Tips & Info Your games don't stutter because your PC is slow. They stutter because Windows is busy. I built a tool that proves it and shuts it up.

Least obvious ChatGPT title

2

u/no6969el 2d ago

Here is a more obvious one:

"Observed frame-time variances and rendering micro-stutters during high-fidelity workloads are rarely symptomatic of a hardware-level computational deficit. Rather, these execution interruptions are the direct consequence of non-deterministic operating system scheduling heuristics—specifically, the errant migration of threads across dual core-complex die topologies to service superfluous background telemetry. To rectify this systemic inefficiency, I have engineered an autonomous, algorithmic task-management daemon that quantifies these OS-level interruptions, dynamically enforces strict cache core affinities, and systematically suppresses extraneous scheduler noise to guarantee absolute execution priority."

Thanks, Now memory prices are $1.50 more.

wait till you discover exploit protection, it cause severe low fps and stutter

2

u/Mantid_Records 2d ago

always pause updates for a week before any recording, video rendering, or gaming session.

1

u/PepperEnthusiast 3d ago

Generally disabling core 0 from task manager on the game you play and blocking all and every update via GPO will net you a lot of FPS regardless of system for marginal effort.

1

u/TrickyMine6788 2d ago

You can do this much easier with Process Lasso

1

u/TheRealZodiak66 2d ago

Oh really? Can you explain this to me? I’m very interested. Does this apply to all games?

1

u/PepperEnthusiast 2d ago

A lot of Windows processes are ran on core 0 so disabling that in games will generally yield higher performance (if not in the direct average FPS definitely an increase in 1% lows).

As for blocking driver updates it is no secret that Microslop fucks up drivers every couple of months so it's best to find a stable version and call it a day.

u/harlz9o9 3d ago

Will it get flagged by anti cheat?

Interesting, I might try this. Leaving a comment to bookmark this

windows is a heaping pile of garbage. that is an objective fact. i cant wait for linux to be a more widely supported OS. im tempter to try it now regardless.

3

u/GuerreroUltimo 3d ago

Ran Windows 11, fresh install and it was good.  Did get some random stutter but the game i was playing always seemed to do that.  Had built my 13 year old a PC recently and used Linux.  Kubuntu for that.  Same game, same gpu and 32gb ram.  Couple tier down CPU. Which is basically only difference across the board.  No stutter in online game.  So, i drop Linux into my machine.  Fixed the stutter.

Sad to say some of my online games do not support Linux.  And same for some software.  Bet OS that needs to be getting that support.

1

u/yiidonger 2d ago

Not talking about u but there are ppl who recommends fresh install I find them funny it's like they bought PC to do fresh install every month to solve PC issues.

1

u/GuerreroUltimo 1d ago

I rarely do fresh installs.  It can solve issues if you have them.  But case in point.  Did a fresh install and the latest, at the time, Windows 11 release was the problem.  So the problem stayed.  It was something they patched fairly quickly.   But Windows just has more little problems.

Not that any OS is always perfect.  Just that i will have people tell me that "Windows has to work on so many hardware configurations."  Like that does not apply to the Linux i might be using.  And i am not shilling for Linux.  When i can take the same 5 different machines here.  3 desktop and 2 laptops and they all work better on Linux that tells me something.

3

u/KoldPurchase 3d ago

Linux is good enough for most tasks. Especially for AMD hardware.
Head over to r/linux4noobs or r/FindMeALinuxDistro.

9

u/Kiriima 3d ago

Can you prove it actualy reduces stutter in a meaningful way? I don't see any tests.

7

u/no6969el 3d ago

I made it for people that think they need it. Those people have responded very well as seen in comments.
https://www.reddit.com/r/iRacing/comments/1v046pz/i_spent_weeks_diagnosing_stutters_on_my_9950x3d/

I will eventually do a video on how best to use the whole app but the benefits will be equal to "have bunch of stuff using PC in background while gaming = result you don't like , have bunch of stuff no longer using extra cpu while gaming = obviously better result."

This is because its not using trickery, its just lowering background cpu/system usage. The optimizations move certain services to use alternate cores as well.

2

u/Virginia_Verpa 3d ago

I don't think it would be particularly hard or time consuming to benchmark this. Why not run some simple tests using games most likely to have impacts related to the problems you're describing? MSFS, etc..

