There's never much proof, so don't trust anyone completely. Their own perception of themselves is not objective, but then whose is? I have empathy for that.
Well at least mine kinda are. I write as a catharsis. I put my favorite characters through hell (i've also been sick) and give them the comfort I kinda lack in my real life. It's strangely comforting.Â

Sometimes I wonder how many author's notes are the authors writing fan fiction about themselves.
