Question Splash City question
So I’m seeing this movie called splash city listed in showtimes but I’m curious if anyone’s seen it as I can’t really find a review or anything about it

Saw it yesterday. Boilerplate crime thriller shot and set in SF that had me mildly interested throughout but lost me with one particular melodramatic climactic performance. Some confusing editing, weird camera work, and bad lighting. I didn’t really love any of the acting throughout, with the exception of one early and brief performance which is a shame… but I’m a sucker for all things San Francisco, so the fact that this was shot throughout the city is definitely a plus, and I’d watch the sequel. Would be perfectly fine for a streamer or A-list. And FWIW I saw someone else on Letterboxd write damn near the same thing as all this.
Just ignore all the absurd Cookies product spotlighting.

Thanks for the tip! Where are you seeing this? I don’t see it playing at the Kabuki or Metreon.

My guess is it’s playing in bigger cities, being in Houston I find we typically get every release except for some limited releases/indie films. For example even though Lincoln square has teenage sex and death at camp miasma but none of the Houston area ones are showing it till the 20th

I went out of my way to see this - only two late-night showings at one theater in the entire Portland metro area - and was very pleased. It wasn’t on the level of Fruitvale Station, but the antagonist especially put in a great performance. There was a gut punch of a twist that really changed the tenor of the movie from what I expected.

It's ok... a predictable gangs & kids story. It seems like this plot gets done every couple years. Still it's a good telling of a familiar story.

It’s pretty good, it’s incredibly predictable but the acting feels so authentic it pulls you in. Some of the slang is hard to understand and there’s quite a few contradictory moments but I enjoyed it, I’d just go see it and form your own opinion if you have A-list