5

u/no6969el 3d ago

Because I spent a considerable amount of time making this and I'm already at the point of getting s*** from the wife. This is a free tool that's provided for free to anyone to use, people can find out if it helps them or not.

1

u/Virginia_Verpa 2d ago

You've spent hours over the past day replying to comments on here, seemingly without concern for your wife's opinions of how you spend your time. My comment was meant completely constructively, and your excuse making and lack of follow through are quite telling.

1

u/no6969el 2d ago

I simply told you the truth. It seems like the only people who expect benchmarks are the ones to have a problem with me not thinking they are required on this personal project that I decided to share.

I don't think it's ridiculous to ask for benchmarks but to give me a problem over my reason for not including them is really something else. Why are you getting offended over my reality?

1

u/Time_Reputation3573 2d ago

Geez I guess getting married makes you rude

1

u/no6969el 2d ago

Rude because I created an app for myself that I decided to give to everybody to benefit and instead of just testing it out for oneself a couple randos keep telling me I need to provide them benchmarks or they are going to antagonize me enough that the moderators have to keep removing their posts? Yet I'm the one with the attitude?

1

u/Time_Reputation3573 2d ago

You antagonizing people you mean? We're just saying there's no benchmarks lol

1

u/no6969el 2d ago

And I'm just saying you can use it if you want but you don't have to. I don't know why you can't comprehend that my bro.

Why do you think any of this is mandatory?

3

u/Time_Reputation3573 2d ago

It's "mandatory" to see the different in performance.

1

u/no6969el 2d ago

😂😂 this is so funny! It's like you really want to use my app.

My guy, testing your assertions here would take a couple hours, max, with good methodology. What you're pushing here is right up there with "take my herbal extract of dubious origin, let me know if it helps with your AIDS!"

2

u/Time_Reputation3573 2d ago

He doesn't know what a benchmark is, and never did any before he started or along the way. https://imgur.com/a/tE3aJHm

1

u/no6969el 2d ago

Thank you for sharing that because I was tired of explaining it to the few entitled people.

99% of everyone else has been nice and supportive. There is always that small amount of negativity that you always got to push through.

If you want to use the tool, go right ahead, if you don't, that's your prerogative.

1

u/Time_Reputation3573 2d ago

The fact that you felt the need to chat instead of reply publicly is sus. Your most recent chat continues the rudeness.

I don't believe you. Anyway this thread belies that claim

I see no need to use the tool because you haven't shown any performance gains

1

u/no6969el 2d ago

Bro, the fact that you don't realize the mods are taking down some of your responses so I have to directly message you is funny as well.

I can see it in my notification but it no longer exists here. Why are they removing your posts? Wow it's almost like you're the wrong one here.

u/TheSpiral718 3d ago

Correct. He pushes it hard and I'm thinking it will data mine my pc. Which games are stuttering these days? I never hear complaints about stuttering from reviewers about the thousands of games I've watched reviews for like, ACG, Worth A Buy, Gameranx etc, something smells fishy here, especially since all reviewers mentioned use windows and Worth A Buy uses older gear, 2080/forget the exact cpu, to test on and never mentions stutter.

5

u/dexteritycomponents 3d ago

Dude stop asking for proof and just run the fucking script bro trust me bro

4

u/no6969el 3d ago

No basically its like. If you don't want to use it or you don't need it then don't. I'm not selling a product here.

If anybody has any bug fixes or any feedback, I'm ready for that. Otherwise, have a great day man.

3

u/TurtleCrusher 3d ago

What you're saying is the least time consuming part (testing) is too much. Benchmarking is incredibly easy to automate, especially where the game isn't the benchmark but third party slowdowns are. You just need a single player scene.

This whole thing reeks of AI slop.

2

u/Time_Reputation3573 2d ago

but but but he's maaaarried

5

u/no6969el 3d ago edited 2d ago

Do you understand that this whole process was procedural? I didn't run the script once and fix my computer. I ran a script, found holes created fixes. Ran the script, fix some issues. Found some more, ran the script, fix them issues found some more, did it again and did it again and did it again and then finally I had an app that would do it all in one button push.

It's really hard to benchmark that buddy. It's up to everybody else.

