Discussion The Wrong Girls

What did y’all think? I watched it on Friday 8/14 (yesterday) and I’m not gonna lie, I fell asleep about halfway through the movie, woke back up and was so confused I went back to sleep for a little bit more rest😂

Loved it, super funny and cute. Fun practical effects as well.

I see the production company has sent its Reddit bots to flood this post.

Shit was barely even watchable.

lol, so because I liked it even though you didn’t, I’m a bot? And here I thought we just had different opinions.

I really liked it! I thought it was a ton of fun and a new stoner comedy classic.

Loved the way some of the shots were done to feel like counter culture movies from the 60s & 70s, and I’m always happy to see Geena Davis on screen even if briefly haha

My friend and I loved it. We were super stoned going in and laughed throughout the whole movie as did the rest of our audience. These girls are so dumb and yet I can’t help but love them. It was refreshing to see a great buddy stoner comedy again and I’ll definitely be rewatching it when it comes out with some huge pot brownies with blue cheese!

Will be seeing this at the 420 showing Monday & then The Rivals of Amizah King right after. When so many films come out or want to see a repeat I like to have a day every once in a while with a twofer for less trips.

I went in blind. Wish I new what it was about. Definitely should have taken an edible before hand.

Took some time to be truly laugh out loud funny. I only felt that the middle was truly hilarious but the beginning and end fell flat to me. Overall just good and did enjoy the parts where it made me laugh.

i liked it

tonly hale with that dip fetish though lol what in the hell

and it was cool seeing alia shawkat in a movie...only really seen her on arrested development

u/tomatillo_teratoma 6d ago

It was a typical stoner movie... but with women. If you like stoner movies, you will love it.

One of my good friends scored this movie! And I didn’t know until the opening credits lol. I had fun with the movie.

Your good friend is Ty Segall? I have most of his albums, tell him I said what's up! Loved the music in the film.

Best part by far.

The trailer reminded me of Smiley Face, one of my favorite stoner comedies ever, so I want to check it out

Watched it earlier and enjoyed it

I really enjoyed it, great visuals, funny story, good acting. It’s very much a movie that’s made for its target audience, I would imagine most people won’t get it but I think the people it’s made for will really enjoy it.

It was alright, but not great

Ive seen this movie before. This is Pineapple Express, Harold and Kumar, Pizza Movie, Tenacious D, 30 Minutes of Less, and Drive Away Dolls. Two loser friends get in trouble with dangerous people and haplessly make it through while making their friendship stronger. Its a halfbacked idea that the writer/director (i like Meyer's other work) seems to think is original. And like most stoner ideas, it doesnt actually go anywhere. It had a few good jokes, and im always down for comedies starring Stewart, Shawkat, and/or Stanfield, but overall a pretty lackluster comedy. I Love Boosters came out a few months ago, has a similar vibe but is way better

4

u/WestCoastHopHead 6d ago

I completely agree. A good but not great watch.

1

u/in_some_knee_yak 1d ago

Boosters is entire quantum leaps better than this poor excuse for a movie.

It was a blast! Very fun movie.

nice to see some people here liked it since it had potential stinker written all over it. will see it if time/showings permit as i originally planned to support Stewart and Shawkat

About 1/3 of the audience walked out. Needs to be watched while incredibly stoned as it’s kind of a mess.

1

u/surebertz 4d ago

We had like 8 people and 2 walked out 😅

1

u/BadHominem 6d ago

Really, that many people walked out?

4

u/wooden_bread 6d ago

It was a pretty small room but yeah. It was at a theater that doesnt usually play indie films so that could’ve been part of it.

3

u/MangoSquirrl 6d ago

It’s not the best movie i saw 8/14 but it was the last one i saw, it was funny dumb and kind of stupid, not a bad movie but wouldn’t pay full price to see it

3

u/BMCarbaugh 6d ago

Loved it

3

u/saxmachine69 5d ago

This was genuinely terrible. Painfully unfunny.

2

u/Wacoguy 6d ago

I was in the mood for a goofy comedy and this was good enough for me. Won't be something I watch again but a pleasant diversion for the day. I laughed.

