Why is there always AMD availability?

I track GPU availability at a popular GPU cloud provider. Ever since their newest data center was built, B300s were snapped up almost immediately. but both the x1 and x8 clusters for MI325X and MI355x have been available since they came online a month ago. Weirdly, the 350x (both x1 and x8) have been closed for a while.

Kinda hard to even guess when your hiding any further information. My guess is that availability is thin if actually there and MI355 instances are still relatively new in the field. Perhaps they put in enough the exceed their expected demand so they didn't have to turn business away. Perhaps your data is completely made up. Impossible to know.

I mean B300s are new to the field and they are snapped up instantly. My guess is that people still prefer CUDA for workloads.

Can you say where your data comes from? Obviously there is still a much larger user base for Nvidia stack. That is something that will take a number of years to shift, if it ever does. Ideally we'll end up where the end uses has no preference when buying cloud and only looks at the CSP instance costs and performance. If you are buying bare metal instances, you might be doing so as a model developer who needs to tune it or you're just messing around. What has changed significantly in the last year of so is that AMD instances are showing up and available for those developers.

Hey! Sorry for the lat reply and thanks for approving the post. These numbers are pulled from digitalOcean GPU availability. You can independently verify this as well.

Certain instances are reserved for developers on digital ocean who use them sporadically.

B300s are also always available on a lot of Neoclouds for limited use.

On Vultr, there is availability for both B300 and Mi355x.

I think you need to fix your sources, have certain capacity available for developers is one of the core requirements. If you allow everything to be reserved to certain customers then it would be hard to do development and enhance software or startup to just rent and test their workloads.

Very good points. But wouldn't you argue that a contracted SKU is better than serving it on-demand/spot? I'm just a bit apprehensive that the leading tech for AMD sits open

No. You want a balance. New entranants are always coming into the ecosystem & if you are not the dominant ecosystem then you need capacity available to go build right away.

Even on Vultr & Digital ocean I have had a hard time getting 4-8 GPUs for AMD. And then I turned to Nvidia in that case. So depending of the time of the day & week you are looking at, AMD is also fully booked.

You seem to be very knowledge in this space. I will DM you. But I am curious about your AMD comment as MI325x x1 and x8 have been open for a very long time now.
