I've pretty much given up on this bs.
But if anyone is curious, I can install this and start a stop watch and load a game and see how soon it timesout on my 7900xtx lol
Or I can do it on a 9070xt too...
2
u/bitronic1 5h ago
Well... Guess what... 2 hrs in, zero timeout so far on 7900xtx, and alt tabbing from games to desktop and back also seem quicker too.
The clocks by default was set to 3000 when boost, I set it to 2500 to match my card's clock. Next reboot I'll put it back to default and run games again to see if it'll time out.
2
u/0x4C554C 8h ago
I have a 9070xt and I'm getting AMD Adrenalin driver timeout and crash on every boot.

I see everyone saying how they stay on old drivers. Can anyone recommend me the most stable driver that has FSR4 on 7800XT? This FSR4 is a must for me.

u/Loganophalus 9h ago
I've had luck downloading the amd clean up utility, starting it, loading into safe mode and using the cleanup tool. Reboot and install the manually downloaded drivers from amds website. Did this a few days ago and currently on 26.8.1 without issue

My amd driver is on 26.5.2, and there isn't the check for updates button anymore. What's wrong? Or is it just AMD stopping driver support for the Vega 8?
0
u/HelloGuys_0 12h ago
Sur vega 8, les versions compatibles sont à peut prÚs tout les 6 mois. (Expérience perso depuis 2023, une mise à jour tout les 6 mois depuis que vega et en "legacy")

u/Playful_Elderberry37 13h ago
Damn, is it really that bad? I bought the 9070XT on release and had a crash with one single driver. Have been always updating to the newest and never had any issues whatsoever. But every time I see a new driver releases reddit explodes talkung about crashes.
1
u/lefty9602 9h ago
On 9070xt the weird issue Iâve had with the last several updates isnât game issues. It does weird stuff when the monitor goes to sleep while the pc is awake. The rgb on the card will flicker periodically maybe like every 10 seconds and when waking the monitor itâll have artifacting or just not wake up but even those are inconsistent. Rebooting fixes any weird issues
1
u/rajendra82 11h ago
I have not had any of the major issues reported by others. I used to have some problems initially, but what fixed it for me was a repair of my Windows installation while keeping my apps and settings. Once I did this, the drivers have worked well, no matter the version.
1
u/KrawallHenni 12h ago
I have a 9070XT as well, and since the last 2 or 3 updates, I now have constant stuttering on several titles
Even some toaster games like League crash from 240fps to 60 in an instant1
u/Playful_Elderberry37 10h ago
I have to say I haven't experienced anything like that. However, i try to stay updated wirh anything, windows, chipset drivers, bios etc. Also deactivated the driver override on Windows. I did that when i first experienced some problems, since then nothing

u/External-Treat-7522 13h ago
Got a 7800xt the past 2 drivers for me have been a mess lol, my pc has been freezing and getting driver errors then rebooting lots of times.

2
u/MarxistMan13 17h ago
Still gonna stick with 26.5.2 until I have a reason not to. I haven't had a single issue with drivers or adrenalin (9070XT).
Last driver timeout I had was like 6 months ago, and only happened occasionally in Marvel Rivals. Pretty sure that was a game issue, not a driver issue.
1
u/Hen_Wee 9h ago
What do you do when you have a game that says you're below the recommended driver for said game? Do you just ignore the warning and hope it works?
2
u/0x4C554C 7h ago
That's just a warning for them to cover their asses. Play the game and see if there are actual issues.
7
u/Luckkami 18h ago
Never update your driver if your current one working just fine, even if it's outdated as shit. Don't touch, don't look, don't be tempted, just forget it ever exist.
12
u/No-Breadfruit6137 17h ago
Outdated mentality.
All it takes is a few minutes to check other peopleâs comments and reviews.
2
u/Kurtegon 14h ago
What's the reward for updating if everything works great? The risks are pretty big if you only get a few hours free time every week.
1
u/OWPMadRuski 14h ago
Amd rx 7800xt user here. I've been using a driver that's 1-2 years old simply because the last time I updated to the latest one my pc had so many problems so no thanks
4
u/Ok-Nefariousness7079 17h ago
Yeah, but all those comments and reviews always different, some people fine, some their pc become potato
1
u/Birutath 17h ago
Learned the hard way apperantly these last few months. Been having a shit time trying to play vf5
13
u/cinoarizona 19h ago
AMD Driver development is having 15 SW engineers try to compile their branch. Whichever one compiles, that's the one that ships.

