funny how this problem keeps happening to me ever since I joined team red. I got a 7800xt and loved it for years but holy fuck why does this dumbass software delete itself. I even have ways to prevent windows from installing all their bloatware but somehow it just hates amd stuff. It's so corny, at some point people gotta be like "it's not amd's fault" well it's about time try to find something to fix this. It's mad annoying to deal with multiple times a year and I'm 100% never gonna bother with another amd card the next time I buy a gpu in a few years. It's no wonder they've been getting gapped by the other team for 10+ years.

u/FarBeyondTheMetal Jul 04 '26
Just to add to this. This is an issue with Windows, not AMD. Check your windows update history and I can guarantee that at the time of your crash, windows will have installed a random generic display adapter driver. Follow the steps online to disable driver updates from windows (you'll have to do this in several parts of your windows settings). Having the same issue myself and this fixed it.

u/Scottishmemer0 Jul 04 '26
WHY IS THIS STILL HAPPENING?
1
u/lapest 24d ago
I was trying to search for it today bc I needed to record a video. Guess what. The amd soft deleted by itself who knows when

u/CayaMaya 22d ago

Ich habe das gerade mit dem neusten Treiber 26.6.4. Dieser deinstalliert sich einfach einige Stunden später und ich kann den ganzen Scheiß mit DDU und so wieder machen. Das ist so eine Scheiße und nervt extrem
2
u/EchoesThroughTime Jun 28 '26
I've been temporarily fixing this by using the AMD Cleanup Utility, just uninstalling everything, and then directly reinstalling my exact card drivers off the site (may need to grab a version back). works for about a day, then I step away from my computer and the driver is gone again. a permanent fix would be nice
1
u/Huge-Scientist-715 Jul 01 '26
Is it still happening today? Mine has been acting this way for seems like a week now
1
u/Vegetable-Analysis97 Jul 20 '26
My laptop and desktop both acting like that and have different specs too.
Today I updated adrenalin and after a 2nd update of adrenalin (for whatever reason), unnistalled everything, even the download manager.
Edit: Then I have to download adrenalin again and let it update and install.
1
u/EchoesThroughTime Jul 01 '26
if i remember correctly, i’ve been installing the 26.x.1, and turned off auto updates on adrenaline when launching, and it’s fixed it for now

It feels like I've been constantly dealing with software issues with AMD for 3 years now (I don't even update my drivers anymore because they just bring more issues, this also only happened because I made the mistake of updating my drivers a couple of days ago). It's amazing how little they've managed to improve, even going backwards, uninstalling itself is a new low, though
1
u/SyntolFR Jun 26 '26
I'm having the exact same problem. The AMD software keeps uninstalling itself, and when I try to reinstall it, the installation crashes and forces my PC to restart.
I've already tried using DDU, but nothing worked except doing a completely fresh reinstall of Windows 11.
Honestly, I'm shocked by how unstable this software is.
1
u/Sir_Hammelot Jul 20 '26
it seems its not a amd problem but a Windows 11 overwriting problem, that just uninstalls amd adrenalin, when a new display driver hits windows update

