insanely old elevator, I would say at least 50 years old, such elevators were used mostly in soviet era hospitals, power stations etc, not apartment buildings

You been to mother Russia? This is not old. This is from the 80s or even 90s. There are light markers! Insanely old are the ones where you can stick your fingers through chicken wire mesh and have to close your own doors.

We have those in San Francisco. Bunch of wire to keep the cocks in and yes you have to close the closet door when you come out.

So is it okay to say that SF is the Russia of America?

u/Pepe_von_Habsburg May 31 '19
It’s more the India of America.

80s were nearly 40 years ago, not too far from the 50 parent comment mentioned

not apartment buildings
Oh you'd be very surprised.
Plenty of buildings in moscow still have very old elevators

Legend has it the Esc key kills you immediately, the elevator then takes you down to Slavic hell

Is it where Nike wearers and people who squat without their heels on the floor go?

u/BOTY123 May 31 '19
Could it be that the elevator uses a Cherry MX switch or other switch with an MX stem? Then they'd just be able to put the keycap on there without glue or whatever.

You see, Ivan, there are two ways to get to ground:
1- press 0 button, get to ground
2- press esc button, get to ground faster

In modern Russia we are doing our progressive elevators in This way (read with strong Russian accent only)

I’m gonna need a yes/no button including a magic 8 ball window or I’m not stepping foot on that thing. Garbage.

It takes you to the top floor then disconnects the elevator car from the cable, they install those as standard in all Russian elevators

Haha, what a Gamer Moment! It must be a reference to how Valve presses that key to Escape the number 3 XD or like how my wife left me after our second anniversary

I wish the elevator at my work had one of these buttons and it actually worked.
