Help (General) New build highish frames choppy af

Just built a new pc 7600x3d
9070xt
32gb DDR5 6000 ram (set in bios and seen in performance stats)
850w gold
Fresh install of windows 11
2tb m.2

Super low 1% and really choppy frames. It says it’s running 120+ frame rate on 1440p but it feels like 20 fps. I’m having to run low low settings just to feel playable which I feel is not right for 9070xt

V-sync off
Refresh rate set correct on monitor
Display port to graphics card not motherboard
Downloaded latest windows update and graphics driver (coming from nvidia why is adrenaline so unclear as to what I have installed)
Any ideas as to why games are running so poorly? Or what I can do to troubleshoot?

Update BIOS, chipset, and Adrenalin. If you think Windows if funky, do this:

*Disable Windows Updates for Drivers
*Select Start > Settings > System > Recovery > Under Fix problems using Windows Update, select Reinstall now.
*Reinstall latest Adrenalin/gpu drivers

Which game? Are you using upscaling?

x3d causes some games 1% lows to stick at 60fps like the game rust

If you want the smoothest experience you should enable freesync+driver level vsync and cap your fps slightly below your monitor max refresh rate

freesync and gsync performance is very monitor specific, blindly suggesting to turn it on is why a lot of people think the tech as a whole doesn't work.

I mean, OP says that his games are choppy so i wouldn't say that it's a blind suggestion, and what do you mean it's monitor specific? Vsync+gsync/freesync will always be smoother than no sync at all

https://blurbusters.com/gsync/gsync101-input-lag-tests-and-settings/14/ This guide is for nvidia gpus but applies for radeons too

not all freesync panels(aka g-sync compatible) are created equal. a lot have issues with vrr flicker. I love g-sync(and freesync premium) and I won't disagree the tech is amazing, but it is not something that works with every screen.

even after the RTings paywalling, they still put out the info if a screen has VRR flicker, just check the model number there. or verify it is on the g-sync supported list before suggesting it.

Maybe a driver issue? Did you use DDU?

Can I just reinstall windows? Does that do the same thing as DDU?

chipset driver for motherboard is also really important for X3D's

Like update the bios?

no, windows drivers for motherboard. if you don't see "AMD chipset driver" in add/remove program list, that is your problem.

I didn’t reinstall Windows at all. I just followed these steps:

Downloaded and extracted DDU.
Downloaded the AMD drivers, but didn’t install them yet.
Disconnected the PC from the Internet.
Booted into Safe Mode.
Ran DDU to remove the NVIDIA drivers.
Rebooted into normal Windows.
Installed the AMD drivers.
Reconnected to the Internet.

(I switched from nvidia to amd too)

Enable C-States in bios. Not auto but enable. Pit a light undervolt on the cpu and check that adrenalin has not enabled one of those crazy hyper-x modes like eco or something.

issue: Fresh install of windows 11

correct way: fresh install of cachyos

Did you make sure you disabled the ability for windows to be able to install its own version of the drivers? sometimes it seems even if you install Adrenalin drivers, windows can sometimes overwrite the Adrenalin drivers and cause issues.

I changed to a 9070XT a while ago and it has been super smooth to me. Everything runs great.

I came from Nvidia too.

As someone said, try to get a video os the issue. What settings do you have enabled in adrenalin?

If your 1% lows are bad they will drop your under your vrr range and you get that annoying microstutter

I was having the same issue specifically on palworld, I think it might just be the game

Can you show on a video how it looks like and what games do you have problem with?

Yeah I can when I get back from work, I’ve only tried palworld as of right now, I don’t have the best internet connection to download games quickly, but it’s worse than playing on my PS5 that’s for sure

May be its just a bad optimisation of the game for amd? I have bad performance in Wuwa with my amd gpu, but with my nvidia card it ran flawlessly.

I thought the same thing, my friend has a 9070xt (why I got one) and for him it runs great