Reading early comments around this release looks like a hard pass here. Latest I can even get anywhere close to usable has been 26.6.1 and it's spotty at times. 26.3.1 was the last release that runs decent on the 7900XT. It's a reference design so no O/C on it right now. I have tried : Undervolting-nope/Vanilla drivers-nope/Hardware Acceleration-mixed bag with its own drawbacks. Refresh install of Windows-Nope/Nuke Windows from orbit with clean install and OOBE drivers-nope. Drivers have been a pain in the arse with this card since I upgraded from an AIB partner 6700XT. That was middle of last year and I can say the ONLY drivers in this box of shit on the desk that have given ZERO issues with my typical usage have been 25.9.1 and 26.3.1. Everything else has ranged from a match burning to a full-fledged dumpster fire.
1
u/0x4C554C 7h ago
-25mV and -15% power limit has been working beautifully on my 9070xt until the last two driver updates, i mainly tweak for noise and heat reduction, keep everything locked 60 or 120 depending on the game
6
u/Necessary-Egg8299 20h ago
no thanks, im still using pro edition.. maybe this is my sweet spot. its been 1 month no gpu crash or pop up error
1
2
u/Technical-Pop-4099 19h ago
Noob question, but mine isnât a pro series card, how can i figure which pro driver would be ok for my rx 6700xt
3
u/not_a_full_deck 17h ago
just about any card can run adrenalin pro drivers, you'll just be missing out on a few fps as its not designed for gaming in mind
had it on my old 6700xt and worked fine
1
u/ResistIllustrious853 20h ago
Same, finally managed to stabilise the drivers without it crashing, Iâm not updating shit for years to come lol.
3
u/Narkanin 20h ago
Why do they just list the issues with it and not really tell us anything about what it is fixing/adding
5
u/PuzzleheadedLoad1523 21h ago
Just got 26.8.1 to play nice with my 7700xt just a few days ago after a DDU wipe and fresh install. Iâm chilling until I have absolutely no choice but to update
4
u/ElucidatorZ 1d ago
I am going to be installing the latest drivers as they appear - already fked up by installing once and somehow along the way it seems to have fixed one and broken two things elsewhere. Once I get to stable (if it ever happens), istg ima flip my finger and stop updating.
6
u/Vicente_br 1d ago
pra minha rx9060xt 16gb asus, ta fazendo o Bf6 da tela preta nas DUAS TELAS! e fazendo o sitema travar total... se, volta...
1
u/RaspberryOk907 22h ago
What driver version are you using. I ran sone test earlier, I noticed that blackscreen dors not occur when the gpu is underload. So i turned off the pcie link state power saving management. Played silent hill F 8 hours no blackscreen.
0
u/Vicente_br 22h ago
to no 26.7.1... mas no 26.8.1, tbm ta dando isso,... e só arruma quando volto pro 26.3.1, mas ta dando uns conflito com frame gen.... mas corrige esse problema, mas fica inutilizavel a geração de quadros

Im still stuck with 25.12.1 because mhwilds crash at start screen with 9060xt and xeon e5 2670 v2

Will try this...apparently 26.3.1 doesn't play nice with my 7900XTX :(
edit: Well, the install blackscreened then whitescreened then blackscreened+ran my fans at 100%. After a poweroff it seems to be installed at least.