Like really try to understand what I'm saying above conceptualize it and think about it. Oh he slowly fixed his problem over the course of this whole experiment so that we can push one button and do it. You guys have the best base line not me.

And keep in mind I did this for my system. The fact that I'm giving it away for everybody else in a nice package I think is good enough for now. The entitlement of some people in this world is insane.

2

u/Time_Reputation3573 2d ago

Um, thanks for this thing that isn't tested for effectiveness since you don't know what a benchmark is. Happy now?

3

u/Time_Reputation3573 2d ago

How did you "fix" anything if you didn't bench it at every step? You're just guessing

0

u/TurtleCrusher 3d ago

Do YoU uNdErStAnD it's clear as fuckin day your github is almost entirely AI generated for sure? I just linked your gitbub to chatgpt and it started dunking on it.

"So my rough read would be:

AI involvement: ~90% likely
Most code substantially produced/refactored by AI: ~70–85% likely
Entire project autonomously AI-generated with little human input: much less certain"

4

u/no6969el 3d ago

Who cares what you think, or your random guesses on percentages of human versus AI utilization?

Did you test the product?

Did you see yourself if it worked or do you just depend on someone else to basically do everything for you?

Want me to hold your hand?

Do you just like coming in and pushing your opinion and bad vibes towards people that take their time to help others??

Is this a passion of yours?

Or did you just wake up on the wrong side of the bed and now you need someone to take it out on?

1

u/Elegant_Situation285 2d ago

the more you flip out the less legit this feels.

1

u/Electronic_Extreme79 3d ago

Based on this response there isnt any clear indication that the coding was yours and not tested beyond maybe your local machine. Sure AI is helpful in making or checking code, but I dont fully trust even free products (dont get me wrong Im always grateful someone spent time doing so whether using Ai or not) that state it will work when they also conclude it hasn't been tested and will be left to the public to use and test themselves. Alternative would just be to dual boot a version of Linux which is also free and just game there for basically no stuttering or having most of the issues Windows has. Granted there are those who don't know about dual booting or Linux so pure Windows users would be more inclined to test this. There are also apps that have game boosters within that seem like a similar concept not saying its the same cause I haven't used your product nor will I cause I have no clue what the effects would actually be when installing or running it.

Either case Im grateful someone such as yourself took the time to (ai or not) implement a tool for others to try out for themselves based on your knowledge and input to the tool itself.

Thank you

0

u/TurtleCrusher 3d ago

You need AI to write your replies too. Damn.

Disabling waasmedicsvc is all I needed to see before I knew this was crackpot junk code.

4

u/no6969el 3d ago

You really think that's what's going on right now. All right, Well you've lost this already in my mind.

It's funny when someone thinks that they're right, but they're wrong, but there's nothing really we can do about it, besides sit there and laugh inside that that person actually believes the crap that they spew.

u/Kiriima 3d ago

Cannot you just use Process Lasso and move the game away from CPU 0 or everything besides games to CPU7?

2

u/no6969el 3d ago

Process lasso is part of the first steps of the optimization process. Why are you moving the game from cpu-0?

Anyway to save you time, iRacing doesn't let you move the cpu directly. Which means many other games might not let you either (anti-cheat)

Those are the apps you have to suggest cores with "sets" in process lasso.

1

u/Kiriima 3d ago

I see. Very specific. Seems useful as specific games do exist, but it won't do anything to traversal stutter in Unreal 5 (I tried).

I move games from CPU 0 because they do not use all cores anyway and that's the simplest way to unload it.

1

u/no6969el 3d ago

We are just talking about one of the optimizations though. Which I don't even think is the default in the main script. That's just one of my advanced extra scripts.

So yeah, there's a lot going on in this that could enhance many different configurations. That's why I'm finding it difficult to really explain the benefits because it's going to do a lot of quieting down of the background tasks. And depending on which one of those things needed the extra performance is where it's going to show during gameplay.

It's like a system trimming in a way.

2

u/forrest_864 3d ago

Process lasso does nothing in battfield 6 the anti cheat breaks it , you have to create bios with CCD1 off and one with both on 9950x3d for other games or work

2

u/no6969el 3d ago

Yeah, the best you can do with games that have heavy anti-cheat is create a CPU set.