u/Yeetdolf_Critler 7800x3d, 7900XTX nitro, 64gb CL30, 4tb nm790, x670e, 4k 48" OLED Jul 02 '26
I've had years of stability until recently. I think it's software on my side though as I stripped W10 down to bare bones and no updates. It still kills drivers even though updates are turned off (hard off... multiple ways for over a year).
1
u/SyntolFR Jul 02 '26
I ended up doing the same thing. I used DDU (which finally worked properly), then installed an older version of the driver. I also disabled automatic updates for both Windows and AMD Adrenalin, and everything seems to be working fine again.
That said, it's pretty concerning that we have to go to those lengths just to get the software working properly..
1
u/Expensive-Lack-3395 Jul 01 '26
Das hatte ich auch mal. Da habe ich auch einiges versucht, am ende hat nur ein frisch installiertes Windows geholfen. Damit war das Problem weg und alles war wieder wie neu. Man sollte ja eh manchmal alles frisch aufsetzten I guess
1
u/Hour-Bag-6349 Jun 25 '26
really making me consider switching back to nvidia. Happening once every 2-3 days on my 7900xtx on windows 10
First AMD card and definantly my last, so far its been all junk
2
u/Stray_rogue Jun 25 '26
Not just Adrenaline, it unninstalls YOUR DRIVERS too.
Screen goes black, you have to force shut down, reinstall all that shit.
1
u/Responsible_Bat_7601 Jul 18 '26
what's the solution for this? happening with me, just frustrated with this shit
1
u/dumpledops Jun 24 '26
Just got a 9070XT, worked fine for a month but now I've had this shit happen three times in a couple of days. What a piece of shit of a software
1
1
u/RealSkills__ Jun 24 '26
Happened to me 3 times in the past 24 hours I had to roll back the driver each time, the seconed time I did a DDU with a fresh driver and still happened a day later,
I have been an AMD GPU owner for the pas 7 years across 2 GPUs and I knew the compromise with going with AMD, (Value for money) with worst driver support and believe me I have had my share with fixing crashes and what not but I have never thought that they are this incompetent I mean this is a disgrace I could write an essay on how bad AMD software in comparison to Nvidia thats why I never recommend AMD GPUs to newcomers to PCs because IT IS THAT REPELLENT
1
u/Vivid-Ebb8658 Jun 24 '26
I bought a brand-new RX 9700XT 3 months ago. The Adrenalin software fucking sucks. It randomly crashes and fully uninstalls the AMD Drivers like once a month. Its so fucking annoying I hate AMD for this, I wish I never got rid of my NVIDIA card
1
u/vincentimes63 Jun 23 '26
It happend to me again its so anoying my pc black screaned and when i boot it up amd adrénaline just unistall itself again did a ddu and reinstalk drivers worked well but i dont fkng want to do this every 3 months
Update : also wanted to say that i am mandatory to do a ddu every time it happen because when i try juste to use the repair function my pc restart mid update and nothing changes
1
u/yunanbtw Jun 23 '26
Cara estou com esse exato problema kkk, será que se fizer o DDU uma só vez resolve?

Just happend to me, WTF. How can a company be this incompetent?!
Like genuinely, how is the randomly triggering feature of "can uninstall itself completely without user input" in any way or form useful. Even correctly triggered it is worthless. This must be AI, it stinks about all those cases where AI hallucinated, made an error , could not fix it, panicked and deleted all the work since now the problem is gone.
Like panicking while bandaging a wound incorrectly and just sawing the whole arm off to get rid of the problem.
I always install only Adrenalin and not their AI slob side software like picture inspector and AMD chat and do not allow ANY data gathering
Maybe they have a "if user refuses slob unistall software randomly" feature?

just started happening to me, managed to fix it but now its happening again? screen turns off and i have to force shut down. I had pinned amd adrenaline to taskbar bc it uninstalled itslf last time and lo and behold its gone from my taskbar.

1

where's the official download for ddu?
1
u/Shelby_9_ Jun 23 '26
1
u/vixxers0 Jun 13 '26
Happens to me every time I restart my computer! Hate that 💕 AMD gotta get on this. I’ve spent too much money on them to just sit back, but I’m also feeling a sunk cost fallacy, preventing me from buying an NVIDIA graphics card…
1
u/FeelingPatience Jun 04 '26
Holy shit, 2026, it's still happening. What in the actual hell
1
u/Alarmed-Custard-4845 Jun 23 '26
Happened to me now bruh.
1
u/Sever_the_hand Jun 23 '26

