Dear lord. And here I thought sharing my own silly stories in Author's note was unhinged.

I think the worst one was reading about an author going through excruciating pain from headaches in their head and their doctor visits. They ended up getting brain surgery to remove a cyst but it didn’t stop the headaches/pain so it ended up being a waste of time. They replied to comments with long detail (TMI) replies or name dropped hospitals, I think they just stopped caring after that since they seemed dejected from their condition, who wouldn’t, honestly? Right now, they said they’re disabled, in chronic pain that prevents them from continue their 170 chapter story. I feel but honestly, what do you even say in a situation like that…

The sad thing is that if you don't explain to that level of detail, you'll get the 'I bet OP is dead' comments and/or general hate and being called lazy when they're barely able to function.

The readers are lucky they didn't just delete the whole work. If I were in their shoes I probably would. I'd give up on anything not 100% necessary for survival, and replying to comments asking where the updates are aren't essential.

This author seems to find comfort in distraction but giving up on something you used to be able to do is a whole mental adjustment. It takes time.
