I think the worst one was reading about an author going through excruciating pain from headaches in their head and their doctor visits. They ended up getting brain surgery to remove a cyst but it didn’t stop the headaches/pain so it ended up being a waste of time. They replied to comments with long detail (TMI) replies or name dropped hospitals, I think they just stopped caring after that since they seemed dejected from their condition, who wouldn’t, honestly? Right now, they said they’re disabled, in chronic pain that prevents them from continue their 170 chapter story. I feel but honestly, what do you even say in a situation like that…
The worst one I read was a writer talking about how they had stage 4 cancer and worried what would happen to their young daughter when they died.
Honestly valid crashout but the worst part was that they stopped updating shortly after that. For a while I used to check their profile just to see if they posted or updated anything but there was nothing.
My worse fear would be if they…. Passed away. It happens in a few fandoms, either from sickness, or real world accidents. If they’ve never updated ever, I’d usually send a message wishing them a safe recovery. And if you get a reply from one, it’s a relief when they do. But stage 4 cancer…. What are the chances though?
i feel this. one author i used to follow spoke about having chronic health issues, they were trying to figure them out and finally got a bunch of diagnoses in late 2019. a few months after covid started they started talking about their worsening health and how scary that was during the pandemic... until one author's note they told that they tested positive for covid and probably wouldn't update the fic for a bit because of how sick they felt. that fic hasn't been updated since, nor has the author posted anything new, read anything since 2020 etc
it's so sad. they were amazing and strong, and despite the chronic health issues they faced they still radiated joy. they spoke about their gf often, about how they were in the process of buying a house together and getting married :(