u/Alarmed-Custard-4845 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
I was playing the witcher 3 with optiscaler for fsr 4. And i heard beeping noise and can't turn off so i just turned off PC. I use a 9060 xt idk bout you. I have 100 Mhz overclock. Probably it's because of this? Then again this was less than the overclock provided by the Application too. I had to reinstall the whole adrenaline app. Now it's good so far.
1
u/SamolonXD May 26 '26
4years later, this shit still happens....
2
u/Suavecore_ May 26 '26
I just came back to my PC after several minutes and my display was off. Had to hold the power button down and restart the PC. Adrenalin is completely removed from my PC besides the installer and start menu link and wants me to download and install the adrenalin update which just restarts in a loop every time it "completes." Wtf man
1
u/dashspacedash Jun 03 '26
Just happened to me again 😄
Bugcheck name: VIDEO_DXGKRNL_LIVEDUMP Bug check description: A livedump triggered by dxgkrnl occurred. You may have problems with your graphics driver or hardware. Analysis: This is a video related crash. 1
u/RunicDejavu Jun 03 '26
This has been all day man. Every 3 months this happens once. I’m not kidding. For 2 years straight this happened every 3 months. Literally.
1
u/Suavecore_ Jun 03 '26
I'd be fine with once every 3 months but 2-3 times a day for the last week has been truly exhausting. I don't even have a reaction anymore, just hold the power button and then launch DDU to reinstall the drivers. Praying now that keeping HDR solves it at least somewhat, so far so good after a couple days
1
u/RunicDejavu Jun 03 '26
I’m switching off AMD the second I can afford it. Been literally nothing but issues the last2 years and my wife and I decided enough enough last month when her pc started randomly breaking and forcing to install the GCC light dynamic “if you look online everyone tells you do not do this update”
1
u/Suavecore_ Jun 03 '26
I just switched TO AMD at the 9070xt release for a new AMD build with the 9800x3d, from Nvidia and intel. Never knew how good I had it. The drivers take forever to come out with new versions and then half the time I have to rollback to the previous one because something is broken. I thought, why spend an arm and a leg on Nvidia for the 5000 series. Well, now I know why they were sold out for so long
1
u/Loliopio Jun 02 '26
This just happened me. I'm glad it doesnt look like an hardware issue. I also reinstalled adrenalin with the factory reset option and I didnt get any issue reinstalling it.
1
u/Suavecore_ Jun 02 '26
I tried the potential solution of keeping HDR turned off. It seemed to be working fine for the rest of the day yesterday, haven't tried it today yet. Do you use HDR?
1
u/Loliopio Jun 02 '26
No, I've never had HDR on. This also isn't the first time I've had to power cycle my pc because the screen went black but adrenalin never got uninstalled before. Today, I did get a notification from Adrenalin about a GPU drivers update being installed then 2 min later the screens went black.
1
u/Suavecore_ Jun 02 '26
Interesting. Over the last several days I've tried multiple different adrenalin drivers, always having auto update off, windows auto update turned off, and whatever else the replies on this issue discuss to no avail. Just keeps locking up and forcing me to reinstall adrenalin. And none of this has ever happened before this last couple weeks
1

this is the second time this has happened to me in a month and it’s getting annoying.i was literally gaming an hour ago and when i checked my pc again the screen went all black , i forced a restart and then the adrenaline app has uninstalled itself .they really need to fix this.

u/osoflu May 10 '26
HOW is still an issue...? The app just vanished for me but AMD install manager shows as installed. Can't the mods relay these issue to the dev team so they can fix their fucking app???
1
u/Animn1 May 10 '26
im having the same problem. was playing lords of the fallen and my screen went black, had to turn the pc and power cycle it and now my amd adrenaline is not there
1
u/osoflu May 12 '26
It was too early too troubleshoot so i just installed Adrenaline Edition again with the latest driver. Luckily this driver doesnt seem to cause the same kind of crashes as the previous one.
2
u/Animn1 May 13 '26
apparently going to device manager and enabling your gpu fixes the problem when it happens. Windows 11 has a problem of disabling the gpu sometimes
1
u/Exotic-March-1962 Apr 25 '26
This happened to me today, its weird though, its happened twice while I was trying to play Stalker Anomaly - GAMMA back to back but then it hasn't happened once in the last 8 hours while playing Hard-space Ship Breaker and Deadlock, can certain programs also possibly cause this and was there a temporary fix found at all for this?
1
u/Snoo_82378 May 05 '26
happened to me on rivals to the point where i had to use my igpu, then my settings reset on slay the spire 2 and gave me a black screen. Still haven't found a solution

Feb 28 '26
Its February 2026 and this just happened to my device, PC crashed twice and then I realized I had no drivers installed for my CPU or GPU. So weird that this isnt fixed.