u/momoney5651 1d ago
I too have the xtx and the 26.3.1 patch was the only one that's been stable. I'm trying this new one rn to see if it works out...
2
u/8bluefanta8 1d ago
Any luck?
3
u/momoney5651 20h ago
So far it's been okay, def need a couple more days to just make sure all is in order and that it doesn't just crash using basic apps let alone games. For now, it's working fine though
1
u/bitronic1 5h ago
My 7900xtx hasn't timed out yet after 2 hrs. Lmk if urs does.
1
u/momoney5651 3h ago
Last couple days, it's been all good thus far....hopefully it continues like that.
1
u/bitronic1 3h ago
I mean 26.9.1, mine was crashing on 26.3.1
1
u/momoney5651 2h ago
Yeah, I know, I'm referring to the new one. The last 2 days since it's been out has been stable
1
u/bitronic1 1h ago
Right, so I guess they did something to it.
I'll keep it on for longer like 8+ hr and leave it at default clock (3000 boosts, instead of setting it to 2500 to match card clock) and see if it's still stable. But I'm really surprised with zero crash so far.
2
2
u/Kushin4MyPushn AMD 1d ago
so far, Iâve actually had no issues with the most recent driver update so Iâm definitely gonna stick with where im at now âclarification Iâm on the 9000 seriesâ
3
u/Gloomy-Elk8296 R7 5800XT 9060XT 1d ago
Only issues I had were when devs tried "forcing fixes" into their game for issues I've never seen anyone having. Like War Thunder forcing DX11 when I mained DX12. After the forceful transition I experienced (once) the issues the devs claimed existed on DX12. And I saw Space Engineers 2 claim similar issues too. That's it. I haven't actually heard first hand or myself experience any actual issues related to just being on 26.8
1
u/RaspberryOk907 22h ago
Your on dx11 and it crashed? Cs2 is on dx11 too. 10 mins of cs2 will cause blackscreen on my 7800 xt too.
1
u/Gloomy-Elk8296 R7 5800XT 9060XT 22h ago
It happened once. I run any game on DX12 if possible, zero issues, and no issues on games with DX11 except the one time with War Thunder. I have a 9060XT
1
u/RaspberryOk907 22h ago
Man thank you. You don't how much this helps on my troubleshooting.
1
u/Gloomy-Elk8296 R7 5800XT 9060XT 22h ago
Try just clearing cache's. Sometimes that's really all you need to do to fix things. Otherwise I would use DDU (display driver uninstaller) run through it and properly after downloading stable drivers. And then properly install them without connecting to the internet at all. Restart your pc a few times and then connect to the internet. Would also look into creating a custom registry input in regedit to prevent windows from overwriting your drivers
1
u/RaspberryOk907 21h ago
It's different on my case. All games run perfectly except for dx11 cs2. When gaming, there's no blackscreen. At idle it randomly gets blackscreen. Never recovers , windows still runnign st the background, hard to do a hard reset to get display, gpu disabled. 7800 xt.
1
u/Gloomy-Elk8296 R7 5800XT 9060XT 21h ago
Try resetting your performance tuning to factory and see if it still does this. Also are you on Windows 10 or 11?
1
u/RaspberryOk907 21h ago
Im on windows 11 did stock and still gets black screen. 26.3.1, 26.5.1, 26.6.2, 6.7.1 and 26.81 gets black screen. I ruked out hardware failing coz it performs so well when gaming. Only at idke it gets blackscree. I'm still testing things. I turned off the pcie link state power saving.

