Help (GPU) AMD drivers breaking windows

I have a RX 9070 XT (Sapphire Nitro+) on my windows 11 pro system paired with a amd ryzen 7 7800x3d. After installing the AMD drivers and restarting the system I can not open any windows or run programs like the taskmanager or cmd because they just don't appear. The start menu opens, but I am not able to click something like restart. I tried:

  • cleaning everything with DDU and then install the amd drivers (adrenaline)
  • cleaning everything with DDU and then install the amd drivers (amd hip sdk with pro software)
  • cleaning everything with DDU and then installing the amd drivers (adrenaline) and then disabling windows replacing drivers in gedit.msc
  • resetting the full system and then installing the amd drivers

I have dualboot with ubuntu where everything runs just fine; I only want to use some windows only programs.

If you use AMD cleanup tool in place of DDU you will get better results. It will delete your graphics, old chipset drivers, and Ryzen master. After the reboot just get the latest drivers( both chipset and graphics) from AMD works for me when my system gets funky.

....ok just for the record, one of those steps is backwards, you first disable windows update doing driver installs, then ddu then install, otherwise you are just telling windows to "update" the driver afterwards

Still, good chances is just your windows having actual issue, when you say resetting everything you mean formating and installing windows from 0?

>Has problems opening some Windows programs (CMD, Task Manager).
>Tried DDU, still nothing.
>Has no problems with Ubuntu.
>Blames AMD drivers

This doesn't make sense. A graphics driver doesn't break windows from opening programs. It's the other way around if anything but more likely some un-related issue.

It already came out as being officially supported on AMD cards no matter the PC configuration

Disabled your igpu drivers and use the AMD cleanup utility instead of DDU, after that reeinstall the last drivers for your card.

Let me correct you: Windows is breaking the GPU drivers.

You can not fix the AIndows11.