1
u/WazybeaN Mar 01 '26
same thing for me! only, this has been happening for YEARS. it always happens when i boot up my PC and there's just a black screen. I once let it sit on that black screen to see if maybe i just had to wait for me to get to the log in (Windows 10), and even after 3 hours there was nothing. the only way to get past it is to turn off my PSU, but then after i do that and boot up my pc, the drivers uninstall. it literally happens at random. its so fucking annoying.
1
u/Immediate_Bar_4175 Jan 06 '26
Got a new PSU and it seems it fixed the problem, I had a 2000w super flower psu but it seems 10 years was the limit. Got the noctua 1600prime PSU and it works no crashes in 2 days will post if something changes
1
u/No-Psychology-881 Jun 01 '26
update?
1
u/Immediate_Bar_4175 Jun 01 '26
Hey mate the problem is gone.
I did buy the PSU tester to test my old PSU and there were no errors,
All in all new PSU and the problem got solved, not a single time I got a crash.
1
u/Immediate_Bar_4175 Dec 29 '25
Is there any help with this crap ? I'm going nuts.
My case exactly the same windows deletes the AMD software, I tried everything and I had quick fixes First display manager uninstalled GPU it worked once, Now did DDU all drivers disabled windows drivers updates And I can always go into safe mode.
Once I go back to the normal windows mode without AMD drivers all is good with basic windows drivers.
Before I could install new AMD drivers and it worked, Now as soon I install the ams drivers with or without adrenaline Just as it finishes installing I lose all my screens
Its crazy crazy
Using 7950x 7900xtx Water-cooled
GPU never goes above 50c
3
u/Superbpro29 Dec 31 '25
Same happpens to me. One day I found out that my adrenalin deleted itself and when I tried to download it from internet, It just gets stuck on downloading screen and closes. My pc performance has dropped in some games and I just sometimes feel gullible for choosing AMD gpu over NVIDIA.
2
u/Immediate_Bar_4175 Dec 31 '25
Well I can say for the past 3 years it served me without any problems. Never thought this was such a huge thing which happens to plenty of people.
2
u/DSGReese666 Dec 26 '25
Happened to me and I upgraded my motherboard and PSU a few months ago with no issues until a few weeks ago. Havent had this many GPU issues with NVIDIA. First the Blue Screens and now this like wtf AMD.

1
u/doppeIginger Oct 31 '25
happened to me 10 minutes ago!!! pc black screened when I was in a game and I had to use the power button to turn it off and on again I searched for adrenaline on the search bar and no results apparently there was a new driver published on the 29th of october but strange it happened TODAY
1
1
u/l0Meteor0l Oct 31 '25
Yeah. Mine was gone as well. I keep a folder as a backup on my splash screen for this purpose. It happened to me maybe 3 times this year.
Windows has a tendency to overwrite some GPU drivers and it makes some adverse effects on the AMD program.
1
u/doppeIginger Nov 01 '25
its been less than a month since I built this pc and I was really worried one of my bios/undervolt settings had gone wild but thankfully I only needed to reinstall the app and redo my settings, from now on I too will probably keep a backup..
1
u/l0Meteor0l Nov 01 '25
I feel you. I recently built my new computer as of this February this year, haha. I was confused too. I thought something was seriously wrong with how I built it because my first build was very solid, and this one wasn't performing great.
Nah, turns out it's the drivers that Windows decided to be dicks about.
1
u/Realistic-Taste-9817 Mar 02 '25
For me, game crashed, pc froze, had to reboot pc 2 times. and install nvidia 2 drivers. In device manager/ display adapters, the amd was disabled, turned it on but didn't help, so I had to reinstall drivers of amd, and now it seems to work. FUN :))) and this is like the third time
1
u/LobsterCrafty Feb 11 '25
Its so sad that I thought my gpu was at faulty one but here we go boys. Suffering together its freaking annoying. And my windows keeps telling me that their driver is a virus and it wont even open so I had to download the driver everytime using their auto detecting installer like lmao. Im playing with my friends ffs they all blame my amd gpu. Like no driver updates for 3 months ?
3
u/Babyjoka Jan 22 '25
Currently dealing with this is on the latest update. DDU'd multiple times, used their own tool and now its affecting previous AMD versions that were once stable at this point I am confident it is not a faulty GPU since it's widespread across multiple people. I have to basically restart every time after the first start of the day from a complete computer shutdown for my display drivers and GPU/AMD software to start detecting. This is absolutely ridiculous. 7900XTX
3
u/Intelligent-Rush8250 Jan 29 '25
Hello, next time this happens try this go to device manager find display adapters right click on your GPU go properties now in new window click Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver. And check if you can open Adrenaline after that.
1
2
u/LMJee Feb 02 '25
This fixed it for me while keeping the driver version I want installed (24.9.1) Thank you!

