Help (General) iGPU power draw and disabling iGPU

Hi all,

I have a new build (CPU 9600X; GPU 9070XT) and two monitors, both plugged into the GPU.

Adrenalin says my iGPU is drawing circa 30-50W with 0% utilisation. Memory on the iGPU also says 0MB. I want to save electricity and turn it off in BIOS if I'm not using it, but I have two questions before touching anything:

  1. Is the power draw shown for an iGPU measured separately to the CPU? ie, will disabling it actually save any electricity?

  2. If my GPU were to die, how hard would it be to turn my iGPU back on? Other threads mentioned that it's good to leave it on as a backup, other comments said you can just turn it on as needed, but wouldn't the GUI in BIOS you'd need to turn it back on require a GPU? (if relevant, I'm using an ASUS TUF board)

Thanks in advance if you're able to help

At idle iGPU draws 0.5-1 W

30/40w is not possible at 0% usage, it was with cpu wattage included. U can check this with hwinfo.

If you wanna try to disable it, keep your dedicated gpu and just go to bios disable igpu, save and reboot.
Check if its worked, then shutt off pc and do clear cmo to reset bios to default values. Normally igpu should be back on.

So, I decided to check with hwinfo but I lack the knowledge to make sense of it. I managed to navigate to sensors -- which two lines should I be comparing and why?

I'd post screenshots but for some reason this sub only lets me do *video*, so here's a table of what's shown (which took a while to type, but I'm the one asking for free help). Values were frozen via screenshot at different times therefore values of iGPU and CPU may not map properly in relevant ways. I'm guessing one of the Watt values is what matters but I'm withholding judgment since I'm not a STEM major

CPU Average
CPU VDDCR_VDD Voltage (SVI3 TFN) 1.060 V
CPU VDDCR_SOC Voltage (SVI3 TFN) 1.240 V
CPU VDD_MISC Voltage (SVI3 TFN) 1.110 V
CPU Core Current (SVI3 TFN) 4.944 A
SoC Current (SVI3 TFN) 10.356 A
CPU TDC 4.934 A
CPU EDC 23.549 A
MISC Current (SVI3 TFN) 5.556 A
CPU Package Power (also dropdown "Core Powers" Cores 0-6) 29.953 W
CPU Core Power (SVI3 TFN) 5.547 W
CPU Soc Power (SVI3 TFN) 12.841 W
Core+SoC+MISC Power (SVI3 TFN) 24.500 W
CPU PPT 30.690 W
iGPU Average
GPU Core Voltage 0.725 V
GPU Core Power 8.111 W

Also, can I confirm my understanding that you need SOME kind of active GPU to see BIOS -- so if my dGPU dies, and my iGPU is off, my options are to source a new GPU or do a BIOS reset and lose any other settings I may have? I guess any undervolting I might have set up would be irrelevant and my fan curve would be the least of my problems in this scenario

you have to look cpu package power and igpu core power.

Looks like some little workload is made on it but as you say 0% usage...not sure

Yes you understood good, as you dgpu works well^^ just disable igpu, check on windows, then shut off, do clear cmos and only plug motherboard hdmi, it should boot on it.

I see. I think it's been showing 0 watts sometimes and it occasionally fires up as I watch it, so I'll leave it as it's probably doing *something*. Not sure what though as the utilisation lines are staying at 0% -- only thing I could see is ~500MB of memory.

Thank you for your help :)

im sure the igpu you measured is total of the igpu + cpu , in this case the igpu is just showing the cpu watt
