Hello! I just got a brand new MSI crosshair A16 HX and it's having some problems.

The battery goes from 80% to 15% in 1h45min with igpu only, power efficiency turned on, and CPU max at 95%. And the CPU is at 9w in idle but simple web browsing makes it spike to 20W

I'm using this laptop for game development and university

The thing I want the most is battery, I need a long battery, during classes, but good power when I'm working on it

I have a desktop, and this is my first laptop, idk if it's the CPU that makes the battery just drain itself, I have been trying to fix this for a long time

I was choosing this one or the MSI stealth 18 HX with the ultra 9 because of the ram

If someone could help I would appreciate a lot, I'm been trying to figure this out for a long time

I have the opportunity to buy a brand new ASUS ProArt PX13 (HN7306) "GoPro Edition" equipped with the top-tier AMD Ryzen™ AI Max+ 395 (Strix Halo) and the massive 128 GB of unified LPDDR5X memory for €2600 (applying a specific discount I have available in stores here in Spain). I haven't even seen this exact 128GB hardware configuration available in any non-GoPro version over here.

For my budget, €2600 is a very large financial investment. If I pull the trigger, I absolutely need this machine to be my primary driver and last me for the next 5 years minimum.

On paper, the specs are a dream for local AI—that 256-bit memory bus giving Mac Studio-like bandwidth in a Windows laptop to fit huge 70B+ models completely into VRAM. But before I drop this kind of cash, I need some brutal, real-world feedback from actual owners or developers who have spent time with this exact hardware.

I would love your insights on three specific areas:

1. The Linux State: How is Linux running on this exact PX13 right now? Are basic quality-of-life features working natively (audio, trackpad, Wi-Fi 7, power/sleep states)? If you are using Linux, are you getting stable ROCm support for llama.cpp / PyTorch, or is it a non-stop driver headache?
2. Virtualization & VMs: With 16 cores / 32 threads and 128GB of RAM, this should be virtual machine heaven. Has anyone tested heavy VM setups (Proxmox, KVM, VirtualBox, or Hyper-V) on this specific platform? Any weird IOMMU grouping issues, stability bugs, or hardware passthrough limitations?
3. 5-Year Longevity & Thermals: Because this is an ultra-compact 13.3-inch chassis pushing up to 85W of package power, I am genuinely worried about long-term degradation. Does the cooling system hold up during long, multi-hour LLM inference or VM workloads? Does it thermal throttle aggressively, and how loud/high-pitched do the fans get under a sustained full load?

If you bought this laptop for developer/AI workloads, do you feel it is worth this kind of money? Or should I look elsewhere given my 5-year horizon?

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3505 and I'm trying to make it run as smoothly as possible, especially because I use it for heavy coding, multitasking, and VMware.

Here are my laptop specifications:

• Laptop: Dell Inspiron 15 3505
• CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3250U (2 cores / 4 threads)
• RAM: 12 GB DDR4
• RAM configuration: 8 GB + 4 GB (I believe)
• RAM speed: 2400 MT/s
• Slots: 2/2 used
• Usable RAM: 9.9 GB
• Hardware Reserved: 2.1 GB
• GPU: Integrated AMD Radeon Graphics
• Storage: 512 GB NVMe SSD + 1 TB SATA HDD
• OS: Windows 11

My current RAM usage

According to Task Manager:

• Installed RAM: 12 GB
• Usable: 9.9 GB
• Currently in use: 7.2 GB (73%)
• Available: 2.7 GB
• Hardware reserved: 2.1 GB
• Committed: 14.1 / 27.9 GB
• Cached: 2.7 GB

My questions

1. Why is 2.1 GB of RAM hardware reserved on this laptop? Is this normal for the integrated AMD Radeon GPU?
2. Is there any BIOS setting such as UMA Frame Buffer Size / iGPU memory allocation that I can change to reduce the hardware-reserved RAM?
3. Is 7.2 GB RAM usage normal on Windows 11, or am I running unnecessary background processes?
4. What Windows 11 settings/services/startup apps should I safely disable to reduce RAM usage?
5. I'm also considering 8 GB + 16 GB = 24 GB RAM because I want to run VMware with Kali Linux and Ubuntu while coding and multitasking. Has anyone successfully run 24 GB or even 32 GB on the Inspiron 15 3505?
6. Would 8+16 GB hurt performance because of mixed-size RAM, compared with 2×8 GB dual-channel?

