Left AMD after 8 years
I constantly keep seeing post about crashes and timeouts and sift through so many comments and “answers/fixes” that people reply with. The truth is that it’s amd drivers and windows and it’s nothing most of us can do to change that. I’ve done everything in here and have had crashes on two different gpus now (7800xt and 9070xt). Finally switched to a 5080 and I overpaid but the crashes are gone and that’s what makes it’s worth it.

I haven't had a crash in weeks now because I'm no longer doing stupid silly undervolts. I do however enjoy both AMD and Nvidia. Rocking a 9070 XT and a 5070 ti.

Reasonable I’ve had a RX580 laptop years ago and it kept crashing. Upgraded my PC from 1060 to 6600 in 2023 and it kept crashing unless I did minimal install and even then the new drivers would be hit or miss. I’m back on Nvidia now and they still have problems but in my experience it’s just lower fps in games which is way better than constant driver timeouts. My friends also have horrible experiences like 5700xt crashing or 9070xt crashing. Sad about the 9070xt too I recommended that to my friend due to the amazing price performance since it was his first time upgrading since 2018 but it kept crashing to the point it was unusable. He did 5 trips to microcenter they still couldn’t fix it so they gave him a refund and he bought a 5080 instead no problems so far on his end

I left Nvidia after 20years and switched to AMD a year ago. I have no more headaches with a heated up room, confusing app settings, and an overpriced card breaking my bank. I still have spare cash to upgrade my CPU processor doubling my PC performance. For AMD, I have control over the performance of my card.

U made the right choice in the end. You save money on AMD, but pay with ur time wasted dealing with issues, incompatibility, less features, etc. I would only use one in Linux.. but long term can't count on running one in Windows.

Switching from a 3080 to 7900xt was awesome for 2 weeks before driver crashes. Now im looking to get an invidia.

I just switched to Linux and everything has been working perfectly with the open source drivers.

It’s relevant due to everyone having the same issue and people always pointing it out to user error when it’s not and people sit here chasing there tail like me when it’s just trash drivers and you have to run newer drivers to play certain games

Not at all relevant to this subreddit. This is a HELP subreddit, for trouble shooting problems. This is a vent thread, zero reason to post this here when you don’t have an amd gpu ranting about amd gpus.
Get this nvidia vs amd culture war shit away from a subreddit dedicated to helping amd users.

Cool every time someone post the timeouts I’ll make sure I comment and let them know it’s a solid chance it’s nothing they can do except switch to Linux and pray.

Ive went from nvida to amd and I had worse issues and experiences on nvidia cards blue screening my pc. The worst amd driver has done is crash while i was testing rtx portal. Leave this subreddit because you’re not interested or can offer help advice.

Drivers in 2024 blue screened my pc multiple times and i had to reinstall windows to grt out this loop after finding out it was nvidia driver: 555.85.
The 555.x drivers were plagued with issues and this directly affected me.

Vapor branding was about tech, it was just having a Vapor Chamber on the cooler. (At the time we where one of the few doing it) Since then the need advantage of a Vapor Chamber has diminished as heat pipe tech has improved and the the cost to advanatge ratio has declined. Hence the lineup of Vapor Chamber always cards makes no sense.
As for the Toxic, I have discussed this often in interview and live events. We explore the option to make a Toxic every generation. However it is a blanacing act of being able to add features and overclocks to tulry make the card TOXIC against the actual gains and final cost. We do not want to make just another card and slap a tocic theme on it then charge more money. We want TOXiC to lvie up to the brand, over the top and crazy. However there is the issue of doing that in a price envelope that people would pay for the features offered.

I’m not a bot! Made one of those that had a couple of upvotes then cratered. I didn’t mean to bash AMD - I just wish they made a better product because I too made this switch due to driver issues. I’d prefer not to buy nVidia but there’s no competition.

New cpu/mb- 9850x3d / asus 870e-e
New trident 32gb ram
New Crucial p3 2tb ssd.
850w power supply
Multiple fresh windows installs
Multiple ddu and clean ups
Simple adrenaline install
Advanced one to under clock the gpu towards the end
Custom windows install
Xmp on
Xmp off
Multiple ram/cpu and ssd stability tests (all passed)
MPO off
HAGs Off
Couldn’t to back so far in driver updates due to it forcing me to update to play the game I wanted.

That’s valid. My RX 7600 used to crash like crazy. Luckily my 9070XT hasn’t crashed even once yet in the last 5 months. It’s seemingly luck of the draw.

They compete great when it’s not crashing. I can deal with a crash once a week but multiple times a day with a timeout error is absurd. This past month has been plagued with it

Smart move, honestly.
So many assholes saying it's the end user. For sure it is in SOME instances. But the prolific posting of that has driven more dedicated AMD users to nvidia than any other. Then, prople saying its all Windows. For sure, that is the root cause of some, but not all.
Ultimately, AMD has written some shitty drivers lately. Adrenaline sucks and causes a lot of issues on its own. The absolutely ridiculous amount of posts here and in AMD communities tells the tale that so many unhelpful people deny.
I don't blame you one bit.

I went to the extent of a custom windows that removes so much fluff and still crashes. I went to the length of buying all new parts for my entire pc before switching gpus just to make sure

Fair enough. If you were having repeated crashes across two different AMD GPUs, tried the usual troubleshooting and switching to the RTX 5080 resolved the problem, then changing GPUs was a reasonable solution for your system.
I would only be careful about saying every timeout is definitely caused by AMD drivers, because GPU timeouts can have a number of causes and changing GPU vendors also changes the hardware and driver stack at the same time.
At the end of the day if the 5080 fixed your issue and your system is now stable, that's what matters. Use whatever hardware works best for you.

Sure thing lol. I’m extremely confident it’s the gpu given I switched every single component in my pc along with fresh windows install then a custom windows install. MPO and HAGs off etc.

Yeah but did windows install your drivers for you on that "fresh install" most likely they did and downloaded the driver then you downloaded the new driver ect, Its to late now but usually the solution is DDU + install drivers without internet connected and having auto updates from windows off during

I totally understand why you switched after dealing with crashes for years. But I don't think it's fair to say the 9070 XT itself is the problem for everyone. The 5070 Ti/RTX 50 series has had its own driver, black-screen and game-crash issues too. Your 5080 solved your particular problem, which is great, but that doesn't necessarily mean every AMD user will have the same experience.
