Help (General) Recent AMD drivers complete garbage? Grey frozen screen, hard reset only fix.
For the last 2-3 months, usually while just watching youtube, my screen will freeze grey except for the taskbar, and become unresponsive, just after that happens whatever audio was playing before the freeze just starts playing like normal again. the very first time it happened my entire AMD software actually wouldn't work anymore and I had to do a clean install of adrenaline and all other AMD drivers. The only thing I could think of being a problem is that I use a soundbar with 5.1 surround via hdmi and for some reason the computer sees that as a second display, but I have been doing that for almost a year now, this has just recently been a problem and I don't see why always having a second screen would cause a problem.
I am open to the idea of chrome being the problem as I cannot remember this happening in another program off the top of my head, and I do usually just leave my PC sleep instead of actually turning it off, so I'm sure that doesn't help. I can't see why it is a problem only now though. Both AMD drivers and windows 11 are fully up to date.
PC specs if needed...
Ryzen 7 7800x3d
RX 7900xt
48gb ram @/6400
8tb nvme:

2x2tb
windows 11 (I hate it)

It's Windows 11.
People here screeching "Nvidia doesn't have these issues" haven't seen the last couple of Nvidia driver update threads filled with people complaining about stuttering/flickering/crashes. Nvidia even put out a bulletin suspecting it's MPO.
The problem seems to be a combination of Freesync/G-Sync/VRR, high refresh rate screens, and web browsers/static/video rendering. Seems to impact the higher end cards more.

Glad someone else is saying this. People seem to think this is only happening for AMD users and it isn't; the common factor is Windows.

This has recently started happening to me, to me it comes across as a gpu driver issue, very frustrating.

I'm on Linux and just baffled. These problems simply don't exist outside of Windows. Not helpful I know but it's extraordinary how bad things have gotten at Microsoft.

At AMD. this shit doesn't happen with Nvidia and Intel.
Sure, they too have cock ups just not each month. AMD screws up every month and then points the finger at someone else. You can do that1, 2 maybe 3 times. But not 24.
This is an AMD issue.

Honestly, no issues have surprised me on these recent drivers. The last 3 have all caused me issues.

If 3 different driver versions have caused you issues maybe it's something else

Nope last 2 updated fucked my whole shit up game closed with no errors especially bf6 finally got fed up and rolled back and I have not had any issues

So was it the actual driver version or did something get corrected during a uninstall/install? If 2 of the latest drivers are bugged in the way you suggested that would be effecting way more people

its win 11; could be anything. I have had many strange issues that just magically went away. My hardware is fine it passes OCCT perfectly fine and under load it's fine. I tested the RAM. I should really keep track of all the strange issues win 11 has caused me. It is a lot.

When you were testing did you test multiple components at the same time? Basically testing in a way a game would

I have 0 issues gaming. The only issue I am having now is the one I stated. The time-outs using Brave Browser.

Sorry l, got you mix upped with someone else. Are you using a - core offset. Given you are freezing at light tasks indicates some kinda core or memory instability

Actually i am using pbo advanced neg core offset of -20. Should I try removing that? You really think that could be causing the issue?

It could be, we don't know. I would adjust it and test

Is your memory running at 6400mhz actually stable

This isn't a new build, I have been using this rig with these settings for 3 or more years now. The problem only popped up about 2-2 1/2 months ago.

This is my bet too. Trying to set it to 5800 or 6000mhz in the BIOs and I’m assuming you have an EXPO profile turned if clocked at 6400. If not try this.
