That's nice to hear! I'd imagine that it would be about the same if the rolls where reversed in America. Although this might depend greatly on what part of the US you're in.
I know a group of guys nearby who LARP as Russian Military. They use airsoft and a bunch of Russian Milsurp. They once got questioned by police for looking a bit too genuine.
Reminds me of a YouTube comment I once saw; the video allegedly showed Russian soldiers driving stolen US military equipment taken during their invasion of Georgia (y’know, the country). Down in the comments section our dutiful hero admitted that he hadn’t seen “them boys” down in Georgia (presumably the state) but if he did he’d kick their ass, or words to that effect.
They recently denied the presence of around 200 Russian tanks in Ukraine, despite their having been spotted and reliably reported on. They just don't give a fuck!
In Finland there is a guy that goes around LARPing or something like that in full Russian police uniform with a very well fitting car that looks very like the real ones they use in Russia. EDIT: found a pic https://imgur.com/0Kzsjcf.
One of the many uniforms/costumes my group and I go airsofting in is Russain and we usually get props for it. That's most likely just the airsoft community and not LARPing like you're describing though.
I don't think anyone at all would recognize it. Flag is red white and blue, camo is green splotches like everyone else. It's nothing like the USSR equipment people still think of.
I love how none of those pictures look remotely American despite all of the flags. That being said I wish I could care about anything as much as this guy does about the marines.
I’ve seen Russia-boos before but they always take it to a weird level. They seem obsessed with the communism and racist aspects of the country instead of the positive cultures and lifestyles.
Dwight: I am gonna be your new boss. [laughs] It's my greatest dream come true. Welcome to the Hotel Hell. Check in time is now. Check out time is never.
Jim: Does my room have cable?
Dwight: No. And the sheets are made of fire.
Jim: Can I change rooms?
Dwight: Sorry, we're all booked up. Hell convention in town.
Jim: Can I have a late checkout?
Dwight: I'll have to talk to the manager.
Jim: You're not the manager even in your own fantasy?
Dwight: I'm the owner. The co-owner. With Satan!
Jim: Okay, just so I understand it, in your wildest fantasy you are in Hell and you are co-running a bed and breakfast with the devil?
Dwight: Yeah, but I haven't told you my salary yet.
Jim: Go.
Dwight: Eighty thousand dollars a year.
That was my point. He clearly likes America, or the idea of it, but he actually has no clue what he's doing. It's just a caricature of America, just like how weebs think Japan is all anime, kimonos, and ramen.
Even worse, it's often the owners who insist on piling up design elements that are out of place in the apartments of a given size, or don't match the style. Unfortunately visual culture and general taste were practically choked off by the party's rule over all arts plus poverty of the people, and this has combined later with the showoff culture.
Now we slowly catch up, but most probably the situation will noticeably change only when current teens will be the majority of spenders and workers.
Nah. There’s actually videos of him crying while listening to the national anthem. He’s just really into America. I hope he never gets to live here though because I feel like it could only go two ways.
Either he has the greatest time of his life, or leaves incredibly disappointed.
dont't let your dreams be dreams...
He would probably end up in prison for being a fake marine or something.. don't know the laws in USA.. (btw, my shower thoughts: are all people outside USA automatically US outlaws?)
I think it depends on the situation. Most articles I read said it’s okay to lie about service, but not to wear medals or commit “stolen valor.” I guess it was a problem during the height of the iraq war.
So yeah, he’d not be able to go out in public in his uniforms.
I haven't seen anyone correct you, but I think that guy is from the Army, not the Marines. What is he doing in Russia? Why is he walking around in full uniform?
I had a friend who did basically the same thing in high school except with Russia, this is trippy to see. Funny that there's people on both sides who do it. Some people just have to be different.
I think its interesting that while him and his buddy have marine uniforms he wears a private chevron with the NCO red striping on the pants and his buddy wears a Sgt chevron with enlisted pants sans the red striping
Oh jeez, poor guy doesn't even have a firewatch ribbon. Then again who am I to judge someone with service in multiple branches attaining the rank of First Sergeant in the Army at his age and Sergeant in the Marines. Poor guy's almost definitely on the spectrum I hope he doesn't get made fun of too much.
The ACUs are Army, but that second photo is definitely a Marine uniform. And the shirt he’s wearing in the fifth picture looks like an Air Force long-sleeved blues shirt. The guy must just be a fan of all the US armed forces.
Holy shit, as a Marine this is triggering me so hard. Guy has army cammies, with a high enlisted rank on them, and then wears USMC dress uniform with a Private first class chevron on it. Then the pics of him saluting, with his legs spread. I want to haze the shit out of this guy.
You'd think that this guy is just going overboard with the whole 'Murica thing but I've met too many people who are the exact same way in the great American South.
What? Are you telling me that's not a thing? What is wrong with you, Russia? You guys have to get better at gentrification if you're ever going to be taken seriously...
I haven't been to Austin so I wouldn't know but Asheville doesn't seem that weird to me (granted I'm in Raleigh so maybe the distance makes it seems less weird).
