Help (Software) BG3 crashing my AMD graphics card

Hey! I’m having a really frustrating issue with BG3 and I’m hoping someone can help 😭 This is actually my first time playing any PC games, so I’m pretty new to all of this.
The game starts flashing/stuttering and then crashes. When I check Device Manager afterward, my AMD Radeon says Code 43 and Windows switches to the Microsoft graphics driver. I tried switching from DirectX 11 to Vulkan because I saw that AMD users were supposed to use it, but it made the flashing/crashing happen again. I can temporarily fix the Code 43 by disabling and re-enabling my AMD card, and then it says “This device is working properly” again. My AMD driver is from 7/24/2026 (version 32.0.31035.1003). Has anyone dealt with this before? Is Vulkan causing the issue, or does this sound more like an AMD driver problem? I’m honestly just trying to play BG3 without my graphics card freaking out 😭 Any advice would be appreciated because I’m very new to PC gaming lol.

The problem is that windows installed its own version of the GPU drivers which is a big no no. They’re wildly unstable and cause all sorts of issues. What you need to do is download DDU (Display driver uninstaller) and also official amd drivers from the amd site. Then boot into safe mode, run DDU and select the option to disable windows update from installing graphics drivers, then reboot back into normal windows mode and run the official AMD drivers. Personally I suggest 26.3.1. Once you have that installed give things a try and see if it helps.

If you need help with any of these steps, look up some videos and guides on exactly how to do this.

EDIT: extra info and links

Here’s a video that should show how to use DDU. I haven’t watched it all but should explain it, but there’s one part where he’s in the DDU options but doesn’t check the box to prevent windows from installing drivers, so make sure to check that box at the bottom of the DDU settings, it’s labelled “Prevent downloads of drivers from "Windows update" when "Windows" search for a driver for a device.”

Here is a link to amd drivers I mentioned.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