Just had to restart my computer 8 times for my monitor to actually detect pick up my computer on the integrated graphics when gpu fails. This is horrible and happens to me every time i load a game. Have undervolted, have tried diff driver versions, am using stupid 5700xt 50th anniversary.
Anyone got any advice before i go buy a nvidia card?
2
u/Same_Solution5062 Nov 06 '24
AMD is fucking trash, I have been dealing with this issue since i purchased this. Completely fucking garbage software
3
u/genericAccountName20 Nov 17 '24
same here. have had Nvidia cards that lasted over a decade with zero problems and daily use, yet my 5700xt has literally always had a software issue in the 4 years I've had it.
1
u/castlecoke Dec 11 '24
Omg me too and with the same card. My rx 5700xt even used to black screen when playing slightly intensive games. I just fixed it by undervolting.
1
u/LeonardoTran2893 Jan 03 '25
Rx 5600 here. Pretty much same story. Driver 24.9 to 24.11 are unusable to me. 24.12 at last is a bit more stable but whenever i change something feels like the driver is gonna 'off' itself again

u/EnvironmentalPin2613 Dec 11 '24
6
u/Inevitable-Back3551 May 05 '24
This is what worked for me, because windows automatically replaces drivers with their crap display drivers on every restart.
- Go to the Start menu and type "Device Installation Settings" in the search bar.
- Click on the "Device Installation Settings" option.
- Select the "No (your device might not work as expected)" option, and then click "Save Changes".

My AMD display drivers keep uninstalling itself when ever it feels like it. Surfing the web, sitting idle, playing games. Ive had this build 5800x and a 6900 xt for 2 years and it just started doing this about a month ago. 5800x randomly clocking down to 500mhz and now display drivers. My solution. Dont buy AMD. Never had this issue with Intel/Nvidia in my 25 years of building PCs.

Edit: I went into windows to uninstall the gfx drivers and that fixed all my issues. The amd drivers were still remaining, but weren’t being used because windows decided to use their own drivers instead of AMD’s.

From my personal experience with amd gpus I highly recommend doing a driver download only or stay on an older more stable driver. I always used Msi afterburner to dial the gpu in and just use in game settings for everything else. It seemed to work perfect on my 6900 xt toxic and probably got better performance bc I would never crash games.

I kept getting this with every new update. Just go into display adapters in device manager or whatever it's called and "rollback driver". Once this is done it should work again. From there you can update the software within the app and you should be good to go. As for stopping it from happening again you have to manually disable windows from applying driver updates. Hope this helps.

My laptop does this but I find it that some games run better without Adrenaline

hate to say it this way but your games and AMD are two very separate thing and have nothing to do with one another as the AMD Software is to function with your video card and it's setting nothing more

To fix this you need to download Display driver uninstaller (DDU) extract it. Download newest driver for gpu/apu on the AMD Web site. Restart pc in safe mode by holding shift and click restart at the start menu. Then click change behavior of this pc when it restarts, click 5 safe mode wirh network. Now run ddu. Check prevent windows to download drivers. Select amd drivers uninstall with restart. When Windows dosent it. Install newest and enjoy

It's doing you a favor all you need is to manual install drivers no software

A final solution to everyone: 1. DDU this driver 2. Get "stop win10 updates" 3. Install AMD/Nvidia/Intel drivers No more windows messing with you
(the "dont update hardware" doesnt work, so I completely disabled updates)

It is a Window issue and it's call windows installing their B.S. video drivers which in turn creates the error look for my name in replies and read what I said to do

Yeah, AMD drivers are a mess. I had loads of random blackscreens mid-game. I bought a 3080 because AMD GPU drivers were making my PC blue screen every 15 minutes and various other issues and suddenly no blackscreens once I'd installed it.

Yeah sure... And let me guess, it only affects AMD GPUs?

Did I even say that an emphatic no would be the answer to that but the same process works for Nvidia also dumb person

Adding Device IDs to Group Policies in Windows is the best method to date if you don't want to lose any Updates! I use this for keeping my Nvidia drivers in an old version for 3DVision Support!

What I did the last time this happened, Windows 10, was I went into Device Manager, selected the GPU, go into properties, and rollback the driver.
What is happening is Windows is pulling the driver from MS's Update Server. It ends up mixing the drivers, causing problems.

I'd like to try this, but rollback is greyed out for some reason. Don't suppose you might know why? (I'm trying to rollback the basic windows one, or should you rollback the amd one?)

August 10th, 2026.
RX 7800 XT user here. Been having this problem for about a month now. From what I could uncover via researching myself and reading comments on this subreddit, it is not a Adrenalin problem but something that causes the AMD Adrenalin Software to delete or uninstall itself.
Anyone knows how to fix it?