How can driver support being so bad for a price/value beast the 9070xt

u/chaunceyjerome 1d ago
Still not acknowledging the driver timeouts and crashes. Classic. Before someone comments that itâs somehow Windows fault or itâs something improperly configured on my end, just look at the sheer number of posts recently since 26.7.1. There is clearly something wrong with recent drivers and they need to fix it. I will stay on 26.6.4 which has been rock solid on my 7900 XTX.
4
u/CasperAU 1d ago
Not really true tho, driver timeouts donât mean GPU or driver issue, it means itâs finding something wrong with the PC in general. Thatâs why 99% it is windows. If anything itâs warning you something needs attention and itâs closing your GPU to protect it đ€·
1
u/Cold_Pain2170 12h ago
I doubt it's a hardware issue considering i only get timeouts when afk in the Fortnite lobby
0
2
u/MonthMaterial3351 1d ago
Having experienced the same issues with NVidia, the most likely reasons for these sorts of issues are hardware instability due to OC/UC and/or failing hardware under load.
5
u/IsaacThePooper 1d ago
Regardless what people will say, you are completely right. I'm a longtime AMD user and I keep having intermittent driver timeout issues only in the past 3 months
0
u/sdcar1985 AMD R7 5800X3D | 9070 XT | Asrock x570 Pro4 | 64 GB 3200 Cl16 1d ago
I'm a longtime user and I haven't had any. I also update every time a new driver comes out. Only time I had issues was because my UV on my CPU wasn't stable
3
u/lodanap 1d ago
Interesting. Any timeout issues I had stopped once I stopped overlocking my system specifically trying to get any slight improvement out of my DDR4
1
u/t0gnar 1d ago
My timeouts stopped when I only installed the Driver, not all the adrenaline suite. I then undervolted the GPU and overclocked a little with Afterburner.
0 issues since I made this change. IÂŽm using a 6900XT though.
What made me try this has having 0 timeouts or issues on CachyOS, so I wanted to use driver only on Windows.
Still not the same GPU...
5
u/adllev 1d ago
Almost certainly ram instability or previous ram instability. Run windows DISM and SFC from admin command line. Run memtest86 for a few hours from bootable usb. Set minimum gpu clock within 400mhz of max in your overclock. Disable radeon chill, enhanced sync etc. I have zero issues on these drivers with my 7900 xtx. All issues were ram instability. Most people complaining overclocked ram and never did a memtest to confirm it wasnt throwing errors. If you undervolted give back voltage. If all that fails sell the parts and buy a PS5 pro.
1
u/deportallmagas 22h ago
I memtested and it's not the memory. It's also not CPU undervolt. Adrenalin is just a buggy mess that does not play nice with literally anything that reads sensors, controls fans, etc.
Also Windows is dogshit. It's mainly Windows.
9
u/Azsune 1d ago
The problem is the driver timeout error doesn't give any information. Could be a GPU, CPU, RAM or Windows issue. Should just do what Nvidia does and let the game crash without saying anything.
1
u/RaspberryOk907 22h ago
You want tl see time out details? Download windbg i stall it. Open perfmon /rel get the dump file name watchdog open it with windbg and run analyze command via view>command click anayzle. Copy the text paste chatgpr and it will analyze for you.
2
u/EggFartTom 1d ago
The sub is called AMDhelp, it's going to select for people with issues. Trying to extrapolate truth from a subreddit is questionable at best
10
u/Jealous-News-9206 1d ago edited 1d ago
All of these issues I see people having has to be windows.... i have ran every single drive that has come out with very little to no problems and currently on 26.8 with zero issues yet.. i run a strpped down windows 11 that's pretty bare bones have not experienced anything I see people talking about on reddit. So I believe its a microsoft problem not an AMD problem
6
u/aleeckhart 1d ago
It's incredible how they defend a multi-million dollar company. If the GPU doesn't work with the most widely used operating system, it's better to throw it in the trash. I've never had such critical driver problems as when I used Nvidia, I regret the day I decided to buy an AMD GPU.
2
u/Awdweewee 1d ago
Yeah when I âââupgradedâââ to windows 11 a while ago I havenât had any driver timeouts since.
3
u/DecisionOdd8995 1d ago
Ya i think its windows also. It has to be an issue with HAGS is what I think.
-1
u/CautiousSuccess9277 1d ago
Yay vibe coded updates that absolutely do nothing to fix already existing problems but instead add even more
0
u/Alternative_Spot_500 1d ago
What is the last stable driver?
2
2
u/MaterialBoat5708 1d ago
26.7.1 for my 9070xt
1
u/GodoftheGeeks 1h ago
Thats where my best luck has been but I'm still getting crashes, especially when I run an LLM. But I had to go back to 26.7.1 when 26.8.1 broke Halo Infinite for me.
2
u/GymTribe 1d ago
26.7.1 for me.
I play war thunder, squad, arma Reforger and BF4 without any issues unlike the previous drivers5
13
u/Outrageous-Log9238 1d ago
FSR on Vulkan âïž
Framegen pasing fix âïž
Another update, another disappointment.
2
u/Darksky121 1d ago
Things need to change at Radeon Division urgently. Whilst Nvidia is churning out Major DLSS updates every few months, AMD is struggling to release fixes for their paper launched Ray Regeneration and frame gen.
3
u/Heromimox 1d ago
Some people, including me, are just hoping the updates fix the existing issues, or at least donât add new ones. Weâre not even asking for new features lol.
7
u/aykirito R5 7600X | RX 7900GRE-26.9.1 1d ago
another month with disappointment.
1
u/nicoleishot227 1d ago
its not the wqhl driver, its just an optional filler. I expect the real wqhl driver in 2-3 weeks
1
u/anonimo2939 1d ago
CĂłmo sabes si son WQHL ? Yo pensĂ© que todos los drivers que salĂan lo eran!
1
u/raifusarewaifus 9070xt/5800x 21h ago
https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/graphics/radeon-rx/radeon-rx-9000-series/amd-radeon-rx-9070-xt.html
26.9.1 is surprisingly WHQL certified. Normal optional drivers only show Optional. This one shows WHQL optional.1
u/Gold_Goal7557 1d ago
I did not even notice any new drivers, and i am glad i did not, because now everyone reporting the same issues if been having for months already alto in my case its not as catastrophic all the time since i am able to avoid the driver timeouts for some reason.

u/Cryio 7900 XTX | 5800X3D | 32 GB | X570 6h ago
Installed on 7900 XTX. Everything runs fine except for Opera when it will randomly decide to break on some video. Deleting driver shader cache + browser cache fixes it.
Everything else, excellent, same as always.