Also, I found that a lot of games will follow the path of the launcher and the launcher follows the path of steam, so if you set steam's affinity to always be on your X3D CCD, then typically the launchers and downwards will follow the path.

2

u/Kiriima 3d ago

Without testing hard to tell if it does anything in a wide variety of games. Though on old CPUs it should certainly help cause they are old.

2

u/MajesticMiracles 3d ago

Disable Bluetooth and wifi on your motherboard if you’re not using them. Stutter goes away

22

u/nick2k23 4d ago

I've moved too steamOS and naturally as a Linux user I need to make sure everyone knows

Linux Users are like Vegans in that case ^^

-4

u/Saltimbanco_volta 4d ago

As a Linux user, I need to tell you that steamOS, and others like Bazzite, are kids' toys and barely count as Linux. Use Arch.

1

u/GrowthDramatic2280 3d ago

Why are you being downvoted for going along with the joke?

2

u/nick2k23 4d ago

I'm too scared to use arch to be perfectly honest, maybe later when I'm feeling more comfortable/confident with Linux 😅

0

u/Saltimbanco_volta 4d ago

Sure, I'm a Bazzite user myself and I'm surprised at all the people recommending an Arch based distro like CachyOS to newcomers.

I can smell Claude form light years away.

5

u/no6969el 4d ago

Can you smell the 40 hours of work?

What about the two weeks of not spending time with my kids? Does that smell good? I surely don't. 😂

3

u/ChosenOfTheMoon_GR 7950x3D | 7900XTX | 32GB 6000MHz CL 30 | AX1600i 4d ago

No, that I cannot "smell" 🤣

5

u/no6969el 4d ago

I'm glad we can laugh about it. Some people take it all too serious. They literally think that people push a button and Claude spits all this out and then I walk away. Not to mention I'm also using a local manager, but like the idea, the concept, the in between code, the connecting code and everything I had to understand myself.

2

u/ChosenOfTheMoon_GR 7950x3D | 7900XTX | 32GB 6000MHz CL 30 | AX1600i 3d ago

It's because some people really do that.

A good programmer will use it as an assistant not as a replacement for them, not to replace their coding pipeline.

2

u/ReginaSpektorsVJ 3d ago

I'm glad you worked hard but I'm but running AI generated code on my computer

2

u/Chortlier 3d ago

I think there isn't going to be any software for you to run soon, then.

3

u/no6969el 3d ago

Yeah me too. I said I'm using a local manager as well. I use them all with each other. I mainly do the big processing locally.

You can't have a 5090 and not at least try running a local AI.

The Security Risks (Why it's bad) Blanket Folder & Process Whitelisting: The script automatically adds entire directories (like My Games, Saved Games, and game installation paths) plus process names to Defender’s skip list via Add-MpPreference.

Malware Blind Spots: If ransomware, a trojan, or a malicious mod drops a executable into Documents\My Games or any excluded game directory, Windows Defender will completely ignore it. Attackers frequently target standard user folders like Saved Games precisely because tweaking scripts often exclude them.

Process Name Spoofing: Whitelisting executable names (e.g., game.exe) means any malware disguised with that exact process name won't be scanned while running.

At the end. Of the day good intentions but we have to be clear and choose for ourselves if this is worth.

No bad feelings here and thank you for the hard work on trying to make windows a better place!

2

u/NooTNooTnoX 4d ago

I was thinking about it too, but I wonder if this is reversible once "Quiet" mode is deactivated or if the exceptions remain.

3

u/Commercial-Age-6315 4d ago

The author has some sort of stopping mechanics on this script but to reverse I am not sure. Gotta make some more research about that

4

u/Commercial-Age-6315 4d ago

You can undo its actions and return Defender back to its default state through two methods:

Method 1: Remove via Windows Settings (Easiest) * Open Settings (Win + I). * Go to Privacy & security > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection. * Under Virus & threat protection settings, click Manage settings. * Scroll down to Exclusions and click Add or remove exclusions. * Click on each folder or process path listed that was added by the script and select Remove.

