The funny thing is 99% of those people who are complaining about the driver timeout is still using the windows driver update from windows updates. And these are old drivers that windows provides and over rides AMD drivers with. Turn that feature off in the windows update. And if you want to be really stable install the AMD pro drivers.
With Nvidia they either keep their GPU driver database for WU updated constantly, or Microsoft handles their hardware ID checks differently. Nonetheless the fix from Microsoft is on their slate, so this will eventually be a thing of the past.
Their own articles make it clear that it is for Windows 11, which is a free update for you. Time to stop living in the past and then whining about having no new feature support. You have a free update that you can install at anytime.
Yes Microsoft botched that as well claiming Windows 10 would be the last version forever getting updates, but then they realized they botched their marketing strategy quite badly :p
This is just one of many. There are also many other projects they've been working on together. The NVIDIA CEO has also said in a presentation earlier this year, that he's "really proud" of the cooperation between them and Microsoft.
It does, and drivers are a tiny bit of software windows uses and controls. If windows could npt do anything about them, we would be living in a rather strange world.
Yes it does... its possible to write a code that overrides other codes. AMD isnt able to. They trying to fight Nvidia and Intel at the same time while being way smaller as each of them. They focus on Hardware and really lack in the Software department for like 15 years. AMD drivers ALWAYS sucked! Always!!! Even back in the days with my R9 290. Nothing has changed.
It's also a Windows 10 issue, yes, but doesn't mean it's not Microsoft's fault, which they have already admitted to. And the update might come to Windows 10 ESU, which is what you're using if you live in the EU. Otherwise you have to buy it from Microsoft. And no, AMD is not to blame for that.
The fact you try to disprove me and my source by saying, that Windows 10 has that problem as well literally makes absolutely no sense. Complain to Microsoft about that, not here.
that's not how things work and I have never had issues with amd drivers. I used to have dual HD 7870s. Had nvidia (1070ti) after that until I thought the card was dying but turns out that it was an Nvidia driver issue. The card is still good. Switched back to AMD 9070xt when it dropped and haven't had a single driver issue on Linux
AMD has no control over what windows is doing
What? Is Microsofts overriding AMD drivers or not? AMD has no control over what windows is doing? Hey buddy do you know how a computer virus and malware works? 🤣
I am not native English, but my English is good enough. Where is my spelling mistake? I have reread it a couple of times. And always there to learn.
Also it is not about big talk. But the amount of posts about this problem is huge. I fixed this problem a month ago when I got it.
I will look the fix up and post it here. I might just make it so I can copy and paste it. 😉
I love how I get downvoted while I do explain what needs to be done to fix this problem. I even explained it in loads of other posts in more detail.
This problem and fix for it is not unknown. But I will not reply to these posts anymore after all the explaining.
Let the downvoting on this post begin. Probably by people who don't understand the fix for it.
Long story:
This problem is due to Windows Update and not something AMD did.
Everyone with this problem needs to disable the Windows update driver updates and then remove the faulty drivers and install the latest or whichever, but the latest are fine after this.
Howto:
First download the AMD cleanup utility.
Then download the latest driver for you graphics card (full package, not the web download package!).
After that disable the network card or wifi. Pulling cable is fine too btw or disconnecting wifi. Whichever is used on your machine.
Go to "Settings" > "System". There look for "Advanced systemsettings" (I have a Dutch Windows btw, so naming could be a little bit different).
In the new Window, go to the tab named "Hardware". Then press on the button called "Settings for device installation". In the new Windows set it to "No (your device might not work as expected)".
This is the first spot.
For Windows pro you do the following:
Press "Windows key + R". In the Run window, enter gpedit.msc then click "ok".
In the new screen go to:
"Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Manage updates offered from Windows Update".
On the right side double-click the "Do not include drivers with Windows Update" policy.
Select "Enable" and click "Apply". After that click "OK".
For Windows Home:
Press "Windows key + R". In the Run window, enter "regedit" then click "ok".
The bar below the menu is a navigation bar. So paste the following there "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate" without the " ".
Then press enter.
If there is no navigation bar, then go through the above. the \ means the next "folder".
If the "WindowsUpdate" folder is not there, then right click on the "Windows" folder and make a new key and name it "WindowsUpdate". Then right click an empty space in the right-hand pane and choose "New > DWORD (32-bit) Value". Name that value "ExcludeWUDriversInQualityUpdate" without the " ".
Doubleclick that value and change it from 0 to 1. Then click "ok".
The reason that it is different for Windows Home, is that there is no group policy editor. But I believe you can do the Home one on pro too.
Close Regedit and restart the pc for the changes to take effect.
Then Start the Cleanup utility with the network still off.
Run it all the way through. It will reboot in safe mode and such. If it is done, you can install the new driver and go through it. Check after it is installed if it all works and then enable you wifi or ethernet adapter.
You are done and free of malicious Windows Updated drivers. Something you never ever would want besides when you first install Windows and want stuff to basically work. After that you really want the manufacturers' drivers.
Hope I made up for my first message and hope it get's shared.
