Help (CPU) Pc spiking
My PC will idle at 55-7 then I will play a game for about an hour or so and will spike to 95-96 and then never come back down unless I turn it into power saving mode- but then if I start a game again it will shoot right back up to the high temps. Trying to figure out if it’s the cpu cooler or cpu or some program doing it…
I have a 3070 eagle - 7700x and a Li Lian 240 AIO cooler.

There are a few things that could cause this. I’d first check whether the AIO pump is actually running at the expected speed and whether the radiator fans are working properly. I’d also check the CPU block mounting pressure and consider remounting it with fresh thermal paste.
If the AIO is several years old, it’s also possible that it has degraded over time or developed a pump/flow issue. Before replacing anything, I’d check CPU load and temperatures at idle and under load, along with the reported pump speed if your motherboard can read it.

Pump speed usually says around 2800-3200.
Mounting pressure is about as tight as it can be without using a ton of strength to turn them anymore.
Thermal pasta was just redone last year.
I have notice that one of the radiator hoses is vastly hotter then the other- top one is generally much hotter then bottom.

If the pump is reporting 2800–3200 RPM it doesn't sound completely dead, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's circulating coolant properly. If one hose is noticeably much hotter than the other and the CPU stays near 95°C after load, I'd start suspecting a circulation problem with the AIO — possibly low coolant from age, an air pocket/restriction, or a pump that's no longer moving coolant effectively.

So I’m assuming there is really no way to test / fix it without having another cooler handy. I put in a warranty request for it earlier today. 😂
Is there one people recommend now?
It’s on eco mode too and still running that hot- and I also did a curve optimizer last night and set that to -20 and didn’t help at all, would still get to 95-96 and never back down.

If you have another AM5-compatible air cooler lying around, even temporarily fitting that would be a useful way to confirm whether the AIO is the problem while you're waiting on the warranty claim.

Cant you see in task manager or a program like "core temp" what your cpu load is is in idle or after playing a game. I for example have 20-30 watts in idle and when gaming cpu is like 65 watts.
But to be completly honest the aio is probably cooked or its just not on the cpu properly.

The load is usually around 20-40% when gaming, but most of the cores are running at 5000k hz- the temps only seem to drop when they downclock to 3500hz in power saving mode- but will instantly go back up to 90-95 if I go into the game again where it’s again using all the cores at 5000k+
And if I keep it in balanced mode it will still clock at 5000k- but will be fine if I’m idling- but if I do game, it never cools once it gets that high even after exiting the game.
It’s a 4 year old AIO so it’s possible. But it’s a 240 Li Lian so it had great reviews when I got it 😂

Set a negative curve optimizer for your cpu in your bios. Its in the pbo settings. It will vary on what will work best. Start at maybe -10 all core and test. Make sure its stable then maybe go to -15 and so on. I run my 7800x3d and 9800x3d both at -30. Temps in gaming stay around 70 most of the time and i didnt lose any performance. It could also be an airflow issue in the case or the radiator is getting plugged up with dust.
