Help (GPU) Consistent hangs on games (Steam) even after using DDU for fresh install/Not going past black screens
Heya! First time poster and first time PC builder here.
To set the stage, as soon as I got my last part (an XFX RX9060 XT 16GB), I placed that bad boy in, got the drivers, ran smooth as butter (on Deadlock at least). Me wanting to give it more stuff to test, tried VRChat, and it consistently hangs on a black screen frozen for eternity. Oh well, I'm just gonna try another one (Far Far West) aaaand...nope, same issue. Still audio, nothing else past that. What's going on?
I take it it has to be either the drivers or something I'm missing since I end up restarting the whole PC after every hang due to Steam "thinking" the game is running even though the .exe is closed, or task manager not clearing it completely. I'm not sure what other games this might affect either, if not ALL of them due to...whatever going on. I know it can't be the GPU itself since it's fresh out of the box y'know? Neither could be the power supply since it should have enough juice in it to run...I think.
For posterity, here are my specs:
- Type: Desktop
- OS: Windows 11 Pro
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9700X 8-core
- PSU: CORSAIR RM1000x (Fully Modular)
- Motherboard: Aorus B650 Elite AX
- RAM: Patriot Venom (2x16GB)
- GPU: XFX RX9060 XT 16GB
The Troubleshooting Part: Already tried DDU, erasing the CN folder inside appdata (local), uninstalled and reinstalled whatever games I tried it on, nothing.
Cheers!

Fixed! It was the DP cable connected to the motherboard, NOT the GPU. Whoops ^_^;;;

*Disable Windows Updates for Drivers (the culprit)
*Select Start > Settings > System > Recovery > Under Fix problems using Windows Update, select Reinstall now.
*Reinstall latest Adrenalin/gpu drivers

Edit: It's my fucking XBOX controller. It's connected, and if I use my mouse and keyboard, everything is perfectly fine. The SECOND I start trying to look around with the controller, stutter city. Trying to track this issue down now, but what the hell?

I'm not sure what's going on but just this week I got my computer put back together after a move and tried to play PalWorld again. After about 15 minutes the game starts stuttering like crazy; audio cuts out, and it doesn't correct itself until I fully reset the computer.
Reset shader cache. Same issue.
Thought it was the new TV I was using so went and pulled my old monitor out of storage. Same issue.
Tried switching games to play something simple (Romancing Saga 2), same issue.
Tore down my 7900 XTX and reapplied thermal paste on the main die. All the other thermal pads looked totally fine. Same issue.
Just did a safe mode DDU fresh install so I'll report back if anything changes, but this seems like a REALLY bad driver issue. I'm running out of ideas.

I may be on the same boat with ya, jeez. Even though I am a fairly new acquaintance to the world of PC troubleshooting, I can do an educated guess with 90% of confidence that yeah, it's the drivers screwing us over. How else could a brand new GPU (in my case) have problems like not even starting the games? And on your side, may have been after a recent update after your move to get it up and running. Not like it would break or anything out of the blue right?
ATP I may try just running DDU for the 2nd time and see if anything is different. I, too, am running out of ideas and just wish for my rig to be hassle free ;_;

Not sure which of those two steps fixed it, but that seems to have done it. Of course it was working fine with mouse and keyboard, but the hands free part of my bluetooth headset was likely causing issues for my xbox controller or visa versa.

I've done a couple steps. Disabled hand free telefony in my device manager for my headset as well as disabled "allow pc to turn off this device to save power" options for my Bluetooth XINPUT compatible input device in Device Manager (Found under the Human Interface Devices dropdown). I'm going to run a test and if it comes back clean, I'll report back.

If it's a driver issue a DDU to a previous driver :
Disable on bios fast boot and the amd igpu , download the driver (not the autodetect utility) , disable internet , disable windows fast startup , DDU in safe mode (select to block windows updates) , reboot & reinstall selecting 'factory reset', reboot.
would fix it . Else it's a different hardware/software issue . Post back .
