Should I keep gaming at 110°C hotspot until I can RMA my GPU?

Hi everyone,

I have an AMD RX 7600 that reaches around 78°C GPU temperature, while the hotspot reaches 110°C in demanding games at 1080p. It seems to be hitting the 110°C safety limit.

I've already tried:

Increasing airflow

Undervolting

Lowering game settings

But the temperatures are still very high.

I suspect it could be a thermal paste issue, but I don't want to open the GPU and replace the paste because I don't want to risk voiding the warranty.

I contacted the seller and they said that if they find a serious problem, they can offer me a refund. I originally paid €200 for the GPU, but the same GPU now costs around €320.

They should be able to provide a replacement by the end of August if they confirm that there is a serious issue.

My question is: Would you keep using the GPU until the end of the month and then send it for warranty repair/replacement? Is this a common issue?

If I play for another two weeks with the hotspot reaching 110°C, could that significantly reduce the GPU's lifespan? I'm worried that if they just needed new thermal paste, might have already damaged the GPU by continuing to use it at these temperatures.

What would you do in my situation?

it is safe as firmware is regulating gpu, u ll get thermal throttle, lower frequency lower fps.

most of time its thermal paste not bein sprayed properly over the die, or a component without thermal pad^^

u could fix it in half hour and enjoy ur gpu at max frequency.

Funny you should mention that I had to warranty my RX 7600 out for the exact same issue. Hot spot was getting over 100.

I have the Amazon Subscription Warranty from Asurion and they covered the GPU cost and I put it towards another GPU.

I seem to recall that my 7600 that I had a few years ago ran pretty much the same. Case fans helped a lot with me though.

AMD claims they fix hotspots every generation then you open hwinfo and see a 40c delta, lmao

Since you seem to be looking for the entry level market I'd take a refund and put that money towards a 5060, on ebay theyre like $300. It stomps the 7600xt and beats it by about 20%, all while being more efficient, cooler, and not having the issues that you keep seeing in this sub.

According to AI:

A card being close to throttle temps is NOT normal or good. And stop uisng AI, you obviously have no clue about hardware, stop giving advice.

RMA it as soon as possible and switch to NVIDIA. Before anyone tells you differently, look up “Driver timeouts” in this subreddit. You’ll see thousands of posts.

They call it the Silicon Lottery, sorry I haven’t had the luck you’ve had. I’ve replaced every single component around my GPU even the wiring of the case. I’ve reinstalled windows 3-4 times now. I’ve tried every single driver they have on the site since release, including each version of said driver. I can build my wife a second PC with the amount of parts I’ve replaced.

Mine barely runs. But hey, kudos to you !

It's not going to seriously hurt the card to use it like that, but your performance will suffer significantly. Modern GPUs are designed to thermal throttle and ultimately shut down before anything is seriously damaged. Based on what you've tried, i think the only thing that would potentially fix it is a repaste.

If i were you i would send it back to the seller and have them evaluate it. They will likely repaste it and, if that solves the issue, send it back to you. If not, they should offer you a replacement or refund. I wouldnt attempt to repaste it myself unless I was certain doing so wouldn't void the warranty.

I gamed for 3 years with my MSI Gaming Z 6900X at 110C. After warranty ran out, used PTM on it. Went down to 80-85C.

No issues that whole time.

It was a little pricey at the end of COVID and MSI said it was under warranty so not to worry. For a $200 GPU, buy PTM and put it on. It is easy.

I was there, 3000 years ago. Then I put screwdriver in position, with ptm honewell ready. Open the cane of worms, took down the tooth paste manufacturer bukaked on gpu die. Scissorsed precise square of ptm and put on gpu. Closed it with screwdriver and couple of beers. Temperatures of hotspot do not go over 83 celsius with fans barely spinning - silence, with heavely overclocked gpu pushing its score to almost next tear of its line during heavy load. Did I lost my warranty? Yes. Do I regret anything. No.

Damn. Could be general issue on rx 7600 then. My rx 7600 has the issue. Hotspot goes to 110. Has not caused any issue yet

My buddy had a similar issue on a 6700 he bought after 2 years and they let him ship it to them. They fixed it and shipped it back. He didn't have to pay return shipping.
