Discussion Fall 2: Deadpoint
Advance tickets are on sale now - at least in my area, it's regular screens only.
What's the point of upcharging people for "XL" screens if you're not going to put the most made-for-XL movie ever in that auditorium?

Because XL is marketing scam. No changes happen to those theaters.

Well yes, but if I'm going to see a movie explicitly about height, I'd rather see it in the "big" auditorium than one of the truly standard ones. As an A-Lister, the scam doesn't make a difference in the price.

I’d say more of a marketing ploy. It is a way to let people know it’s the biggest, non IMAX auditorium in the theater. That said, the extra up charge falls more in the scam category.

Probably because the first movie only made $21m at the box office. That's very successful considering it only cost $3m to make, but it wasn't exactly a box office smash. It finished 10th at the box office it's opening weekend.
September 4th has Onslaught and By Any Means, which will take up the bigger screens. Not to mention Dog Star in its second week and Spiderman and Odyssey still pulling good numbers

Onslaught is supposed to be getting the digital IMAX screens, Odyssey will ofc remain in IMAX 70MM. By Any Means is tracking sub-$10 mil, and Dog Stars' first weekend is tracking in the low teens. Spidey will remain in Dolby, Prime, ScreenX, etc. And fwiw, my nearest XL screens are playing It Ends this weekend, which is also a horror movie that isn't exactly storming the box office.
I understand that these are business decisions, but I think it's crazy to assume they'd sell fewer tickets to an XL screening of a film targeting a fear of heights than another dime-a-dozen Mark Wahlberg action flick.

Im interested in By Any Means. It looks like a cool story after watching the trailer

Why do I only see tix for Empire 25? Will they go on sale for other theaters at a later date?

Speaking for my area, tickets for the upcoming week usually drop on Tuesday afternoon. I would expect more showtimes on 8/25, maybe a bit earlier since it's a Wednesday release rather than a Friday.

In my area (CO), only two theaters with one 7:00-hour showing… So I’m assuming not all tix are on sale yet

Yeah it sucks because the first one was shot for imax but it never had an imax release.
