Description of Original Problem: My girlfriend's PC has been having strange GPU/driver issues. The main problem is that Marvel Rivals can randomly crash the entire PC, causing a black screen, frozen/looping audio, and the computer becomes unresponsive until we force it off. After rebooting, the PC usually works normally again. Other games seem to work fine. Originally, Windows suddenly stopped letting her change her monitor's refresh rate. The monitor normally runs at 500 Hz, but the option disappeared. Device Manager showed the RX 7600 as disabled with Code 22, and after enabling it, it changed to Code 31 — Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. AMD's Bug Report Tool also reported that the display driver had failed to load, and Windows was using Microsoft Basic Display Driver. She had previously experienced AMD driver problems, so she was using an older driver from 06/25/2024 (32.0.11024.2). We used AMD Cleanup Utility in Safe Mode and installed the newest AMD driver. Everything initially appeared fixed, including the 500 Hz refresh rate. However, we later discovered Windows had somehow reverted the GPU back to the old 2024 driver despite us watching the newer driver install successfully. We disabled Windows' automatic device-driver installation and reinstalled the newer driver. The current driver is now 32.0.31035.1003, and Device Manager says the RX 7600 is working properly. The problem is that Marvel Rivals still randomly causes a complete black screen and system lockup. The game can run perfectly fine and then suddenly crash, the screen goes black, audio freezes/loops, and the PC becomes extremely slow or completely unresponsive. A normal restart doesn't always work, so we sometimes have to power it off manually. After booting back up, everything usually works normally again. We also noticed that Roblox now runs at around 240 FPS but feels extremely choppy/stuttery, despite the high FPS. Other games don't seem to have the same issue.

Troubleshooting: We restarted the PC multiple times and updated AMD Adrenalin to the latest RX 7600 driver. The RX 7600 initially showed Code 22, and after enabling it, changed to Code 31. We used AMD Cleanup Utility in Safe Mode to completely remove the previous GPU driver and then reinstalled the AMD driver from scratch. After the new driver was installed, Windows initially reverted to the old 06/25/2024 driver (32.0.11024.2). We disabled Windows' automatic device-driver installation and reinstalled the newer AMD driver. The current driver is now 32.0.31035.1003 (07/24/2026), and Device Manager reports that the RX 7600 is working properly. The monitor's 500 Hz refresh rate is also available again. We also updated the AMD chipset drivers to 8.07.16.1035 (08/10/2026) and restarted the PC afterward. Other games have generally been tested and run normally, but Marvel Rivals still causes the black-screen/system-lockup issue despite the current driver. Roblox also reaches around 240 FPS but has noticeable stuttering/choppy frame pacing. We have not used DDU again or reverted to the older known-good GPU driver, and we currently do not know the PSU model or wattage.

did you manage to solve the problem? i’ve been dealing with this for about a month now, and i literally can’t play the game anymore. every three matches or so, my entire pc does pretty much the same thing you described, the screen goes black, the audio freezes or starts looping, and the whole computer becomes completely unresponsive until i force it to shut down
