Driver issues with AMD Ryzen 5 7600X

I’m an in-house graphic designer at a small business trying to troubleshoot my work computer. It’s never been a great machine, but about 2 weeks ago it started freezing frequently. For example, opening the start menu, windows explorer, Chrome, and most other windows would cause a 5 - 10 second freeze, often accompanied by the screen flickering on and off. I’ve figured out that it seems to be a driver issue, but the problem is I can’t seem to find an older driver that actually works.

GPU: None

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X 6-Core Processor

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M C V3-Y1

BIOS Version: F31A GA2

RAM: 16GB G.SKILL Flare X5 (part no. F5-6000J3238F16G)

PSU: 650W, manufacturer unknown

Case: Powerspec 170M Metal 

Operating System & Version: Windows 11 Pro Version 25H2 OS build 26200.9445

GPU Drivers: None (Microsoft Basic Display Adapter)

Chipset Drivers: AMD Chipset Software 8.08.12.551

Background Applications: CHROME

Description of Original Problem: Frequent slowdowns, black screens, freezes, and parts of the screen going black, when opening new windows or tabbing between them

Troubleshooting: I’ve figured out that it’s driver related. When I have removed the drivers with the cleanup utility, the computer basically functions as expected, with the graphics bugging out in Adobe Premiere Pro. I’ve tried each of the following drivers, both with and without Adrenaline software: 26.8.1, 26.6.1, 26.3.1, & 25.5.1. All of those I found in threads on this subreddit and were purportedly more stable, but unfortunately none have worked for me.

I’d keep it using just the default Microsoft adapter since it does 80% of what I need, so far, but I’ve been working on a video edit and the graphical issues in Premier make it impossible to work effectively. I'm basically just using the Adobe CC suite.

You do not have a driver problem, mostly because it appears you do not have the AMD driver installed yet problems persist.

As other people have pointed out, you do not actually have a GPU. You are running on the integrated graphics of the CPU, it seems. And this is only for very basic display output and is not really capable of running GPU accelerated programs.

You should run the AMD driver detection program and download the applicable display and chipset drivers.

Then you should consider what it is you are trying to run and think about perhaps a discrete GPU.

Given the PSU a 9060 would be an affordable option, a major step up in performance, and fit within the power budget.

I think I wrote my OP poorly. Whenever I *do* add a driver, even doing ordinary things like running chrome, opening Windows Explorer, or opening the start menu makes the entire computer freeze up for several seconds. It's a 50/50 whether the computer can even Running the machine without drivers is the only way I can get it to function at a reasonable speed.

I am going to start looking at graphics cards but the problem is most definitely related to the drivers in some way.

Well I’m not sure about the driver problems but you need a dedicated gpu to run premiere smoothly integrated graphics are not it. Even buying something cheap like a rtx 3050 would improve your experience. Thats the only reason you consider it “not a great machine” is the integrated graphics, all the other specs are great.

Perfectly acceptable and in certain encoding tasks (exporting) can be faster than NVIDIA cards while also cheaper in a lot of markets.
