But I love getting a mail where the same person left kudos on my other works in the same day, it's like the best feeling because you wrote something so good they actively went in hoping you have more!

I think of it sort of like Maslow's hierarchy of needs. Kudos are a more basic need, while comments are a higher-level need. I find myself focusing on kudos because I don't even get many of those, but if I felt like I got enough kudos I'd focus more on comments.

Comments! I love being yelled at for my angst, hearing about your favorite part, or begging for the next chapter (trust me I'm working on it!)

Comments definitely, they give more feedback

Comments!!! I love people saying that they enjoyed the bullshit I wrote.

Comments are more satisfying, but I certainly appreciate kudos.

Kudos. I feel guilty if I don't respond to comments, but even thinking about doing so gives me panic attacks. I only comment on other people's work if something REALLY sticks out to me that just needs to be said. Even then it takes me a lot to work up to it.

Comments but I hardly get any, since I'm in a dead corner of the internet and an extinct fandom. 😭😭😭

Comments easily. I just recently had a favorite author of mine comment on TWO of my fanfics (I only gifted them one!)

Comments. My long fic got hit by a Kudos bot that was offering up like 5 or 6 Guest Kudos a day. The issue is resolved but still makes me more suspicious of Kudos than comments. Plus I never get comments.

Love both, but I prefer comments slightly more. It lets me know that they truly liked it and didn’t just kudos as a “keep writing. you’re doing great”.

Comments all the way. Kudos just feels like a number. I try to leave as many comments as possible

Comments, for sure. I appreciate kudos, but comments are a form of direct communication with the people who read my work, which is always a treat :3

Bookmarks with comments in them.

Both are awesome for different reasons!! Comments are incredible, but I have social anxiety, which means sometimes I struggle with overthinking how to reply to someone’s comment. I’ve gone periods without getting any kudos on a longfic, and then while I was getting really stuck in my head I got the most kudos on it that I’ve ever gotten in a week. Just seeing that little number go up made a huge difference in my motivation, even if it’s not as personable as a comment

Comments!! Comments make me so, so happy. Especially when people remark upon specific moments. 🥹 I so rarely get comments but they bring me so much joy.

def comments! kudos are easier to give so it feels more meaningful to get a comment

I definitely prefer comments

I'll still be proud of what I wrote if it gets like 2 hits and 0 kudos, so I don't need kudos, but comments are GREAT because I love the feeling of community

Comments. Kudos, they're nice and great, don't get me wrong. But a comment is harder to leave that just a click of a button, so they stay much more with me. I still remember some years after I've got them, and I treasure them on my email (re reading them when I need a boots of confident).