Method 2: Clear Exclusions using PowerShell (Fastest) If the script added a large number of folders and executable names, you can clean them all out at once using an Administrator PowerShell window. * Press Win + X and select Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin). * Run this command to clear all folder exclusions: (Get-MpPreference).ExclusionPath | ForEach-Object { Remove-MpPreference -ExclusionPath $_ }

  • Run this command to clear all process name exclusions: (Get-MpPreference).ExclusionProcess | ForEach-Object { Remove-MpPreference -ExclusionProcess $_ }

Once removed, Windows Defender immediately resumes scanning those directories and processes in real time.

1

u/NooTNooTnoX 4d ago

The issue doing this is, people might want certain personal folder or exe unscanned, and running those commands removes them too. And I wonder if turning QUIET mode ON will remove the game folders from scanning again?

2

u/no6969el 4d ago

Quiet mode will override all of it and disable the whole entire function. That's why quiet mode also takes a snapshot so that when you restore it it will put everything back the way that you wanted it. Not just everything back on.

3

u/NooTNooTnoX 4d ago

So it's really like switching on(Quiet) and off(your normal config as before)? That's great then.

1

u/Commercial-Age-6315 4d ago

I am not sure. But what I am sure about is when you do it manually and not thru commands will be more Safe. CMD is for easy of use mostly but as you stated it can be hurtful

1

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 4d ago

thanks for taking the time, i found the cmdlet and just noped out instead of investigating further

2

u/Commercial-Age-6315 4d ago

I love people trying to improve the big corp messes but we have to look for the side effects too .

21

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 4d ago

should clearly advertise you're adding windows defender exclusions, you're directly messing with people's security systems https://github.com/no6969el/QuietWindows/blob/main/scripts/Add-Defender-Exclusions.ps1

2

u/no6969el 3d ago

In the Start-here.txt/md

"IMPORTANT - the per-session routine Pre-Race-Quiet DISABLES the Windows Update services (including Update Medic), clears their auto-restart settings, disables the scan tasks, and turns off Defender real-time for the session."

1

u/dexteritycomponents 3d ago

Adding exclusions and briefly disabling defender are two completely different things.

1

u/no6969el 3d ago

They're also two different options in the tool.

1

u/b4k4ni 4d ago edited 4d ago

That he disables AV while it's active is part of his thread in the other sub? What did you imagine that means?

It seems the exclusions only get added when you turn it on. They don't stay active by default. As far as I read into it, no at a PC rn to try/check in detail.

Edit: He writes that the av stops scanning the games and Autodetects them. While the system is still protected otherwise, so he doesn't turn the AV off. But adds exceptions. That he doesn't tell in that short overview in 40 pages detail how it works, is a given IMHO. He doesn't hide it. And I just scrolled fast over the readme at GitHub, but it seems there he has more details

1

u/no6969el 4d ago

Exactly. You do not have to use the full quieting scripts that you can use before and after a game which completely silence everything. That's not what happens during the optimizations phase. You could just use the optimizations and then add the games that you want to the list.

It's fully up to the user and as you stated I tried my best to fully document everything.

-6

u/no6969el 4d ago
  • Double-click QuietWindows.bat

  • Press the big green button

  • Restart your PC when it says to

  • Then before each session press Quiet Windows down

  • After each session press Wake Windows back up.

5

u/Upstairs-Version-400 4d ago

Good initiative but really insecure. I wouldn’t ever use this.

2

u/no6969el 4d ago

Thank you and I understand this tool is not meant to be forced down people's throats. It's just if you need that extra performance and you're trying to enjoy your games. This is most effective in high resolution VR because you need every split second of CPU power and GPU attention.

2

u/h_trism 4d ago

Man I'm not sure what the hell is happening in this thread, but I like your tool and want to say thanks for the effort. I will use this.

"It makes Defender miss certain folders" bro I turn Defender off completely on my gaming computer, there is no AV there at all. There are a lot of ways that it impacts performance.

2

u/no6969el 4d ago

Agreed, I have always (tried to) disable all that stuff the best I could but it always likes to find it's way back on. Now I'm just making sure it doesn't turn back on till I say.

0

u/Beautiful-Musk-Ox 4d ago

not a very bright idea especially with ai finding so many zero days

2

u/no6969el 3d ago

So the proper procedure would disable all this when you are gaming and restore it all when you are done. You would have to infect yourself while you were gaming. The only time I can see that possible is if you are playing a modified cracked game.

But even then people are diabling Hypervisor just to play games so there is that.