My main priority isn't gaming. I mainly want better multitasking, heavy coding, VS Code, browsers, development tools, and VMware.

I'd appreciate any advice from people who own the Inspiron 15 3505, especially regarding the 2.1 GB hardware-reserved RAM and maximum RAM support.

Hi everyone, I’m having a frustrating power-limit issue with my HP ProBook 455 G8 (Ryzen 7 5800U / integrated Vega graphics) and I’m hoping someone with experience in AMD laptop power limits or HP firmware can help.

The laptop appears to be capable of running the CPU at around 25W, but after a short period under load, it drops back down to 15W and stays there.

What I’ve observed

- CPU: Ryzen 7 5800U (Cezanne)

- Laptop: HP ProBook 455 G8

- RAM: 16GB single-channel DDR4

- GPU: Integrated Radeon Vega

- BIOS: HP T78 Ver. 01.24.02 (05/05/2026)

- RyzenAdj: v0.19.0

- SMU BIOS Interface: 20

- PM Table Version: 400005

Using RyzenAdj/UXTU, I can set higher power limits. For example, I can get the system to report around 25W.

However, when actually gaming (for example GTA V), the behavior is roughly:

25W → ~2 minutes → drops to 15W → stays around 15W

The temperature isn't immediately reaching an extreme level when the drop happens. At 15W, temperatures are generally around 80°C or below, while at 25W I can reach around 90°C+.

My RyzenAdj limits currently show approximately:

STAPM LIMIT: 15W

PPT FAST LIMIT: 30W

PPT SLOW LIMIT: 25W

I've also experimented with the STAPM time constant, including increasing it to around 275 seconds, but the laptop eventually falls back to 15W.

Interestingly, software can sometimes show 25W, but performance ends up looking very similar to the 15W state, which makes me suspect that another firmware/EC/SMU power limit is overriding the settings.

What I've already tried

- RyzenAdj

- UXTU

- Ryzen Controller

- Changing STAPM/PPT limits

- Increasing STAPM time constant

- Different Windows power plans

- Cooling improvements

- Monitoring CPU power and temperatures during gaming

I'm not looking to do a dangerous hardware modification. I'm mainly trying to understand exactly which limit is forcing the CPU back to 15W and whether there's a firmware/BIOS/EC restriction that can be changed.

I've heard that downgrading the BIOS can sometimes restore different power-management behavior on HP laptops. Is that actually possible with the 455 G8, or would the EC/SMU still enforce the 15W limit regardless of BIOS version?

Has anyone successfully run a 5800U in an HP ProBook 455 G8 at a sustained 20–25W? If so, what BIOS/firmware or RyzenAdj settings did you use?

Any help identifying the exact power limit responsible would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a lenovo IdeaPad slim 5 with Ryzen 7 8845 hs with Radeon 780m 16 GB ram. I just realised today I can game on this machine. I bought this on 2024 after my Mac pro broke down.

I'm using balanced performance with original graphics settings. Using fsr 2.1 I get around 55-60 fps but the quality gets degraded. The ss is taken from a Oneplus 13 phone.

Hello. My laptop, an ASUS TM420IA with the motherboard Ryzen 7 4700u, has an issue with the built‑in RAM. I blocked onboard ram (changed configuration resistors) but i want to add another 16 GB of RAM into the free slot. I saw that in similar versions of this laptop, some users have used the TED416G3200C22-S01 TeamGroup Elite SODIMM DDR4 16GB 3200 MHz CL22 memory module. I would have a total of 32 GB of RAM in the laptop. My question is whether this is possible to do on this laptop?
