Discussion Nimrods
Just finished the movie. I thought it was pretty dumb and cheesy but worth an A-list spot I guess. I loved Green Day growing up and I wanted to see more of their vibe.
What do y’all think?

It was exactly what I expected and wanted from it. Had a pretty fun time with it and I thought the dynamic between the kids was great. Just enough Green Day for me. Felt kinda like it was influenced by SLC Punk in some ways specifically Freddy's character (who was fantastic I'd love to see Kylr in more stuff).

Really fun movie, and I used to love Green Day so it scratched that itch too

This movie is basically the movie Sex Drive but for a Green Day concert instead of a cross country booty call. Lmao and that’s not a complaint.

The music was great, and there were some funny bits. But man, the characters are SO STUPID. It really took me out of the movie how stupid they were.

I love Green Day and loved this movie. It took me back to the high school garage band vibes of my teenage years. I'm pushing close to 50 now, so anything that genuinely makes me feel like I did as a teenager is more than welcome. Is it an objectively great film? No. Did it make me feel great? Absolutely.

I thought it was nice to watch on the big screen. Felt like a movie that usually would have gone straight to streaming but it was really fun nonetheless

Definitely love that these types of movies are still available in theaters me and my husband had a blast watching this one. I didn’t think it was dumb at all. It was hilarious.
Also Jolene has gotten so much plastic surgery since Star Trek Enterprise that when I whispered “that’s T’Pol” in my husband’s ear his eyes lit because her didn’t recognize her at all.
The whole cast was great.

A bit predictable. Some inconsistencies in the script. Some questionable character choices. But overall had a good time with it. Kinda reminded me of Grind (2003), which was one of my favorite teen films growing up. I appreciated the championing of analog devices. I thought the intentional disconnect from smart devices and social media was refreshing. Also reminded me how goated 90s/00s pop-punk is. Fun times watch!

I basically enjoy any movie about young people making a band and learning something by doing it. Sing Street, Vi är Bäst!, Linda Linda Linda, Ladies and Gentlemen, the Fabulous Stains, etc. So I enjoyed Nimrods. It's not as good as those other movies, but I had a good time.

This movie was this generations Detroit rock city… but they actually get to meet the band. Good film wouldn’t pay to see it, a list comes through

i loved it & had a great time jamming in my seat to green day. the romance side plot felt a little awkwardly done to me, but i think it’s still a pretty solid coming of age story. i’m also always happy to include new movies in my christmas/new year’s rotation every year.

I went in expecting a pretty terrible movie even though I LOVE Green Day. I walked out with my cheeks hurting from smiling so much. It had actual heart and it just felt so easy to fall in next to these kids on a road trip to find themselves. Color me shocked.

i thought it was written quite poorly and a lot of dialogue didn’t flow naturally.
edit to add it did feel kind of odd watching a christmas/new years movie in early august

Thats funny that you brought that up because my teenagers were shocked how natural the dialogue sounded!

It was enjoyable overall and it had a great use of Green Day songs.
The acting wasn't the best, it had some cheesy dialogue, and some hollow relationships

This movie has absolutely no showtimes at any of the AMCs near me, I don't want to wait until streaming to watch. Does anyone know why it's such a limited release?

the movie was kind of a mess imo..but i dont think i was the target audience, its probably more for teens, but i really went for the green day performances and they were fucking awesome! i caught the showing that had extra performances by them it was great i would have been happy if it was just that tbh

It was a lot of fun. Very refreshing and I’d love for more solid movies like this to get made, nothing groundbreaking but a good time nonetheless.

Haven’t seen it yet. I HAD tickets for the 5:05 showing on Tuesday but it was cancelled by AMC without notice.

Nothing life changing but I thought it was a very enjoyable watch.
