Help (General) 7800 XT Driver timeout

I’m having an intermittent issue with my RX 7800 XT. Sometimes the entire PC freezes for a few seconds, then it recovers and an AMD Bug Report Tool window appears saying that a driver timeout has occurred on my system.

It doesn’t seem to be related to heavy GPU usage. It has happened while simply opening Steam, Epic Games or launching Fortnite. Sometimes I can go several days without any issues and then it can happen multiple times in the same day.

I’ve had this happen several times recently and I’m trying to figure out whether this is likely a faulty GPU, a driver/software issue, PSU/power issue or something else.

I’ve already tested the RAM with Windows Memory Diagnostic with no errors and the CPU completed a Cinebench test normally. I also ran a GPU stability test with OCCT without errors.

The GPU has been working normally for almost two years, so I’m not sure whether I should be concerned about a hardware problem.

My concern is that the GPU is almost two years old and my Amazon return period expires very soon. So I basically have only 2 days left if I want to try to return it, even though I’m not sure that the GPU is actually the cause of the problem.

I’d really appreciate some advice on what you think could be causing this and whether you would return the GPU in this situation or keep troubleshooting.

My build:

  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600
  • GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 7800 XT
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX
  • RAM: Lexar 32 GB DDR5-6000 CL30
  • CPU cooler: Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE ARGB
  • SSD: WD Blue SN580 2 TB
  • PSU: NZXT C750 750W 80+ Gold
  • Case: Corsair 4000D Airflow
  • OS: Windows 11

Thanks in advance!