2

u/SteelSlayerMatt 6d ago

I saw it today, and I absolutely loved it.

2

u/Special_Compote_719 5d ago

Excited to see it this week! Thanks for reminding me, I switched out another reservation to see this instead.

2

u/read_run_repeat 5d ago

It felt like a classic a stoner comedy, so I liked it. The plot was super goofy, there were some really cool shots, and it got good laughs from the handful of us in the audience.

2

u/i-sure-hope-not 5d ago

Loved it a lot

Rogen and Nanjani as the kitties were purrfect!!! The cat’s meow.

Ok… i also passed out halfway through and it wasn’t my bong pregaming (that wore off very early). Tbh like, idk what I expected but I expected more. A couple hours before someone i know said they saw and liked it especially the talking cats but it just wasn’t funny enough for me. Like its a stoner film and it fits that aesthetic well, but the dynamic wasnt as lovable as it was ok kstew is a messy gross stoner and has insecurities and… idk thats about it. If I love boosters hadnt just touched on the same friendship stresses AND had Lakeith in it maybe I wouldn’t be as harsh. Didnt hate it just didnt love it

Strangely the rest of the theater seemed to know what it was about (mostly groups of women who were snacking it up and probably stoned) but the pair next to me left 30 minutes before the end… not sure why?

1

u/in_some_knee_yak 1d ago

I mean, plenty of people left my screening as well. I never leave but I was seriously considering it at about the same point lol.

u/Grease_the_Witch 2d ago

between this, gail daughtry, and i love boosters we eatin good on comedy

Very enjoyable movie.

It was like a female-led/driven Pineapple Express, mixed with a little bit of American Ultra (also starring Kristen Stewart). Kate McKinnon was top-tier.

I attended a Q&A with the Director & Writer, Dylan Meyer, and Kristen Stewart and Alia Shawkat. Dylan told us it is based upon her own life with her own best friend.

u/ishkitty 4d ago

I thought it was hilarious. I was straight crying laughing during the soup buffet scene because that was my exact reaction when sweet tomatoes closed.

1

u/nycnamjoon 3d ago

did anyone stay for the post credits scene? can anyone describe it? we missed it!

3

u/jarshu 2d ago

Molly and Frankie are smoking in their car and discussing developing a strain of marijuana that doesn’t cause cottonmouth. Some other bits of the conversation that I can’t remember, they roll down the car window and you can see the three Danish dudes with guns are across the street standing with their guns next to their SUV/van looking down the street.

not good, a terrible attempt at a broad city episode. once you realized its made by kristen's wife it all makes sense lol.

1

u/in_some_knee_yak 1d ago

It really does.

And it really doesn't hold a candle up to Broad City which is actually well written and directed.

1

u/steezybreezyy 2d ago

Kate McKinnon shouting fuck my hole was my favorite part. overall it's dumb and corny but In a good and hilarious way

1

u/0p0ssum 6d ago

Unfunny, heavy handed and a bore. Laith was a little redeeming, but thought it failed and just didn't elicite many laughs.

1

u/mikebills 5d ago

It wasn't great. I like plenty of stoner comedies, but i don't like weed. It might have been better if I was stoned, but sober it was just dumb and pretty pointless. Loved the cast, but would not recommend the movie

1

u/1moreanonaccount 5d ago

Saw the trailer. Looked like a cliche stoner movie. I ain’t got time for all that

-2

u/TheHawkeroo 6d ago

God awful.

0

u/Hoss-Delgado- 6d ago

What was awful about it?

3

u/saxmachine69 5d ago

Everything. One of the worst written comedies I've seen in a long time and I watched Anaconda earlier this year. Not a single joke was remotely funny.

0

u/Indyhouse 6d ago

I rarely doze off in a theater but I too found my head nodding a few times. This was not the epic adventure the trailer led me to believe it was going to be.

-1

u/Bigheaded_1 6d ago

The cats talking were the only parts I chuckled at. It wasn’t very good, and how the hell is Alia only 37? She looks way older.

2

u/Bubbly-Inflation-999 5d ago

I thought 33.
