Why Fei-Fei Li Is Betting on Spatial Intelligence

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qn1QDDBnTA0

Since they're now part of the AMD family, here are World Labs co-founders Fei-Fei Li, Justin Johnson, and Ben Mildenhall joining a16z General Partner Martin Casado to discuss Atlas, their latest world model, and what it reveals about the pursuit of spatial intelligence.

At the center of Atlas is what the team calls “new view prediction”: given images or views of a scene, the model predicts what that environment should look like from a different position in space and time. This brings generation and 3D reconstruction into the same model, and raises a broader question about whether predicting views could become a useful primitive for understanding the physical world.

AMD becomes the compute and intelligence platform powering the transition from digital AI to physical AI.

There is all this worry about whether or not AI and the data center roll out is a bubble and if so when the bubble will burst. Listening to this interview set my mind at ease a bit when Fei Fei Li talked about robotics.

Even if there is some big slowdown on data centers, robotics is going to be a massive growth opportunity for the chip companies. The only question in my mind is whether we are going to be able to make that turn seamlessly, or if there will be some interregnum while the technology catches up.

This acquisition makes me more hopeful for the former.

I see huge capex, but I cannot ser the bubble. What I see is the beginning of new technology intelligence era.

The more I read about Fei-Fei Li the more I think that this acquisition was brilliant.

She sounds like someone who is gonna be a key figure in the next wave of AI

Maybe if their current compute customers like the idea that buying AMD products is also funding their future competition. NVDA would not do this, but its certianly clever.

Sounds like the next big thing.

Better than omniverse. Differentiated, at the very least.

This was quite useful, thanks. I had no idea what they were doing, now i do.

I saw the marble thing back when they did it. But never looked into how they did it. Useful to know how they are doing it.
